Summary

Now a DC Universe Animated Film!

Back in the eighties, THE NEW TEEN TITANS became DC's most popular title and a huge sales success。 The series reached its greatest heights with the Judas Contract storyline--a multipart epic that played on comics readers' expectations and offered shocking revelations and surprising twists at every turn。 From the retirement of Robin and Kid Flash, to the birth of Nightwing and the introduction of Jericho, to the ultimate betrayal of a Titan, "The Judas Contract" kept readers positively riveted during its initial run, and still has fans talking today。

THE JUDAS CONTRACT is written by fan-favorite author Marv Wolfman (NEW TEEN TITANS, RAVEN)。 Collects THE NEW TEEN TITANS #39 and 40, TALES OF THE TEEN TITANS #41-44 and ANNUAL #3。

With the way this is written (:/), you kind of have to elaborate on your own to figure out what led Tara to get mixed up with Deathstroke in the first place (if you care enough。 it's fair if you don't。 but "illegitimate daughter" and "human experimentation" are pretty juicy lines to draw from)。 Considering we only see her after Deathstroke started abusing her, I think every single one of her actions is understandable。Marv, you can't give me a rude obnoxious teen and not expect me to care her。 I With the way this is written (:/), you kind of have to elaborate on your own to figure out what led Tara to get mixed up with Deathstroke in the first place (if you care enough。 it's fair if you don't。 but "illegitimate daughter" and "human experimentation" are pretty juicy lines to draw from)。 Considering we only see her after Deathstroke started abusing her, I think every single one of her actions is understandable。Marv, you can't give me a rude obnoxious teen and not expect me to care her。 I do like this story in general (it makes a lot more sense having read the previous NTT issues)。 I love Joey, and I also love seeing baby Joey and Grant, so at least the Deathstroke backstory gave us that。 I give the version of Judas Contract that I've made in my mind after reading it 5 out of 5 stars。 What's written on the page is a 3 out of 5 stars。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Very middling。 A little baffling that this is considered an iconic run of 80s given how much better X-Men is, and the fact that Frank Miller and Alan Moore’s books were simply streets ahead in terms of quality at the same time。 And then given the high quality of post crisis comics- ya this both aged poorly very fast, and seems outdated compared to other leading comics of the early 80s。 While there are many pages of Perez art to ogle over, most are covered in Marv Wolfman’s overwrought prose that Very middling。 A little baffling that this is considered an iconic run of 80s given how much better X-Men is, and the fact that Frank Miller and Alan Moore’s books were simply streets ahead in terms of quality at the same time。 And then given the high quality of post crisis comics- ya this both aged poorly very fast, and seems outdated compared to other leading comics of the early 80s。 While there are many pages of Perez art to ogle over, most are covered in Marv Wolfman’s overwrought prose that does nothing but give me a headache。 The creators’ handling of Terra is also baffling- she only exists to be evil, and they repeatedly have characters or the narration explain that there is no explanation, she’s just a crazy evil 15 year old girl, as if anticipating the reader would not find that believable。 Nightwing is written like an author insert nice guy most of the time。 Starfire is really brainless and sexualized to the nth degree。 Gar and Terra’s voices are grating as all hell。 Terra’s relationship with Slade is gross and victim blame-y。 Teenage girl Donna’s relationship with that bland full on adult man is really weird。 I would say Marv can’t write women, but it seems he also can’t write men too。 Knowing under his pen Nightwing later gets sexually assaulted twice, and both times its played as light material, I’d say Marv Wolfman should be forbidden from writing any sexual relationship ever again。 And lastly, Jericho is shoehorned onto the team and easily has George Perez’s worst design ever。The high points were the eyes of Tara Markov issue where Marv pulled back and we just saw a day in the life of the Titans as they were watched by Terra and Slade, and the following issue where we see Slade’s attack on the Titans from the POV of Nightwing figuring out what has already happened (although this issue grinds to a halt once Jericho and his mom show up and start info dumping)。Anyways, RIP Terra, if I were her I’d have tried to kill these annoying twerps too 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Fue una historia demasiado interesante。 Vemos el crecimiento de dick, que deja su manto de robín para convertirse en nigthwing。 El final tan intenso。 Aunque me desagradaron muchos de los comentarios que hacía gar, se me hizo un personaje carismático。 En general es una buena historia, aveces se hace lenta, pero el final vale la pena

This is a fine book but it just hasn't aged well。 Maybe I'd enjoy it if I read this ten years ago and Beastboy's antics didn't make me want to unalive him。 This is a fine book but it just hasn't aged well。 Maybe I'd enjoy it if I read this ten years ago and Beastboy's antics didn't make me want to unalive him。 。。。more

