The book is exactly what it claims to be。

It really said "condensed", huh。Great to see the overall picture of history, not much beyond surface level though, but I suppose that was the purpose of the book。 :) It really said "condensed", huh。Great to see the overall picture of history, not much beyond surface level though, but I suppose that was the purpose of the book。 :) 。。。more

What it says in the cover, bite size。 Unfortunately you can't cram that much history into a book this size。 It makes it near impossible to understand or absorb any of the information unless you already have an indepth background knowledge of the entire worlds history 。 It's essentially like reading a book in a foreign language that you do not speak。 What it says in the cover, bite size。 Unfortunately you can't cram that much history into a book this size。 It makes it near impossible to understand or absorb any of the information unless you already have an indepth background knowledge of the entire worlds history 。 It's essentially like reading a book in a foreign language that you do not speak。 。。。more

This book gets 5 stars for its cover and maybe 3 stars for being an interesting read/quick overview of world history with too much focus on multiple wars。

I learned a lot from this book and it was yet another reminder at how crap the English school system is at teaching us about the world。 I spent many years learning about castles and not a single one learning about the contents of this book that wasn't related to WWI or WWII。One of my biggest gripes with this book is that the Aborignal and First Nations people of US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia (and I'm sure others) aren't mentioned until the points at which Europe interacts with them。 You I learned a lot from this book and it was yet another reminder at how crap the English school system is at teaching us about the world。 I spent many years learning about castles and not a single one learning about the contents of this book that wasn't related to WWI or WWII。One of my biggest gripes with this book is that the Aborignal and First Nations people of US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia (and I'm sure others) aren't mentioned until the points at which Europe interacts with them。 You learn absolutely nothing of their histories which is a complete fail in my opinion。 。。。more

i'd bought this book in 2019, in order to study for a big exam comprising all of middle school history。 i ended up not reading it back then, and i studied through other means。 i'm very glad i didn't read this back then, because it would have confused me more than it would have helped。 this book does a good job at what it promises to do: it's very fast。 it's a revision。 it's the little bits you'd put in flash cards。 if you've studied the subjects already and just want to remember, this is a good i'd bought this book in 2019, in order to study for a big exam comprising all of middle school history。 i ended up not reading it back then, and i studied through other means。 i'm very glad i didn't read this back then, because it would have confused me more than it would have helped。 this book does a good job at what it promises to do: it's very fast。 it's a revision。 it's the little bits you'd put in flash cards。 if you've studied the subjects already and just want to remember, this is a good choice。 if you're wanting to learn history, then definitely steer away from this book。 i barely grasped anything from the beginning of the book until midway through it, because a lot of it wasn't ever taught in any school i went to。 we mostly just learned about europe, which is ridiculous。 having said that, i understood/remembered way more towards the end of the book, because it's things i'd studied a lot in school。 at first, i was sure this would be a 2-star read, but the end added an extra star to my rating。 so, if you know about all the things this book mentions, and you just want to remember some general stuff, this is great。 another thing i don't really love about this book is how much it focuses on how maps have changed。 how one civilization conquered another one, how this territory became that one。 it talks a lot about wars and about how they changed the territory (countries-wise), and that is, to say the least, not my favorite thing to learn in history。 i'd have appreciated it way more if it'd talked about the cultures, how the civilization worked, what they contributed to the world, etc。 i just think that would have been way more interesting。 。。。more

The title is entirely accurate! I've somehow managed to not take a world history class yet in my life and this book highlighted a lot of interesting things that I never knew happened。 It, like most books, provides greater detail in European affairs than the rest of the world but none the less lives up to the title。 The title is entirely accurate! This book does what it says on the tin。 I read it because I felt my knowledge of (especially non european) pre 1800 history was abysmal, and I suppose it’s helped me in that regard to an extent。 It’s fairly dry, and I do feel that despite the minimal efforts to include the whole world in its short run it still feels fairly Eurocentric。 I doubt much of the stuff in here will stick in my head, unfortunately, and to be honest I think it’s probably an impossibly counterproductive exercise to try and This book does what it says on the tin。 I read it because I felt my knowledge of (especially non european) pre 1800 history was abysmal, and I suppose it’s helped me in that regard to an extent。 It’s fairly dry, and I do feel that despite the minimal efforts to include the whole world in its short run it still feels fairly Eurocentric。 I doubt much of the stuff in here will stick in my head, unfortunately, and to be honest I think it’s probably an impossibly counterproductive exercise to try and condense the whole width of human history into less than 200 pages。 Nevertheless, I do feel slightly more competent with my knowledge of general history, so I’ll have to grant that to this book。 。。。more

This book delivers what it promises: The History of the World in Bite-sized Chunks。This book gives you an over-view of the history of the world from the first signs of civilisation to the end of the second World War, and not just centred on Europe, but the entire world and its people。It doesn't go in to too much detail but if you just want to have an idea about when the most important events happened and where, this is a great book。 This book delivers what it promises: The History of the World in Bite-sized Chunks。This book gives you an over-view of the history of the world from the first signs of civilisation to the end of the second World War, and not just centred on Europe, but the entire world and its people。It doesn't go in to too much detail but if you just want to have an idea about when the most important events happened and where, this is a great book。 。。。more

Great refresher on history。 Small bite sized bits is helpful though it’s a lot to read at a time。 Otherwise you’ll blend things together。 Otherwise solid read for anyone looking for a history refresh。

Paul Battisson

A great little book that is a whistle stop tour of everything。 Not too long and very snappy as a nice light read。

This was really interesting and a great place to start for me。 One or two things bothered me, like badly worded sentences here and there and the constant use of "Holland" when they meant "The Netherlands"。 But besides those, this was great, highly recommended。 This was really interesting and a great place to start for me。 One or two things bothered me, like badly worded sentences here and there and the constant use of "Holland" when they meant "The Netherlands"。 But besides those, this was great, highly recommended。 。。。more

It’s what it says it is: an account of historical events。 I liked the format, an organized way to make the material manageable and easy to read in chucks。 I thought it left out important events, though, especially in Yugoslavia history。

It was pretty good but as a Canadian, I was disappointed that Vimy Ridge wasn’t even mentioned in the section about World War 1。 The author also completely left out Canada’s contributions during both world wars which is silly because many Canadian men and women risked their lives to fight for their allies。 Other than that, it was an alright book。 It did what it was supposed to which was to give the reader a general knowledge of the history of the world。

I'm impressed with how comprehensive this book managed to be about the entire history of the world in such a small number of pages。 This is definitely an extremely useful reference, although probably not meant to be read cover to cover like what I did。 This would be a great companion to read alongside books like Guns, Germs, and Steel because it'll help you track world events as they are explained in that book。 A super useful book for anyone who just wants a quick rundown or reminder about some I'm impressed with how comprehensive this book managed to be about the entire history of the world in such a small number of pages。 This is definitely an extremely useful reference, although probably not meant to be read cover to cover like what I did。 This would be a great companion to read alongside books like Guns, Germs, and Steel because it'll help you track world events as they are explained in that book。 A super useful book for anyone who just wants a quick rundown or reminder about some points in history, but is by no means meant to be read by itself if you want more complete coverage。 。。。more

Well organized, easy to pick up and put down, and gives a lot of good context。 Keeping on my shelf to refer back to whenever I have that, "what was the name of that empire again?" moment。 Well organized, easy to pick up and put down, and gives a lot of good context。 Keeping on my shelf to refer back to whenever I have that, "what was the name of that empire again?" moment。 。。。more
