“like a compass needle that points north, a man’s accusing finger always points a woman”this quote and this book will forever be together with me。

A story about the relationship between parents and children, about friendships set in Afghanistan。 It's a story of struggle in a war torn country, it is a story of hope。 I enjoyed reading The Kite Runner but A Thousand Splendid Suns is even better。 A story about the relationship between parents and children, about friendships set in Afghanistan。 It's a story of struggle in a war torn country, it is a story of hope。 I enjoyed reading The Kite Runner but A Thousand Splendid Suns is even better。 。。。more

This was a tough book to read at times due to the intense violence and the very real reality of war。 What these women had to endure was unimaginable。 Although fiction, it is set in 30 years of real Afghan history, and I felt I learned a good amount about the conflict during that time in Afghanistan。

refreshingly incredible read for female audienceThis book is fabulous for all readers, but it is so rare to find quality books featuring distinct female characters。 Read this book。 Read Kite Runner。

2022 5-sentence or less review:This book had a heartbreaking plot coupled with extremely gorgeous writing。 I'm not sure why, but for the first half of the book I felt I needed to also read the Sparknotes to ensure I absorbed everything appropriately。 I'm not sure if it was the changing perspective or my own faltering attention。 Once I really got into the meat of the book, though, it was moving, powerful, and gripping。 I look forward to reading more by Hosseini。 2022 5-sentence or less review:This book had a heartbreaking plot coupled with extremely gorgeous writing。 I'm not sure why, but for the first half of the book I felt I needed to also read the Sparknotes to ensure I absorbed everything appropriately。 I'm not sure if it was the changing perspective or my own faltering attention。 Once I really got into the meat of the book, though, it was moving, powerful, and gripping。 I look forward to reading more by Hosseini。 。。。more

I had been meaning to read this book for so long and god, it didn’t disappoint。 This story is poignant, compelling, and left me in tears。 Tears of sadness for everything afghan women had to go through, but tears of hope as well, because love and empathy wins after all。 This novel is just as splendid as a thousand suns I guess :)

it was kind of hard to get into and the writing style is hard to understand, overall I think this book is really beautiful but I wouldn’t read another book from this author。 I don’t regret reading this tho

Remarkable masterpiece。 So human, and it leaves you with so much to analyze and go back to your thoughts about this book。 Most tragical thing I've ever read。 I finished this in the age of 16。 So much going on in this story。。。 😥😥😖💔 Remarkable masterpiece。 So human, and it leaves you with so much to analyze and go back to your thoughts about this book。 Most tragical thing I've ever read。 I finished this in the age of 16。 So much going on in this story。。。 😥😥😖💔 。。。more

More like a thousand splendid tears! I wish I was half as strong as Miriam! At the end I felt for Jalil despite everything that happened。 Mr。 Hosseini knows how to write heartwrenching books。

Best bookI have given 5 stars because this novel is beautifully written despite covering some truly painful material。 Hosseini does not shy away from the horror of the plight of women - both Leila & Mariam's depict the powerlessness of women under Taliban rule especially。 I had read Kite Runner a decade ago and enjoyed it。 So I knew this novel would be good but Hosseini surpassed himself。 Thank you KH Best bookI have given 5 stars because this novel is beautifully written despite covering some truly painful material。 Hosseini does not shy away from the horror of the plight of women - both Leila & Mariam's depict the powerlessness of women under Taliban rule especially。 I had read Kite Runner a decade ago and enjoyed it。 So I knew this novel would be good but Hosseini surpassed himself。 Thank you KH 。。。more

A haunting book about pain, tragedy, survival, love and hope that brings together as well as tears apart families, communities, and relationships。 Khaled Hosseini builds the story around two female characters, Mariam and Laila, who come from vastly different family situations and are thrown together by the circumstances of war, and a cruel, self-rightous older man who claims them for his wives。 Their stories are punctuated by historical events that plagued Afghanistan between 1974 and 2003, crea A haunting book about pain, tragedy, survival, love and hope that brings together as well as tears apart families, communities, and relationships。 Khaled Hosseini builds the story around two female characters, Mariam and Laila, who come from vastly different family situations and are thrown together by the circumstances of war, and a cruel, self-rightous older man who claims them for his wives。 Their stories are punctuated by historical events that plagued Afghanistan between 1974 and 2003, creating a tense backdrop for the book and bringing decades of forgotten news reports, starkly and horrifically into the reader's awareness。 This is a powerful and moving book that commands your attention, sweeps you into its pages, and brings you to tears。 A strongly recommended read。 。。。more

I thought this book was very good。 I was exited to read this at first because I had just read kite runner, but this book was nothing like kite runner。 Kite runner, as good as it is, only has one truly hard thing。 But this book has something hard happen almost every chapter it seems。 As much as i liked it, it was very hard to read。 It seems through most of the book bad things just keep happening。 At times I wanted to stop reading but I pushed through and I am glad I did。 It helped me see woman in I thought this book was very good。 I was exited to read this at first because I had just read kite runner, but this book was nothing like kite runner。 Kite runner, as good as it is, only has one truly hard thing。 But this book has something hard happen almost every chapter it seems。 As much as i liked it, it was very hard to read。 It seems through most of the book bad things just keep happening。 At times I wanted to stop reading but I pushed through and I am glad I did。 It helped me see woman in a diffrent way as well as get a diffrent perspective on a diffrent race。 It finally gets good at the end and I would recommend this book to anyone who is up for a good read, This book was very good。 Anybody who comes this way is lucky and will get a good book。 。。。more

This was a fantastic book。 I didn't give it a 5-star rating because it was super hard to read。 There was so much to it and so much hardship that when I read it I didn't feel the best。 Yes, that means it did its job in making me feel the way I was supposed to but what does it matter。 I don't know how to help any of these people, and I just read a hard book for a good reason in the fact I’m now more aware。 It’s still in my opinion doesn't deserve 5 stars。 Loved it though all the characters I hated This was a fantastic book。 I didn't give it a 5-star rating because it was super hard to read。 There was so much to it and so much hardship that when I read it I didn't feel the best。 Yes, that means it did its job in making me feel the way I was supposed to but what does it matter。 I don't know how to help any of these people, and I just read a hard book for a good reason in the fact I’m now more aware。 It’s still in my opinion doesn't deserve 5 stars。 Loved it though all the characters I hated the characters and loved them。 He does a great job on writing but still the way I felt like he could have made it more appealing to the people reading。 I get it’s supposed to be a hard read but still。 It was just a little too hard for me。 I haven't read anything like that ever, so I wasn't as prepared。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This book is fantastic。 I liked kite runner a lot and I love this book even more。 I first enjoyed the way the book was written; flipping between the two characters every chapter。 This really let the author show how different life could be for two different women living on the same street。 The book has so many terrible things happen and it just goes down and down and down。 Until the end, where it gets better and just sad。 I was so happy that Laila was able to go and live with Tariq and be happy, This book is fantastic。 I liked kite runner a lot and I love this book even more。 I first enjoyed the way the book was written; flipping between the two characters every chapter。 This really let the author show how different life could be for two different women living on the same street。 The book has so many terrible things happen and it just goes down and down and down。 Until the end, where it gets better and just sad。 I was so happy that Laila was able to go and live with Tariq and be happy, even eventually coming back to Kabul。 At the same time I almost cried as Mariam stayed to let Laila escape and sacrificing her life for her。 Allowing Laila to get the happiness and freedom Mariam was never able to have。 This book was so sad yet so good and I would readily recommend it to anyone who is willing to read it。 。。。more
