Even happy families have their secrets…
Since the sudden death of her husband, Naomi has steadily rebuilt the life they shared in the village of Tilsham by the sea。

Her eldest daughter, Martha, is sensible and determined – just like her father was – and very much in control of where her life is going。 If she could just get pregnant with her husband, life would be perfect。

Willow, the youngest, was always more sunny and easy-going, yet drifted through life, much to her father’s frustration。 But now, with charming new boyfriend, Rick, she has a very good reason to settle down。

The three women are as close as can be。 But there are things Naomi has kept from her daughters。 Like the arrival of Ellis, a long-lost friend from way back, now bringing the fun and spark back into her life。 And she’s certainly never told them that her marriage to their father wasn’t quite what it seemed…

This is such a delightful book which held my interest all the way through。 The story touches on many difficult subjects in a very calm manner。 We have domestic violence, unwanted pregnancy amongst others。 Even though these are hard hitting subjects they are dealt with with incredible compassion。 I loved the relationship between Naomi, Martha and Willow and all the difficulties that come with having two children who are completely different。 A lovely story which will stay with me for a while

This was my first time reading an Erica James book and it was so comforting to read。 I instantly was involved in the story and the characters and found myself lost in it。 The story focuses on families and the changes that they go through。 I loved Naomi and her daughters, they were each strong women in their own right and it was really good to read how they overcame things and faced difficulties together。 The story was gripping, fast paced and kept my interest throughout。 The setting of the story This was my first time reading an Erica James book and it was so comforting to read。 I instantly was involved in the story and the characters and found myself lost in it。 The story focuses on families and the changes that they go through。 I loved Naomi and her daughters, they were each strong women in their own right and it was really good to read how they overcame things and faced difficulties together。 The story was gripping, fast paced and kept my interest throughout。 The setting of the story I loved and I want to now visit Anchor House。 This was a beautiful story, one that I can recommend and I will definitely find myself picking up another one of her novels again soon。 。。。more

I have always loved Erica James books but this one certainly excels itself。 I could not put it down。It tells the story of mother and daughter relationships and the length a mother will go for her daughters。 Although the theme is a serious one the writing has offered it as an uplifting read and something that mums can relate to。A wonderful book to lose yourself in。 It was an absolute delight to read this book。Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC。

I so wanted to love this but sadly there were just far too many viewpoints and the constant switching between them made the story feel choppy and lacking flow。 It meant I never really "fell into" the book, never found myself utterly consumed by it or unable to put it down。 Technically the writing is absolutely on par, characterisation and dialogue were both strong and the West Sussex coast setting was delightful to read about but it just wasn't for me。 I so wanted to love this but sadly there were just far too many viewpoints and the constant switching between them made the story feel choppy and lacking flow。 It meant I never really "fell into" the book, never found myself utterly consumed by it or unable to put it down。 Technically the writing is absolutely on par, characterisation and dialogue were both strong and the West Sussex coast setting was delightful to read about but it just wasn't for me。 。。。more

Naomi is very close to her daughters but she has kept things from them, including the fact that Ellis, an old friend from years ago is back in her life, and their father wasn't always the wonderful man they thought he was。Mothers and Daughters is a contemporary family drama following the lives of these three women, how they are still dealing with the death of Colin, whilst also trying to move on with their lives。 The characters are realistic, they all have their own flaws, which makes them very relatable and I became so invested in them, I loved how the dynamics of the relationships changed continually throughout, and the trials and tribulations they had faced in the past and continued to in the present day made them closer and stronger together。 There are some delicate subjects covered in this story, which the author writes with compassion and sensitivity。 Erica James' books are easy reads which will have you smiling one minute and in tears the next, and this one is no exception。 It's a fabulous story, which I didn't want to put down, and I look forward to reading more by this author。I'd like to thank HQ and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day。 。。。more