Realmente Bof。 Mucho mucho mucho texto y diálogo que no aportan a la lectura。 Lo hacen denso y pesado sin real contenido。

There were technically two stories in here: The Judas Contract and an extended prologue involving the Titans taking on Brother Blood and his cult。 Despite being the end of a Titan Era, they worked well as a standalone story。I like them including the Brother Blood story for two reasons。 (1) it already shows Terra is planning on betraying them, which builds greater tension during the mission (especially seeing her raw power) and foreshadows the eventual plot of the Judas Contract and (2) it gives There were technically two stories in here: The Judas Contract and an extended prologue involving the Titans taking on Brother Blood and his cult。 Despite being the end of a Titan Era, they worked well as a standalone story。I like them including the Brother Blood story for two reasons。 (1) it already shows Terra is planning on betraying them, which builds greater tension during the mission (especially seeing her raw power) and foreshadows the eventual plot of the Judas Contract and (2) it gives a non-comic reader context via a "day in the life" scenario with the Titans。 But what about the quality of the story itself? It was okay。 It was a little hard to believe how easily Brother Blood was able to sway the public into thinking he was a good and kind religious leader。 His words worked (kinda) and the way he presented himself via actions was okay。。。 but that name。。。 and outfit。 When your dress-code screams 90s comic book villain, please change before the press release! Also Beast Boy came off as a bit of a perv in his flirting, so a lot of his humor was lost on me。 Luckily, the rest of the Titans (and sometimes villains) had plenty of one-liners to go around (heck yeah!)。 The plot itself was pretty basic, which was fine as we really only cared about the action/next story。 Plus it showed how the characters worked together。Now as for the actual Judas Contract; it was pretty awesome, but hard to talk about without spoilers。 I love how coldhearted Terra is here。 While many have hated her being evil, it was clearly the point from the get go and I appreciate how the writers stuck to their guns。 It was a little creepy how she and Deathstroke were a thing, but thankfully all that twisted love story was off screen。 It was also cool seeing the origin of Nightwing in all its 90s glory! I especially enjoyed his apartment fight/chase with Deathstroke。 Overall the action was pretty dated, but once you get past that, it was fun seeing how they used their powers to work together and solve problems。And I guess that sums up most of my thoughts on the Judas contract: It's dated。 If you hate or are less disposed towards older comics (like me), you'll probably need to read a few before you can truly appreciate this one。 But if you are familiar and/or okay with older comics, this was a pretty fun ride。 。。。more

The origins of Deathstroke, Nightwing and the Titans, good old fashioned criminal cults, betrayal, identity crises and non-stop action… An amazing young superhero tale masterfully told。

I've never seen a story that aged so badly。My biggest issues are how Terra, as a character, is built on misogynistic stereotypes (she's a swallow, back-stabbing, self centered, irredeemable, ungrateful and hysterical b*tch, that breaks the good guy's heart and goes for the bad-guy etc etc) , while the man that committed statutory rape with her is portrayed and a sympathetic guy that happened to be in a dark place and thus he gets away with no punishment, while she dies。 Oh, and the writers slut- I've never seen a story that aged so badly。My biggest issues are how Terra, as a character, is built on misogynistic stereotypes (she's a swallow, back-stabbing, self centered, irredeemable, ungrateful and hysterical b*tch, that breaks the good guy's heart and goes for the bad-guy etc etc) , while the man that committed statutory rape with her is portrayed and a sympathetic guy that happened to be in a dark place and thus he gets away with no punishment, while she dies。 Oh, and the writers slut-shame her without remorse, despite being only 15。 Check her wikipedia page where her physical aspect is described if you don't believe me。 。。。more

Classic comic storyline written by the great Marv Wolfman。 I had a few issues my dad had picked up for me in the mid-1980s when we were on vacation in Ocean City, but I had never read the whole story。 It's surprisingly adult as the 16-year-old spy in the Titans not only meets an untimely demise but is also revealed to be having a sexual relationship with Deathstroke who is in his 50s。 I go back and read a lot of 70s and 80s comics due to nostalgia and most do not hold up very well at all, but Wo Classic comic storyline written by the great Marv Wolfman。 I had a few issues my dad had picked up for me in the mid-1980s when we were on vacation in Ocean City, but I had never read the whole story。 It's surprisingly adult as the 16-year-old spy in the Titans not only meets an untimely demise but is also revealed to be having a sexual relationship with Deathstroke who is in his 50s。 I go back and read a lot of 70s and 80s comics due to nostalgia and most do not hold up very well at all, but Wolfman was pretty ahead of his time and his stuff holds up pretty well。 You also get great art by George Perez。 。。。more

