Summary

Dating Dr。 Dil features a love-phobic TV doctor who must convince a love-obsessed homebody they are destined to be together。

Kareena Mann dreams of having a love story like her parents, but she prefers restoring her classic car to swiping right on dating apps。 When her father announces he’s selling her mother’s home, Kareena makes a deal with him: he’ll gift her the house if she can get engaged in four months。 Her search for her soulmate becomes impossible when her argument with Dr。 Prem Verma, host of The Dr。 Dil Show, goes viral。 Now the only man in her life is the one she doesn’t want。

Dr。 Prem Verma is dedicated to building a local community health center, but he needs to get donors with deep pockets。 The Dr。 Dil Show was doing just that, until his argument with Kareena went viral, and he’s left short changed。 That’s when Kareena’s meddling aunties presented him with a solution: convince Kareena he’s her soulmate and they’ll fund his clinic。

Even though they have conflicting views on love-matches and arranged-matches, the more time Prem spends with Kareena, the more he begins to believe she’s the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with。 But for Prem and Kareena to find their happily ever after, they must admit that hate has turned into fate。

It was laugh-out-loud hilarious through and through。 It’s one of those books that you’re reading with a grin permanently plastered to your face。 There are so many fantastic characters to fall in love with。 The dual POV was *chef’s kiss*。 I’ll be swooning over Kareena and Prem for the foreseeable future。 Their chemistry was instantaneous and palpable。 The tension? Are you kidding me?! I loved Rina as the confident, self-assured heroine not afraid to demand what she wants in life and not willing to settle for less。 Now Prem - though initially a work in progress - was quite the generous love interest。 When that slowburn hits to spice, it got HOT! Both of them had some fantastic character development and growth。 [My only complaint about this story is Charlie。 IYKYN。 No thank you。]I’ve read a few Desi romances and I greatly enjoy being enveloped by the richness of the culture。 The loyalty of their family unit always tugs at my heartstrings。 I think it’s incredibly beautiful to experience even in passing through a story。 I really appreciate how much Nisha shared with us。 Fake dating reigns supreme。 I’ll be taking no criticism on the matter。 I don’t care how predictable the HEA is going to be— I LOVE IT! Nisha blew me away with this one and I’ll be so excited to see what comes next。 Thank you to Avon, NetGalley, and Nisha for my eARC in exchange for my honest review。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

I have been on such a lucky streak with reading good books lately! Dating Dr。 Dil was a cute romance that had me swooning the whole time。 I can’t even tell you how many times I had to put my phone down because I was blushing so hard。 Prem and Kareena were so good together!!!! I loved every single interaction they had together。 Really hoping we get to see their friends get their own stories too (especially Bobbi and Bunty!)Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for the eARC!!

Or, will Prem reconsider his views on love?Kareena and Prem had great chemistry both inside and outside the bedroom。 I loved Kareena as a character and it wasn't only because she's a fellow Swiftie。 Although her family constantly demeans her, Kareena never gives up on her beliefs and fights for everything she loves。 This was a little unnerving to read but Kareena was not alone as she had some amazing friends。 Later on, we also see Prem stand up for her against her family and that was delightful to watch。Prem is not at all a 'desi fuckboy' which Kareena calls him but his only imperfection is that he has outdated theories on love。 This idea generally stems from the fact that his parents have a love marriage or so they have told him but he has never witnessed them saying those three simple words to each other or him。 Kareena, on the other hand, has witnessed the love her parents had before her mother passed away and wants it for herself but her family ridicules her for it at every moment。 I would have loved to see some growth in any of Kareena's family members but we never got around to it。 There's also a lady Whistledown like character who writes advice columns for desi couples but it didn't add any value to the story。Overall, I loved the romance and the drama! I love the aunties who weren’t the stereotypical ones as you see in media and reality。 I would have loved this book more if it also turned around another stereotype; Indians do consume meat, Hindus do that, and have beef as well。 Thanks to the publisher for a copy in exchange for my honest review! 。。。more

