Summary

Excellent book, extremely well written and his points were well supported and articulated。 I would recommend this to anyone looking to get more out of their day and life。

It's a book provided the importance of deep work to achieve outstanding results。 My key takeaway is the importance of being focus allows the neurological paths for a skill to develop faster than if we get interrupted。Furthermore, the importance of nature sounds for a better concentration。 It's a book provided the importance of deep work to achieve outstanding results。 My key takeaway is the importance of being focus allows the neurological paths for a skill to develop faster than if we get interrupted。Furthermore, the importance of nature sounds for a better concentration。 。。。more

I read this book in the midst of confusion in my life。 I heard from Hindz (a content creater) talking about this book as one of his favorite books in one of his Podcasts。 It was a quick read yet rather a life-changing one。 By now, knowing that it came out in 2016, probably almost everyone has heard of something that is written in this book。 But still, reading this was a great reminder for me, how I could focus better, if I miss something to get into the zone so I would improve my knowledge manag I read this book in the midst of confusion in my life。 I heard from Hindz (a content creater) talking about this book as one of his favorite books in one of his Podcasts。 It was a quick read yet rather a life-changing one。 By now, knowing that it came out in 2016, probably almost everyone has heard of something that is written in this book。 But still, reading this was a great reminder for me, how I could focus better, if I miss something to get into the zone so I would improve my knowledge management。 。。。more

Thought provoking book that really gives solid insight in the failings of my current way of working。 It also provides good and realistic steps to try to incorporate deep and thoughtful work into your life。 Now let's see if I actually will manage to do this, but the book made enough a compelling case that I feel obligated to seriously try! Based on my first impression though, I highly recommend this book! Deep Work contains a central thesis: deep work creates disproportionately more value than shallow work, for modern knowledge workers。 The rest is about strategies for maximizing time and depth of deep work。 I am sold on the central thesis。 I also appreciated many of the strategies, and look forward to systematically applying selected ones in my own work。The writing quality is pretty good too。

Cal has great insight into the damage our current quick-click; all-consuming connections have rendered to our overwhelmed mental capacity。 The good news is he also provides a detailed and practical remedy。 I highly recommend this book for anyone who knows they could produce works of value, if only they could find the time and focus。

Deep Work is the second book by Cal Newport that I've read。 I'd recommend to read So Good They Can't Ignore You before this, as the two complement each other really well。The overall book is like most self-help books。 There's plenty of vague advice and a lot of it is discussed to death。 But if you pick and choose what you apply, this book has a lot to offer。There's a lot of productive tidbits you can extract and if you're not already a hermit like me, it might even change your life。I didn't have Deep Work is the second book by Cal Newport that I've read。 I'd recommend to read So Good They Can't Ignore You before this, as the two complement each other really well。The overall book is like most self-help books。 There's plenty of vague advice and a lot of it is discussed to death。 But if you pick and choose what you apply, this book has a lot to offer。There's a lot of productive tidbits you can extract and if you're not already a hermit like me, it might even change your life。I didn't have much to gain since I've been implementing the secluded deep work mentality for a while, but I did learn some new tricks that will help me out for sure。Highly recommended for anyone that wants to add more productivity to their work hours。 。。。more

I picked up this book knowing what it would offer。 But as I read through, there were more than a couple of instances where I thought about the way I was approaching my work。 I would definitely give this a second read as I am sure it provides a good value even then。 Good book。

Was going to rate 1 star because he basically wrote a book on how to be a socially-crippled loser, but there is some good advice here n there。I like the bit about conditional overflow blocks on your calendar, where you schedule in a block with two options: A。 Continue the last task (bc you haven't finished yet) or B。 Start a new task。 I've been using that idea since reading it in this book。 Also this book made me refocus on being proactive by actually authoring my day。 Time gets wasted by defaul Was going to rate 1 star because he basically wrote a book on how to be a socially-crippled loser, but there is some good advice here n there。I like the bit about conditional overflow blocks on your calendar, where you schedule in a block with two options: A。 Continue the last task (bc you haven't finished yet) or B。 Start a new task。 I've been using that idea since reading it in this book。 Also this book made me refocus on being proactive by actually authoring my day。 Time gets wasted by default, and I have no boss or anything, so my whole life depends on me whipping myself out of passivity。 This book has helped with that。 But seriously, while the main thesis makes sense (deep work does make life better), his "methods" are laughable。 Literally everyone learns in primary school that it's possible to just no life something, spend zero time socialising, and get good grades。 People generally don't do this, not because they're unaware of this method, but because they enjoy connecting with others。 I found it funny that Mr。 Newport spends a good chunk of a book explaining this method as if it's a genius new idea。 。。。more

This book was pretty boring and repetitive。 It could have been much, much shorter, considering it’s from an author who gives importance on time。 The advice doesn’t exactly work for everyone。 Key takeaways though is to value your time, have a routine, and set up an environment that allows you to do deep work - however that may work for you。

this book perfectly illustrates the power of concentration and some practical ways to implement it。 However some of the techniques suggested are highly impractical unless you are a big shot who can afford continues weeks of thinking。 Nevertheless if you want to get more work out of the same number of hours that you have at hand, the tips suggested here might prove to be extremely helpful。