Classic Teen Titans story that remains a hallmark of the series, introducing Nightwing and giving the origin to Deathstroke。 Wolfman crafts a superb story, delving into each character with plenty of twists and turns, along with truly evolving the series。 Terra is a standout as the traitor, at once sweet and dangerous, you find yourself hoping she doesn't turn out to be a turncoat。 George Perez's art is gorgeous and first rate storytelling, with some second to none fight scenes and splash pages。 Classic Teen Titans story that remains a hallmark of the series, introducing Nightwing and giving the origin to Deathstroke。 Wolfman crafts a superb story, delving into each character with plenty of twists and turns, along with truly evolving the series。 Terra is a standout as the traitor, at once sweet and dangerous, you find yourself hoping she doesn't turn out to be a turncoat。 George Perez's art is gorgeous and first rate storytelling, with some second to none fight scenes and splash pages。 I must read for any comic book fan。 。。。more

Even though I really like George Perez' art, it wasn't enough to save this graphic novel from a mediocre two-star rating。 The majority of the page layouts were static, narrow rectangular panels with teeny-tiny figures in them。 There were a few excellent splash pages, and there's a big battle at the end wherein the panels are a bit larger and the artwork more dynamic。 The story itself is tedious。 There's a full issue devoted to a flashback detailing Deadshot's origin story: that issue is pedestri Even though I really like George Perez' art, it wasn't enough to save this graphic novel from a mediocre two-star rating。 The majority of the page layouts were static, narrow rectangular panels with teeny-tiny figures in them。 There were a few excellent splash pages, and there's a big battle at the end wherein the panels are a bit larger and the artwork more dynamic。 The story itself is tedious。 There's a full issue devoted to a flashback detailing Deadshot's origin story: that issue is pedestrian, rote, and absolutely boring。 There're a lot of talking heads throughout the book, and a lot of plodding dialogue。 Marv Wolfman's attempts at writing what I suppose is meant to be Spidey-style banter is absolutely cringeworthy。 Terra is pretty cool character, until her motivations are revealed, which are unsatisfying and, simply, dumb。This story gives us the origin of Nightwing, which is cool, but his origin is simply a lot of trite internal monologue on Dick Grayson's part。 Jericho is a cool character with nifty powers。 I really wanted to like this book (I certainly don't start a couple-hundred-page graphic novel not wanting to like it), but it's largely plodding and tedious。 Not all 'classics' stand the test of time。 。。。more

Reading to relive my childhood but never realized how cheesy and lame they are。 And the constant smoking???? Number one turn off。 No thankYou。

What a delightful trip to the past for a classic D。C。 saga and present the pre-New 52/Rebirth origin of Nightwing。The only reason this is not a 5 star review is that some elements have not aged well。 However, the plotting, storytelling and artwork are sublime and truly present the partnership of Wolfman/Perez at the the height of their powers。I know why this book/arc is held in such high esteem, and if I’d read as it came out I’d probably revere it as much as I do The Dark Knight Returns and Bat What a delightful trip to the past for a classic D。C。 saga and present the pre-New 52/Rebirth origin of Nightwing。The only reason this is not a 5 star review is that some elements have not aged well。 However, the plotting, storytelling and artwork are sublime and truly present the partnership of Wolfman/Perez at the the height of their powers。I know why this book/arc is held in such high esteem, and if I’d read as it came out I’d probably revere it as much as I do The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One。 。。。more

I read this when it was originally printed in single issue format。 This is truly one of my favorite teams and stories。 The team that produces this comic are some of the best ever。 My only complaint is that it should have lasted longer and the last issue of the arc had a small amount of filler instead of action。

AKA the inspiration for season 2 of Teen Titans, which is why I wanted to read this compilation。 I'm not going to lie: it was a bit lackluster for what I was expecting (and that "witty" dialogue--I guess I should cut some slack for the '80s?), and the pacing felt really weird (see: Logan and Terra's sudden romance)。 Still, I really enjoyed it, and as someone who is far more versed in cartoons than comics, it was really interesting to see the story in comic format and also get the backstories for AKA the inspiration for season 2 of Teen Titans, which is why I wanted to read this compilation。 I'm not going to lie: it was a bit lackluster for what I was expecting (and that "witty" dialogue--I guess I should cut some slack for the '80s?), and the pacing felt really weird (see: Logan and Terra's sudden romance)。 Still, I really enjoyed it, and as someone who is far more versed in cartoons than comics, it was really interesting to see the story in comic format and also get the backstories for several characters。 Plus, Deathstroke。 Who doesn't love Deathstroke?
