Gotta say, calling it "the last she" while saying all the females are dead and saying the men haven't seen any women stinks。 It's very stinky。 I don't like that take at all。 Might as well call it "I stand with JKR" Gotta say, calling it "the last she" while saying all the females are dead and saying the men haven't seen any women stinks。 It's very stinky。 I don't like that take at all。 Might as well call it "I stand with JKR" 。。。more

I sat down and read it in a day because I was so intrigued by the concept。 I mean, a plague (I tried not to think too hard about this aspect given the times we are in 😅) wipes out the females except for one - Ara - and a boy - Kaden - captures her and takes her back to his crew, telling himself he is doing it to protect her。 But there is so much to each of their lives and the story。 It was fascinating! I like that it was an easy read。 My head was hurting, so it was easy to read through brain fog。 The story kept me entertained and distracted me through my pain。 The story also kept me really invested。 With every chapter, I had to know why。 Why was Kaden doing what he was doing? Why was Ara making the choices she was making? By the end of the book, I was so invested that I had no idea I was at the last chapter! Then I was frustrated and wanted more。 😂 Needless to say, I’m very excited about book two。 I will point out you have to suspend your disbelief, remembering it is a sci-fi dystopian otherwise, you aren’t going to enjoy this。 It doesn’t have magical elements to help you not forget that except the plague。 But it’s a lot of adventure and what-ifs。Take the plunge and experience what it would be like to have only one female left on earth through Ara’s eyes。 It’s quite the experience, and I can’t wait for more! Thanks Wattpadbooks for the gifted book!Content Warnings: (per the author) violence, attempted sexual assault, fighting, animal death 。。。more

