Sometimes looking at pictures of Lego is just as fun as building it。 I must have spent hours looking at the catalogues when I was a kid just for the sake of enjoying the images, and it's a similar experience looking at this book。 My favorites were the birds because that's something fun and impressive yet simple enough to possibly build birds with my own parts。 Most of my favorites were among the animals and creatures。 My only dislike is that one of the largest castles in the book was put into a Sometimes looking at pictures of Lego is just as fun as building it。 I must have spent hours looking at the catalogues when I was a kid just for the sake of enjoying the images, and it's a similar experience looking at this book。 My favorites were the birds because that's something fun and impressive yet simple enough to possibly build birds with my own parts。 Most of my favorites were among the animals and creatures。 My only dislike is that one of the largest castles in the book was put into a small picture and I could barely see the details。 。。。more

What better way of spending the holidays than playing with Lego and when your collection runs out why not get a book that shows off what several hundred thousand pieces can create (along with an insane amount of skill and dedication)。 And so on to the next in the Beautiful Lego series of books - this time focusing on Wild themes (from animals to buildings and scenery)。 The book is a beautiful demonstration of what can be accomplished with this infinitely creative medium。The book its an amazing r What better way of spending the holidays than playing with Lego and when your collection runs out why not get a book that shows off what several hundred thousand pieces can create (along with an insane amount of skill and dedication)。 And so on to the next in the Beautiful Lego series of books - this time focusing on Wild themes (from animals to buildings and scenery)。 The book is a beautiful demonstration of what can be accomplished with this infinitely creative medium。The book its an amazing read - focusing on various sub-themes as well as professionals in the field (are they engineers, artists, no idea) what they are however are incredible, True the book is short on words but the amazing photography certainly makes up for it。 This is a pleasure you read and certainly a great source of inspiration covering the most basic of designs all the way up to truly mind blowing creations。 。。。more

Beautiful, amazing, and so creative! I wish I had the patience to puzzle out how to engineer something like one project in this book - but, who am I kidding? What a feast for the LEGO-lover!

Random Library pick for me!I really enjoyed this Art book。 We recently visited Legoland California this summer and I was blown away by all the sculptures and displays they have all over the park。 When I saw this book I knew I would enjoy it!I rated the book a 4 because I felt some of the larger pieces were given small spots (Lionel Martin's The Vampire Castle 2014, for example) and some of the smaller pieces were given larger spots。 Some of the larger pieces had much more detail to be in awe of Random Library pick for me!I really enjoyed this Art book。 We recently visited Legoland California this summer and I was blown away by all the sculptures and displays they have all over the park。 When I saw this book I knew I would enjoy it!I rated the book a 4 because I felt some of the larger pieces were given small spots (Lionel Martin's The Vampire Castle 2014, for example) and some of the smaller pieces were given larger spots。 Some of the larger pieces had much more detail to be in awe of but was lacking due to the positioning of the pictures。 Also some pieces appeared to be cropped。。 which was fine, but left me wanting more。This was the first Beautiful Lego book I enjoyed, was glad to read there were others to look for! 。。。more

Great selection but I wish some of the photos were larger。

For some reason when I first encountered this book at my library, it didn't look very appealing, though it did prompt me to track down Beautiful Lego 2: Dark。 And having read that, I figured it made sense to read this one too。 I think my problem was that, at a glance, or quickly flipping through the book, a lot of the models I see are very cartoonish, and just don't have an appealing aesthetic in my opinion。 But actually reading through the book, it has a lot of the appeal of its predecessors。 I For some reason when I first encountered this book at my library, it didn't look very appealing, though it did prompt me to track down Beautiful Lego 2: Dark。 And having read that, I figured it made sense to read this one too。 I think my problem was that, at a glance, or quickly flipping through the book, a lot of the models I see are very cartoonish, and just don't have an appealing aesthetic in my opinion。 But actually reading through the book, it has a lot of the appeal of its predecessors。 I particularly like the number of landscapes/dioramas that make up the beginning。 And there is a whole section that is mostly dragons。 One interesting thing I noticed is how many Tolkien-themed creations there are, both LoTR and The Hobbit; I wonder if the recent movies spurred on interest。 Or if it was a matter of Tolkien-themed sets and minifigs being available for use? Also fun, three different people reproduced Far Side comics in legos。 。。。more

My daughter got this so I had to look at it。 There are some amazing pieces found in this book like the landscapes and the animals。 There are some that are not even nature related but still somehow made into a book that says it is about nature。

Lego's and I have a weird relationship。 I spend my hard earned cash on a never-ending suckfest of them。 The boy child thinks he must have every set that he sees。 I'm a total strict parent so I buy him some of them。I wish I had invented the suckers。 Because Millionaire。I hate them。 They are all over my house。 He can never find the piece he so desperately needs。 And the middle of the night trip to the bathroom could make the most devout war criminal talk。 I do like to look at all the things Lego's and I have a weird relationship。 I spend my hard earned cash on a never-ending suckfest of them。 The boy child thinks he must have every set that he sees。 I'm a total strict parent so I buy him some of them。I wish I had invented the suckers。 Because Millionaire。I hate them。 They are all over my house。 He can never find the piece he so desperately needs。 And the middle of the night trip to the bathroom could make the most devout war criminal talk。 I do like to look at all the things that other people can make with them。 I can make sticks。 I can make swords。 That's about it。This book is way over my head。。but so pretty。 I had the boy child look at this book and told him he should try and make me some of this stuff。 He snorted at me。 So I'm taking it out on his Lego's。 Booksouce: Edelweiss in exchange for review。 。。。more