I loved this story! My favorite trope is the enemies-to-lovers, one where the characters argue and bicker their way into love。 There’s something wonderful about all that emotion fixated on each other until the stars align and it morphs into passion and love。 Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew embodies all that, for all that the sentiments regarding women are problematic。 It’s probably my least favorite of the great bard’s plays, since the whole point is for the “shrew” to submit and become pleasa I loved this story! I think I loved just about everything about this book。 My only complaint is that I don't think the marketing leans hard enough into this being a retelling of Taming of the Shrew。 I think without the framing of it being a 'Shrew' retelling, the first couple chapters might be a little rough as you watch how awful Kareena's family is to her (not that they redeem themselves overly much, but the framing helps)。 But her 'found family' - aunties, best friends, work that is meaningful - balance their ac I think I loved just about everything about this book。 My only complaint is that I don't think the marketing leans hard enough into this being a retelling of Taming of the Shrew。 I think without the framing of it being a 'Shrew' retelling, the first couple chapters might be a little rough as you watch how awful Kareena's family is to her (not that they redeem themselves overly much, but the framing helps)。 But her 'found family' - aunties, best friends, work that is meaningful - balance their actions and Sharma expertly weaves her immediate family's actions into a broader commentary on the experiences of immigrant families that gives it nuance and insight rather than just a one-dimensional device。 I found both leads to be endearing, real, and frustrating (in all the right ways to deliver the narrative) and the side characters did all the right things to make me love them and be impatient for their stories。 Excellent start to a new series。CW: death of a parent (off page, in the past), death of a previous partner (off page, in the past), emotional abuse from immediate family 。。。more

Kareena Mann has put finding her love match on the back burner while accomplishing her career goals。 But, now that something she loves is on the line, she’s more dedicated than ever to find the love of her life。 She’s opinionated, outspoken and driven to buck expectations and help people accomplish their goals。 I loved that she was a little sassy, independent and insistent that her standards weren’t too high even when everyone doubted her。 Prem forces her to constantly defend her opinions, but she never gives in。 Dr。 Prem Verma is a cardiologist, a South Asian local TV personality and a firm believer that love is detrimental to a marriage and to your health。 He’s up against the ropes to make his dream of opening a South Asian community clinic a reality but he needs a little help to make it happen。 He’s incredibly thoughtful, a great listener and a little clueless when it comes to feelings。 Kareena pulls him out of his comfort zone and forces him to confront some feelings and misconceptions he’s been holding on to for years。 I liked this take on a fake relationship - it kind of was and it kind of wasn’t and I enjoyed the back and forth between Kareena and Prem trying to figure it out。 From the very beginning, there’s no denying that their chemistry is outrageous - conversation flows so easily, their banter is great, they’re so steamy together and they really understand each other。 I wish there was an epilogue to see how these two were doing after their HEA, but hoping to see more of them in the next books in this series! My biggest problem with this book was Kareena’s family。 Not her aunties, but her father, sister and Dadi。 They treated Kareena like a doormat throughout the whole book in various ways - her father for not speaking to her about the house, her Dadi for her emotional blackmail and Bindu for taking advantage of her kindness while being a complete bridezilla。 I’m glad things ended up working out for them, but I was so frustrated for her the entire time。 The greatest moment in this book was when Prem took it upon himself to put Kareena’s family in their place - it was honest and epic and made me fall a little bit in love with him。I really enjoyed all of Kareena’s sweet but meddling aunties and Kareena and Prem’s friends。 Can’t wait to hopefully read their stories in the next books in this series! Thanks to NetGalley, Avon Books and Harper Voyager US for the ARC of this title! 。。。more

Putting aside for now at 20%, I’m super disappointed because I’ve seen so many good things but the writing style is not working for me at all。 The dialogue is so forced and cliched。 The characters are acting like they are five。 Can’t handle it。