the writer is just so sweet to answer my Dms while reading her book she made me fall in love wit the book even more, wish you all the best in your life and i will be waiting for the second book QuotesThere are no such things as friendly men, Ara。 Not in this world。 Not for youThe wrongness of the moment twisted my gut even now。 It was a horrible thing we did, leaving her。 A decision that has haunted me ever since。 Maybe my punishment was that all I had now was an empty pistol and my father’s final words: to go back to the beginning。Ara 。 。 。 I made a mistake, we all did。 Go back to the beginning 。 。 。 go back 。 。 。 it’s not too lateMy entire body stiffened with fear。 He was tall and well built, with curly hair and strange, green eyes, like the forest itself was watching me。 In a different life, I might have thought him handsome, but now I saw only an enemy stronger than myselfAnd maybe, complicating it all, was the sudden realization that while I wanted to steal his weapon and escape, I wanted to do it without hurting him or his team。 Maybe that was why he talked so freely; it was harder to hurt someone you knew something about, even if it was as small as the fact they were from Montana, liked horses, and had given you an annoying nickname。 I hadn’t corrected him the last time he’d called me princess; some small piece of me missed talking and joking with another human。 There was something refreshing about Kaden’s approach to surviving the end of the world。 Not all of his choices were strictly aligned with survival。 Some seemed more for fun。 It was a bizarre, reckless approach that I both admired and figured would eventually get him killed。Because we live in a world where women are all but extinct。 Because the men in the clan will see me as a possession and not a person。 Because I already betrayed everyone I loveMaybe we are all prisoners to the cards life has dealt us。 I am a prisoner to duty, the leader of a clan。 Men depend on me。 We each have a part to play in the redemption of the world。“If we were riding this horse, maybe。 But if we were riding Red? Never。 Red could race the wind and win。 We’d disappear into the sunset and never be seen again。To the end of one world—and the beginning of another。 From the ashes may we rise rebornI wished it weren’t so easy to imagine it。 Wished I didn’t instantly wonder what a new beginning with Kaden would mean。 Because I already knew my answer。 “I don’t want a new family, Kaden。 I want my old one back。” I won’t give up on them。 Not againme: I couldn’t trust or rely on anyone。 All these men, even if they meant me well, only stood in my way。I was well rested。 I had supplies。 There was only one way to honor my father’s words: go back to the beginning。 The beginning that had to be home。 It was time I left the clanI believe in the sun even when it’s not shining。 I believe in love even when I cannot feel it。 I believe in God even when He is silent。 Who said that?” I finally asked。ttt“Someone who also lived in darkness and managed to find the lightYou accused me of using you, but that has never been true。 I only want to protect you。 The truth is, I am afraid to open up and share, I’m afraid of losing the ones I love, I’m afraid of not being good enough。” He stopped for a moment, searching for his words。 I heard the frustration in his voice。 “I’m afraid of failing, of not protecting my family, my people。” He stepped closer, took my chin in his handsBut down here, even those words had begun to bring despair。 I wanted to believe he’d left me something, or, in my wildest hopes, that he would be waiting there for me。 But what if I was wrong again, and the beginning wasn’t home? Or, worst of all, what if I made it home and found nothingtears of elation and pain overflowing from the sudden brightness after so long in the dark。 But I didn’t let it stop me。 Pain was a small cost to pay for freedom。ttt“I’m coming, SamI sat up all night, watching the flames grow lower and lower until only embers remained。 I tried to think of Sam, of Ara, of what was still left。 Of what remainedWe both stared down at him, an unspoken question rising between us。 If he wasn’t dead, he deserved to be。 But for some reason I couldn’t let Kaden kill him。 Not for Colborn’s sake, but for Kaden’s。 I knew too well that some stains could never be washed awayHe laughed, and I tried to smile, though the memory was more chilling than fond。 I could tell he’d set his pace to mine, and though it chafed my pride, my legs burned with enough pain to swallow what little remainedthere was nothing but the cold wind, Kaden’s warmth, and an exhilarating, terrifying fear, like flying, or falling, or both。 Though death lay behind us, and darkness before, I felt something I hadn’t in a long time。 HopeShe led you here, Ara。 She saved us both。 Why does it matter if she wasn’t flesh and bloodbreathless and terrified and burning。 Like nothing else existedI stood at a crossroads, a boundary that, once crossed, would never allow for return。 ttt“I promisetttI envy the peace you find in darkness。” My words stung of bitterness, but Issac didn’t moveMaybe that was what men did best。 They leftI wanted to thank him for being my friend, for being a better father than the man the world had given me。 I wanted to say something deep, something true, something a hero would say at the end of the story。tttBut I was only a man。tttttt“What will God think of you lying?” tttttttttA flash of white as he smiled。 “Let’s hope I don’t have to ask HimtttttttttRed screamed as the bullet took him full in the chest, where Sam had been just a moment before。tttRed’s chest exploded and a noise not of this world escaped himtttd。 A fresh dose of misery shot through me。 He had deserved to live out his days in a pasture of green grass, not die on a useless battlefield。 This wasn’t even a war worth fighting。 The world had ended, but still, all we could do was fight and kill each other。 What were we even fighting for? I laid a hand on Red and crouched behind his body。 Even in death he protected usThe brightness of her cheek would shame those stars as daylight doth a lamp; her eyes in heaven would through the airy region stream so bright that birds would sing and think it were not night。”I loved Kaden。 I loved him with a pain that physically hurt。 And I could never have himyou've done some bad things and you would do worse for the people you love“There is no peace in this world,” I said bitterly when finally I found the words。 ttt“There is only the peace we find。” So simple。 So like Issac。I stood on the front lawn and stared at my house。 Kaden should be here with me。 And Sam。 And Issac。 And my father。 But I couldn’t have made it here without them, so all I could do now was carry their memory inside meThere’s something beautiful in believing without really knowing。 Issac would have called it faith。”“Princess, you will be the death of me,” he whispered。 I barely heard him。He was alive。 tttAnd finally, everything was worth it。 All the pain, the loneliness, the betrayal, the doubt。 Everything I’d gone through was worth itwhen I saw him as a man that stood between me and my goal, or even as I had later, as a man who might help me get to where I needed。 Instead, I looked at him as the person I wanted beside me wherever my path led me next。 It was like seeing in color after a lifetime of black and white。 “I love you。“I feel like I could jump off a cliff and fly。” tttKaden laughed。 “Please don’t。”tttttt“It feels like I’m alive again。 Emma and my father are alive 。。。more

I was a little disappointed with the main character, Ara。 There seems to be this weird dichotomy of her being tough and outlasting her situation and also relying on the men around her to make her choices/she won’t stand up for herself in many situations。 The ending felt unresolved but not in a good way。 And I also agree with those who say that there is no way that she would have been encamped with a bunch of men and not hear one lewd comment and not get harassed。 But it was worth the read and go I was a little disappointed with the main character, Ara。 There seems to be this weird dichotomy of her being tough and outlasting her situation and also relying on the men around her to make her choices/she won’t stand up for herself in many situations。 The ending felt unresolved but not in a good way。 And I also agree with those who say that there is no way that she would have been encamped with a bunch of men and not hear one lewd comment and not get harassed。 But it was worth the read and good if you want to satisfy a dystopian fix! 。。。more

Once or twice is understandable but it's like all the action was built around how many times Ara or Kaden would escape and then turn themselves in so the other isn't hurt。 Honestly, it got boring。 It's really the only thing that I didn't like about the book。, but when your plot moves in circles, it doesn't make readers want to reach for the next book。 I would recommend this book to anyone who loves dystopian with a little romance, To anyone who appreciates a good insta-love trope。 I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who gets tired of reading the same thing over and over again。 ⭐⭐⭐✨ 3。5 stars from me for The Last She。 。。。more