This is a collection of photographs of LEGO designs by a variety of designers。 It is the third installment in a series of books containing LEGO designs。 Some of these are completely amazing。 I love the details。 There are a couple replicas from Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit that really impressed me。 I also want to comment on a monarch butterfly model that took an amazing number of pieces to complete。 I zoomed in on my tablet until the blocks were actual size, it is much larger than I thought。T This is a collection of photographs of LEGO designs by a variety of designers。 It is the third installment in a series of books containing LEGO designs。 Some of these are completely amazing。 I love the details。 There are a couple replicas from Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit that really impressed me。 I also want to comment on a monarch butterfly model that took an amazing number of pieces to complete。 I zoomed in on my tablet until the blocks were actual size, it is much larger than I thought。The reason I picked this up is because my son has become a LEGO lover。 He really enjoyed looking at this book and now is asking for a variety new LEGO sets。 I recieved a copy of this from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review。  。。。more

I have to confess, I passed on Doyle’s earlier volumes of Beautiful LEGO。 I’d flicked through the first book and hadn’t been tempted, so the second book release just passed me by… Then AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) news sites and magazines dedicated to the hobby began to show little previews of ‘Wild!’, the third in the series… So, that beautiful rainbow lorikeet on the cover? I caved in about 60 seconds flat - once I’d picked my jaw up off the floor - and pre-ordered myself a copy。 It arrived today I have to confess, I passed on Doyle’s earlier volumes of Beautiful LEGO。 I’d flicked through the first book and hadn’t been tempted, so the second book release just passed me by… Then AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) news sites and magazines dedicated to the hobby began to show little previews of ‘Wild!’, the third in the series… So, that beautiful rainbow lorikeet on the cover? I caved in about 60 seconds flat - once I’d picked my jaw up off the floor - and pre-ordered myself a copy。 It arrived today and it’s safe to say I have no regrets (except perhaps that I’d dismissed those previous two books!)The physical book itself is excellent quality: it has a nice weight to it and has a ‘soft’ hardcover folded about for the internal blurb and about the author。 The paper stock is good quality, nice and glossy for the photography but not so glossy that you end up with light-glare on the page when perusing。As for content? That stunning lorikeet represents the standard of projects throughout – each piece is genuinely Art and the collection gathered here is simply glorious。 The showcasing photography really does capture their wonder and the range, under the ‘Wild’ bracket’, really impressed me。I was expecting to see animals, from the usual domesticated critters such as cats, dogs and horses, as well as some more exotic entries (particularly the pangolin and sea otter, both utterly charming!), but I was delighted to see such a broad selection of more fanciful creatures。 Sample images of the phoenix and sci-fi-esque glass spider had done the rounds, but it didn’t prepare me for the sheer variety of fantasy characters。 There isn’t just original dragon creations either, but familiar critters from How to Train your Dragon too。 Pokémon also make several appearances (Leafeon!), Disney characters like Rafiki and Mushu, various from Dreamwork’s Ku Fu Panda and, to my delight, even a little Naga the Polar Bear Dog from Avatar: Legend of Korra, Falkor the Luckdragon (Never-ending Story) and Ludo from Labyrinth! Fans of all ages are going to LOVE this。In addition to the beasties, there are also wild scenes – ‘Living with Nature’ - that I could happily stare at for hours。 A whole section dedicated to Trees, a little Asian section and quite a representation of Middle-Earth including Rivendell and Mordor… But it is this section which brings up the one flaw I have with this book。 At the beginning, where these great scenes are, I’d love to see the images represented on a slightly larger scale。 You get a sense of the scope of each project, but I had to practically press my nose to the book to look at some of the details where there were as many as three projects to the page (looking for build techniques and ideas to pilfer for MOCs (My Own Creations), so the larger the image the better!)。 They aren’t ridiculously small, they’re still viewable, but if you’re curious about details such as roofing techniques, you’ll be wishing it was at least 10% larger。 [As an aside, avid fans will spot the inclusion of 10228 Haunted House in a rather impressive landscape setting (Go forth and consider it a Where’s Wally moment!)]You can, of course, locate these images online for a closer look, but it rather defies the point of the art book! I’d forgive this sardine approach if it wasn’t for elsewhere in the book where some sections, such as the fish toward the back, are decadently large with a huge half page image spread。Overall, this book is beautiful – as promised in the title。 I’ve already flicked through it multiple times, whipping back and forth, spotting new details each time。 If you have a LEGO fan in your life, be they small or not-so-small, I think everyone will find something to wonder at here。 Certainly I want to get experimenting with waterfalls after drooling over some of these beauties。 This is a coffee table book to be proud of and, having just corrupted a friend into the LEGO hobby(/obsession), this may just HAVE to end up under her tree this Christmas。Aside from the LEGO itself, there are also brief one-page interviews with some of the creators featured in the book – including Tom Poulsom (creator of the awesome LEGO IDEAS 21301 Birds, which if you’re familiar with will give you a ball-park of the quality of the goodies within ‘Wild!’)。 It’s been very well proofed, I’ve yet to spot any errors that have slipped through [something which seems to be the bane of all LEGO-related publishing at the moment]。I spent a while brooding over whether to settle on a four or five star rating for this book。 It’s practically flawless, minus that one complaint about some of the photography sizing choices。 I clipped a star off in the end, simply because some of those impressive scenery set-ups are crying for a closer nosey, and it defies the point of an art book if I’m going online to ‘look’ at it。 。。。more