Dating Dr Dill is the cute story of two people who want relationships for entirely different reasons。 Their connection is instant, but life and their own circumstances create "problems" that they have to work through and on themselves in order to overcome。 I enjoyed their family and friend connections。 I liked the light humor in what could have been a heavy handed story。 I loved Prem and how he pursued Kareena so sweetly and with determination。 Dating Dr Dill is the cute story of two people who want relationships for entirely different reasons。 Their connection is instant, but life and their own circumstances create "problems" that they have to work through and on themselves in order to overcome。 I enjoyed their family and friend connections。 I liked the light humor in what could have been a heavy handed story。 I loved Prem and how he pursued Kareena so sweetly and with determination。 。。。more

Thank you to Avon Books for sending an ARC to the bookstore I work at! I absolutely adored this novel。 As an South Asian-American, I never really see myself in romance novels outside of a few authors so any time I get the chance to read a desi romance novel, it makes me so happy。 I adore Kareena and Prem。 They have such fantastic banter throughout the book and their chemistry is clear from the start。 I also adore all the side characters and hope for more novels about Bobbi and Veera!

I really wanted to love this book。 And part of the reason I really wanted to love this book is because I related so hard to Kareena, single at 30, a lawyer, whose frankly toxic family thinks her entire value is wrapped up in her marital status。 I identified with a lot of that and maybe to the point that some of it was actually a bit triggering (I’m now in my 40s, happily married and all that but still, some of those emotional scars remain)。 I did not love Prem or his ongoing argument that love i I really wanted to love this book。 And part of the reason I really wanted to love this book is because I related so hard to Kareena, single at 30, a lawyer, whose frankly toxic family thinks her entire value is wrapped up in her marital status。 I identified with a lot of that and maybe to the point that some of it was actually a bit triggering (I’m now in my 40s, happily married and all that but still, some of those emotional scars remain)。 I did not love Prem or his ongoing argument that love isn’t real and one should marry for partnership and his continued dismissal of Kareena’s wishes。 And when he finally admits his true feelings at the end, it feels more like a Hail Mary pass than anything real。 I wish I had more of an investment in this pairing or in his feelings but ultimately, I didn’t。 Also, for some inexplicable reason, Prem kept referring to his erection as “Charlie” but there was no lead up or explanation for this and it was both weird and confusing。 Just call it an erection! It's as if his way is the only way that counts。) The story evolves into a discussion on what is love。 Is it actions and loyalty or is it hearing the words? The fun part is this is all set in a Southern Asian American community in New Jersey。 There are meddling matchmaking aunties and best friends who have your back。 And there is wonderful Asian food, clothing and other cultural references。 This is also a surprisingly steamy romp。 While they never actually fake-date they do spend time together and things can and do heat up quickly。 (Side note: she gives her health status for safe sex but he never does。) The book is entertaining complete with grand gestures and a potential HEA。 But I didn’t like that her family never sees their role in inflicting pain on her nor do they change or apologize for it。 It’s as if she gets her desi man therefor everything is okay。 I absolutely will read other books from the author and kudos to her taking on a Shakespeare inspired retelling。 But I’m going to stay with three stars because of my conflicting feelings for the characters and plot。 Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Collins for an eARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