I found this book by chance and thought it sounded really interesting and I think lived up to my expectations。 It is a cool concept and I liked that it was originally a Wattpad story。 This is a good pick for dystopian readers and for young/ new adults。 The only downside for me is that I was looking for a standalone and I think this was written to be a series, or at least a duopoly。

Meh。 It wasn’t cringeworthy but also nothing stellar。 It ended on a cliffhanger so I’ll have to see if I bother to pick up the sequel if there is one。The writing was basic and the characters lackluster。 The two mains Ara and Kaden are a bit boring with minimal love sparks。 For how brave and brawny they are made out to be they aren’t resourceful or sneaky enough to get behind… constantly walking into traps and getting captured due to their own stupidity。 I found this out of balance for heroes。The Meh。 It wasn’t cringeworthy but also nothing stellar。 It ended on a cliffhanger so I’ll have to see if I bother to pick up the sequel if there is one。The writing was basic and the characters lackluster。 The two mains Ara and Kaden are a bit boring with minimal love sparks。 For how brave and brawny they are made out to be they aren’t resourceful or sneaky enough to get behind… constantly walking into traps and getting captured due to their own stupidity。 I found this out of balance for heroes。The dystopian premise is interesting but not well developed。 All the questions about the science behind the plague are mentioned and then dropped。 Supporting characters Liam and Isaac stole the show… and the horse Red。 Why does Ara refer to her parents as Mother and Father? Way out of line with a modern world。 Although this was a tolerable read I just found it fell flat in most ways which was a disappointment。 。。。more

Before I start my review, I just want to make it clear that there is no hate or disrespect toward the author or anyone who enjoyed this book。 These are just my thoughts and opinions which I thought I would share。This book just wasn't for me。 It seemed rushed and all over the place。 The characters didn't seem special or unique in any way。 And I felt like the main character and love interest didn't have much chemistry。 Before I start my review, I just want to make it clear that there is no hate or disrespect toward the author or anyone who enjoyed this book。 These are just my thoughts and opinions which I thought I would share。This book just wasn't for me。 It seemed rushed and all over the place。 The characters didn't seem special or unique in any way。 And I felt like the main character and love interest didn't have much chemistry。 。。。more

I really struggled with rating this book and went between ratings through the whole book。 At the beginning, I was so excited about it, I was ready to give it a 5。 At some points, I was so frustrated with the issues, I was ready to give it a 1。 I leaned towards giving it a 3, but ultimately settled on a 4 because if we're being completely honest, I'll end up reading the next one that comes out because I do still want to know what happens next。The writing itself was well done, the reading flowed, I really struggled with rating this book and went between ratings through the whole book。 At the beginning, I was so excited about it, I was ready to give it a 5。 At some points, I was so frustrated with the issues, I was ready to give it a 1。 I leaned towards giving it a 3, but ultimately settled on a 4 because if we're being completely honest, I'll end up reading the next one that comes out because I do still want to know what happens next。The writing itself was well done, the reading flowed, I got through the book fairly quickly because it kept me going。 But it was still problematic。Ultimately, I think my issues with the book lie in my conclusion that this book must have been written to be a YA romance novel first that just happened to be set in this post-apocalyptic, last-woman-standing scenario as an afterthought。 This resulted in major plot holes that just didn't make sense and didn't feel realistic。 But the story itself? It's fine。 It's just not right for the setup。The basic premise of the story is that a virus has taken humans to the brink of extinction and for some reason, it disproportionately affected women。 This leaves Ara, the last known woman with reproductive capabilities on Earth (at least as far as we know)。 She hasn't seen another human (other than her dad) for years when she suddenly stumbles on civilization again (unknown why she didn't stumble on them before since humans seem to be everywhere) and finds herself surrounded by young men, who all appear to be cishet, who haven't seen a woman in years, who suddenly see an attractive woman at just the right age to reproduce, and who are literally staring down the precipice of what they should assume would be total human extinction by the end of their lifetimes。 I'm sure you can guess how the story is formed around that situation and I'm here to tell you, it doesn't go in that direction whatsoever which is just weird and illogical。 What was the point of that setup in the first place if the obvious aspects of human nature were completely ignored? And I understand this book was not written to be graphic or disconcerting and was clearly designed for a younger/more-innocent audience, but then, in that case, why start in this direction in the first place? The author didn't have to make her this lost, lonely, beautiful, young, wandering, damsel in distress。 There are other ways to have made her "The Last She" that could have avoided gratuitous scenes, but also didn't also completely disregard logic。 Or maybe we could have just made it a post-apocalyptic world with the exact same storyline and just not made her "The Last She。" Given that the title of the book is "The Last She," you would think the book would in some way build on that, but it only mentioned it when it was convenient to the storyline and for that, I hated it。But I'll still read the next one。 :-/ 。。。more

I loved this。 I generally gravitate toward more fantasy, but had just finished a great Dystopian novel and didn’t want to jump back to my normal reads。 I’m such a mood reader and knew from the second I started reading that this was exactly what I wanted。 It really is nonstop and a great easy read if you’re a fan of post apocalyptic world。 I got through it in less than 24 hours and am very much excited to read further into the series!