Mothers and Daughters by Erica James is an enjoyable light read。 Naomi lives in a small seaside village on her own after her husband Colin dies。 Her husband was a pillar of the community but was there more to him and their relationship than people realise。 Naomi's two daughters Martha and Willow are exact opposites。 Martha likes to plan her life but trying for a baby might not be as easy to plan as she thinks。 Willow goes through life with no plans and seems very easy going。 However her new boy Mothers and Daughters by Erica James is an enjoyable light read。 Naomi lives in a small seaside village on her own after her husband Colin dies。 Her husband was a pillar of the community but was there more to him and their relationship than people realise。 Naomi's two daughters Martha and Willow are exact opposites。 Martha likes to plan her life but trying for a baby might not be as easy to plan as she thinks。 Willow goes through life with no plans and seems very easy going。 However her new boyfriend seems very attached to her and keen to become part of her family。Naomi meets a man from her past who she falls madly in love with but her daughters are upset she is letting go of her past with Colin and moving on。I really enjoyed this story, however about a third of the way in, I realised I knew what was going to happen! Sisters Martha and Willow want to get their mother to sell the family house named Anchor House in the idyllic seaside town of Tilsham。 After their dad died a few years ago, they think their mother (Naomi) should sell up and move closer to them in Surrey。 Well it's more Martha's idea really, she thinks that when she has her own family her mum would be better placed to be living nearer her daughters and she could also step into helping with childcare duties。 But Martha has her own personal problem Sisters Martha and Willow want to get their mother to sell the family house named Anchor House in the idyllic seaside town of Tilsham。 After their dad died a few years ago, they think their mother (Naomi) should sell up and move closer to them in Surrey。 Well it's more Martha's idea really, she thinks that when she has her own family her mum would be better placed to be living nearer her daughters and she could also step into helping with childcare duties。 But Martha has her own personal problems, she would love so desperately to become pregnant but it just isn't happening。 Willow at present is house sitting for two of her friends, who are spending a year of freedom travelling before starting a family, she has no problems to worry about, except coping with two siamese cats, whom Rick, Willows partner seems to detest。 Rick is also a strange person towards Willow, causing her untold miseries, almost each and every day。 Naomi has one big reason why she doesn't want to move away and that's Ellis, he was on the scene years ago, when they were both at university together and later on before Martha was born。 Now Ellis is back and a big part in Naomi's life again。 When Naomi suggests a meeting with Ellis, Martha is very distraught and can't cope mentally with this new situation in her life, Willow is a bit more easy going about the whole situation, but as you read through this book you find you are thinking about the relationship between Naomi and her daughters, and find yourself wondering is there some deep rooted problem?A tale of family angst, sisterhood and sisterly rivalry, jealousy and wanting things to go back to how they were before。 A time before Ellis, a time when for Martha and Willow it was just their mother。 But are they seeing their childhood through rose tinted glasses? Will Naomi have to make a difficult decision, who will she put first? Will the two sisters find happiness in their lives? This book covers some sensitive subjects that some readers may feel uncomfortable reading about, but I think it is done with sensitivity and it does add considerably to the storyline。 I have loved every book by Erica James that I have read and this one is no exception。 It has strong female characters, which it definitely needs and you find yourself rooting for each one of them。 I think that it's deserves to be a book that gets people talking and taking some action in their lives, indeed it is very much a thought provoking family drama, all wrapped up in this great book。 A well deserved 5 star read from me。 。。。more

This novel unfolds many home truths, but also the suppression of the truth to protect those closest to us。 I loved all the characters, in particular the younger sister with whom I had much empathy。 A pretty emotional ride, providing an insight into the realms of abusive men。 Facing the truth is one thing, but actually confronting it takes courage。 The sisters were so very different in character it was interesting to observe their strengths and weaknesses。 Erica James’ style of writing is excelle This novel unfolds many home truths, but also the suppression of the truth to protect those closest to us。 I loved all the characters, in particular the younger sister with whom I had much empathy。 A pretty emotional ride, providing an insight into the realms of abusive men。 Facing the truth is one thing, but actually confronting it takes courage。 The sisters were so very different in character it was interesting to observe their strengths and weaknesses。 Erica James’ style of writing is excellent - the more you read, the greater the pull to read more until you feel totally immersed。 With so many new novels coming to market, it’s difficult to choose, but I’m so glad I picked this one。 The story was highly credible and for me even more enjoyable as the story flowed through one timeline。My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this advance copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more