A huge thank you to Avon Books for sending me an ARC!4。5🌟 4🌶 What I LOVED: This book was everything I love in a romance! The utter chaos that happened from the first chapters alone had me hooked immediately and I literally couldn’t put it down! The utter chaos that happened from the first chapters alone had me hooked immediately and I literally couldn’t put it down! This is the ultimate romcom for anyone who loves enemies to lovers, opposites attract romance starring a hero who believes love is an illusion and heroines dedicates her life to finding her true love。 It was interesting how this was inspired by Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew as well。What I LIKED: I was invested in Kareena and Prem’s love story from the moment they met, had a very public showdown and somehow ended up in an agreement to fake date for the sake of their reputation and money。 Despite their reluctance and their constant bickering over the love marriage vs arranged marriage discourse, their chemistry was just too strong! Making every moment together especially their dates, their sassy and sarcastic bantering so adorable。 The surprisingly steamy scenes between them had to be my favorite!Kareena was the epitome of strong, independent woman who is determined to have her own happily ever after。 I related so hard to her being a fellow romance reader, Swfitie and eldest daughter in an Asian household。 I love how she’s never afraid to voice out what she deserves and to be her genuine self no matter how much people encouraged her to compromise to other perople’s preferences。 The way she would fight for her love for her mother and the things she left behind made me teary eyed at times! Then comes Prem, love-phobic TV doctor known as Dr。 Dil! He checks all the boxes in being the perfect boyfriend but it’s sad how he thinks love is fake and irrelevant in relationships。 I love how despite his strong beliefs against love, he can’t help but be the ultimate simp for Kareena。 His journey towards realizing that love might not be as fake and scary as he thought it was was relatable (I say this as a member of an Asian household who barely shows affection through words)This has equally fun side characters as well! Between both of Kareena and Prem’s family, there wasn’t a shortage of drama and chaos。 Kareena’s aunties were so much fun to be with despite all the meddling and pushing to date。 Both of their friend groups were the best, they were all so witty and supportive! With all the side romance brewing from her alone, I’m extra excited for their books next。I’ve been enjoying beeing immersed in all the South Asian culture and traditions in this! It’s so eye opening and fascinating learning about it more and my mouth waters from all the food mentioned。Also, there was a Lady Whistledown-like character in this named Mrs。 W。 S。 Gupta! I loved her entries and I’m so intrigued to find out who they are。Lastly, there’s a playlist at the end filled with Taylor’s songs for all fellow Swifities! The references in this book were spot on。What I DIDN’T ENJOY: As someone who is in their early 20s and hasn’t dated, I feel the pressure as well of everything pushing me to date when I want to focus on myself first so all the struggles, teasing and misogynistic comments against her were painfully relatable。 This book also convinced me further that men are trash and the AUDACITY some have are beyond my comprehension。THIS BOOK IS PERFECT IF YOU LOVE:• steamy enemies to lovers and opposites attract romance (hero doesn’t believe in love vs heroine who wants true love)• Shakespeare retellings• family drama • South Asian rep 。。。more

Phew! This was a LOT steamier than I expected it to be, and I ain’t mad about it。 This book is rich with South Asian culture, customs, and traditions, with a lot of talk centred around love versus arranged marriage。 I thought Rina and Prem had great chemistry and found the book perfectly bingeable, even if I wasn’t a huge fan of the authors writing style。 4 ⭐️