The Last SheIs a peculiar title; a trifle ill educated, perhaps? Yet the first chapters are thrilling and the premise, although on an old theme, delivers quite a refreshing tale in this post apocalyptic, dystopian novel。 Until they don’t。Gosh, the ending is so pat, so long and so pat…。。cliched and hackneyed and, dare I say, utterly, boringly predictable。Ara…。is she meant to be Lara Croft? Whatever, she’s 19 and our “hero” is - wait for it - 21 going on forty。 The amount of Suspension of Belief r The Last SheIs a peculiar title; a trifle ill educated, perhaps? Whatever, she’s 19 and our “hero” is - wait for it - 21 going on forty。 The amount of Suspension of Belief required to get to grips with the characters in this book is huge; I found each person more comical than the last and, as for Addison, give me strength。 Everything and everyone is astonishingly black and white; there is no nuance in any of these people whatsoever。 And the writer has decided (wrongly in my opinion) to leave all options open for her sequels which is a shame as the idea has all the inventive imagination of Robin Hood reimagined。 Oh, and the biggest annoyance in this written for juniors by someone even more junior novel? Ara Never Gets A Haircut。 Not Once。 Somehow (At the End of Everything) she always has a hat to hand, but seriously it’s the end of bloody everything including, one should think, milliners。 Zilch points for authenticity their, mate。What should of been excellent falls flat on its face into a morass of the mundane; WattPad should be giving this very amateurish series away for free。 。。。more

The Last She gave me all kinds of flashbacks to the early 2010’s, when my fave sub-genre of YA, Dystopian, was super popular。 It was giving me aspects of The Fifth Wave (minus the aliens), The Darkest Minds (minus the magic), and Matched (minus the government control on relationships)。 This was like if the Zombie virus broke out, but humans have all but obliterated them。 It’s only been a few years since the outbreak, but humans are living。 The virus just took out more women than men, so Ara feel The Last She gave me all kinds of flashbacks to the early 2010’s, when my fave sub-genre of YA, Dystopian, was super popular。 It was giving me aspects of The Fifth Wave (minus the aliens), The Darkest Minds (minus the magic), and Matched (minus the government control on relationships)。 This was like if the Zombie virus broke out, but humans have all but obliterated them。 It’s only been a few years since the outbreak, but humans are living。 The virus just took out more women than men, so Ara feels like she’s the only one left。 Of course, she’s been in hiding for years now, so she doesn’t really know exactly what’s out there。When she starts following some men in the woods where she lives so that she can steal supplies, she’s surrounded and caught。 None of them have seen a woman in a very long time… at this point is when I started getting scared that there was going to be a sexual assault, which is what I think the author wanted you to expect。 It did NOT happen here, or anywhere else in the book, but the expectation was always there。I will say that one of my big big big TRIGGER WARNINGS is animal death in books。 Whether on page or of a beloved family pet off screen。 Both happened in the book along with something horrible having to do with one of them that I won’t spoil for anyone who doesn’t want to know。 I’m not sure if I had known, I would have read it…… but after the initial pain, I moved on。Other than that, I really enjoyed the book。 I definitely love this genre and need more。 I will be reading the next 2 books and I’m excited for them。 。。。more

Ara is the last woman alive after an apocalypse that turned humans and animals rabid with the desire to kill。 She's managed to survive with the help of her father, but when they are separated, and Ara begins to fears the worst, she is left to navigate the world alone with his last message- "Go back to the beginning。"This message fuels her desire for answers as she begins the journey home。 Along the way, she is kidnapped by a group of male survivors and forced to return to their base。 This book had tons of potential but I struggled through most of it as there were some blinding gaps in the writing。 First of all, the relationship dynamic between Kayden and Ara was lacking and literally, the only thing sustaining me throughout this book was the hint of a love triangle。 I think my main issue stems from the author's inability to properly articulate the motives of not only the main characters but also the supporting characters, which leaves readers stumped as to the logic being implied。 Let's look at this scenario: Ara is the last woman alive and she goes into an encampment with men who haven't seen a woman in years。 There is not one lustful look or lewd comment being made and that astounded me。I appreciated the attempts at mystery with Ara's role but it was a bit obvious that she is special because of her survival so pretending otherwise is silly。 I feel the need to say again that there is potential within the story but the character development, plot, and intent need to be ironed out。Thank you to Watpad books for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more