I have kind of been on a contemporary Indian kick since Spring of 2020。 I have found the culture fascinating to read about。 As with any book, though, you don't know the content until you've read it。 I can say upfront that Dating Dr。 Dil had more descriptive scenes than I prefer。 The word "smut" came to mind a few times。 And it's kind of a shame in my mind because the rest of the story was worthy enough to stand on its own without the "extra。" But I know there are many readers who really enjoy th I have kind of been on a contemporary Indian kick since Spring of 2020。 I have found the culture fascinating to read about。 As with any book, though, you don't know the content until you've read it。 I can say upfront that Dating Dr。 Dil had more descriptive scenes than I prefer。 The word "smut" came to mind a few times。 And it's kind of a shame in my mind because the rest of the story was worthy enough to stand on its own without the "extra。" But I know there are many readers who really enjoy the exact thing I'm complaining about。Kareena put her dating life on hold to accomplish her career goals and now she's turning thirty and feeling lonely。 It doesn't help that her younger sister is getting married and her father and grandmother have started to get pushy。 Kareena's father drops the bomb that he's planning to retire and sell their house, the one that Kareena's mother designed and Kareena loves。 She wants to buy it from him, but she doesn't have the money。 He would give her the money for a downpayment on a house if she were engaged though。Prem is a practicing doctor that also hosts a television show on a South Asian TV network geared towards bringing awareness to issues specific to the South Asian community。 He ultimately wants to open a community health center, but he needs funding from investors to make it happen。 After he and Kareena go viral having an argument over whether or not love exists or is an illusion, one of his investors backs out。 Prem needs to prove his family-oriented attitude to this investor。 So he comes up with the idea for these two to fake get engaged to both get the financial backing they need。I liked that Kareena and Prem didn't actually fake date。 They contemplated it。 And they spent some time getting to know one another while Prem tried to convince Kareena to try his plan。 Kareena is intent on marrying for love and since Prem can't give her what she's looking for, she can't bring herself to give up on the idea。 So she's still trying to find the right match for herself。I really liked these two and the journeys that each needed to go on in order to come together。 I also liked the side characters。 I'm torn on continuing the series。 Because on the one hand, I liked the side characters enough to want to see each get a chance at a happily ever after, but I also don't really want more smut which I imagine will be included in future books。The only highlighting I really did was over errors in the galley version I read。 Pronoun shifts, the wrong name mentioned once or twice, the wrong word, etc。 I'm sure these things will be corrected in the final copy。I liked Dating Dr。 Dil。 It hit the spot when I was interested in a book that I hoped I would finish quickly。 My contemporary Indian craving was satisfied for a while。 And I am both looking forward to and dreading future books in the series。 Dating Dr。 Dil gets 4 Stars。 Have you read Dating Dr。 Dil? What did you think? Let me know! 。。。more

Dating Dr。 Dil is a contemporary retelling of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, with a South Asian spin set in New Jersey! It is a wonderful enemies-to-lovers that has humor, heart, and heat! It has all the ingredients for a rom-com: a gaggle of over-the-top aunties, ride-or-die best friends, a swoony love interest, familial drama, and off-the-charts sexual tension and banter。Kareena Mann needs to find a man - ideally her soulmate - so that she can get the inheritance she needs to buy her h Dating Dr。 Dil is a contemporary retelling of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, with a South Asian spin set in New Jersey! It has all the ingredients for a rom-com: a gaggle of over-the-top aunties, ride-or-die best friends, a swoony love interest, familial drama, and off-the-charts sexual tension and banter。Kareena Mann needs to find a man - ideally her soulmate - so that she can get the inheritance she needs to buy her house from her father, which she can only get if she's engaged。 She thinks she's hit the jackpot the night of her thirtieth birthday, when she meets Prem Verma at a bar - he's incredibly good looking, they talk for hours, he says all the right things, and their physical attraction is HOT。。。 until he leaves her in the lurch。 The next time she sees him is at a taping for a local South Asian talk show with Dr。 Dil - the love doctor - with her sister, where Kareena learns Prem's actually a doctor that doesn't believe in true love。 They get into a massive public argument which ends up being broadcast, and neither of them look good coming out of the situation。 Now Kareena's chances for finding her love match in time to buy her house is even worse than it was before, and Prem's lost the investors he needs in order to open the community center he's been trying to fund and build for years。 Realizing that if they can just put their differences aside, they'll be able to help each other achieve their goals with a little deception - A FAKE ENGAGEMENT! But we all know what happens in a fake relationship。。。This book really had it all - the mutual pining, the heat and sexual tension (those scenes were HOT!), the family drama, the aunty hi-jinks。 Loved almost everything about this book。。。。 except I'm never going to be a fan of the third-act breakup scene (sorry!)。 But it did feel necessary and was resolved well, so I can't hold it against the overall book too much。 I hope this turns into a series so we can see what happens with the rest of Kareena's and Prem's friends! 。。。more

So fun! She hated him, the jerk。 He hated her, the brat。 Two educated, talented people get off on the wrong foot, shall we say, and might need all the aunties to help them see differently。 Engrossing, funny, and wonderfully written don’t miss this one。 Full review to follow。 😊
