Summary

Matilda is a little girl who is far too good to be true。 At age five-and-a-half she's knocking off double-digit multiplication problems and blitz-reading Dickens。 Even more remarkably, her classmates love her even though she's a super-nerd and the teacher's pet。 But everything is not perfect in Matilda's world。 For starters she has two of the most idiotic, self-centered parents who ever lived。 Then there's the large, busty nightmare of a school principal, Mrs。 ("The") Trunchbull, a former hammer-throwing champion who flings children at will and is approximately as sympathetic as a bulldozer。 Fortunately for Matilda, she has the inner resources to deal with such annoyances: astonishing intelligence, saintly patience, and an innate predilection for revenge。

She warms up with some practical jokes aimed at her hapless parents, but the true test comes when she rallies in defense of her teacher, the sweet Miss Honey, against the diabolical Trunchbull。 There is never any doubt that Matilda will carry the day。 Even so, this wonderful story is far from predictable。 Roald Dahl, while keeping the plot moving imaginatively, also has an unerring ear for emotional truth。 The reader cares about Matilda because in addition to all her other gifts, she has real feelings。

The best children's book of all time。 Dahl paints his masterpiece bringing the reader into the magical world of Matilda。 This classic is my all time favorite and is absolutely timeless。 The best children's book of all time。 Dahl paints his masterpiece bringing the reader into the magical world of Matilda。 This classic is my all time favorite and is absolutely timeless。 。。。more

That moment。。。。。。when the first glass tipped。My kids' eyes became huge - whites showing all around。 Their heads both snapped in my direction to confirm that I read that right。 Two young faces - full of wonder, full of surprise, full of satisfaction。That moment is the magic of a darn good book。 Something the flashiest, loudest special effects could never duplicate。Pure enchantment。That moment was perfection。5 stars for that moment。 That moment。。。。。。when the first glass tipped。My kids' eyes became huge - whites showing all around。 Their heads both snapped in my direction to confirm that I read that right。 Two young faces - full of wonder, full of surprise, full of satisfaction。That moment is the magic of a darn good book。 Something the flashiest, loudest special effects could never duplicate。Pure enchantment。That moment was perfection。5 stars for that moment。 。。。more

This book has quite some emotions attached to it。 I first read this book when I was in Class 7, borrowing it from my school library, and was starting to become a literal book worm。 I still remember opening this book right inside in the bus and sitting down with it as soon as I reached home。 This book, very very subtly highlights the power of knowledge, how much it is underrated, love and ignorance, finding your own happiness and so much more。 This is a must read, I promise you won't regret it! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Se lee rápido, los capítulos son cortos y entretenidos。Amo la ilustración realizada por Sir Quentin Blake 💙💙💙💙💙💙Lo que no me gustó es su vocabulario tan pesado, considero que para menores de edad se requiere la supervisión de una persona adulta responsable para abarcar dudas。No es por dramática, pero el tema de la autoeliminación nunca debería ser visto a la ligera, aunque sea mencionado brevemente。

I can't believe it has taken me so long to read this book。 "Matilda" by Roald Dahl, is a classic for a reason。 Another work that proves children's books are not just for children。 I have seen the Danny Devito movie based on the book countless times but I never expected to like it as much because of the mechanics, I guess。 I was not only laughing outloud while reading it, or in my case, listening to it。 Daul writes with such vivacity you would not need the pictures in the book。 "Matilda" by Roal I can't believe it has taken me so long to read this book。 "Matilda" by Roald Dahl, is a classic for a reason。 Another work that proves children's books are not just for children。 I have seen the Danny Devito movie based on the book countless times but I never expected to like it as much because of the mechanics, I guess。 I was not only laughing outloud while reading it, or in my case, listening to it。 Daul writes with such vivacity you would not need the pictures in the book。 "Matilda" by Roald Dahl, is about a very lonely, charming, precocious little girl, Matilda Wormwood, who after teaching herself to read at a very young age, finds comfort in books。 Not being able to bond with her family, she bonds with her teacher, Ms。 Honey and a few other children from her class。 With the help of her newfound friends and superpowers she questions if all of these things are enough to tackle certain fears: her family and school principal, Ms。Trunchbull。 When I was younger I thought the key message was don't underestimate kids but now I understand the book is a warning for people who snob bibliophiles。 Just kidding but not really。 Knowledge being a key aspect of survival, is the takeaway。 It makes sense why Dahl's work has stood the test of time, I think。 This book makes me want to name my next cat Matilda。 :) 。。。more

Always a great read and really advocates for you to pay attention to the children (much like other Dahl books)

Revisiting old books that I used to enjoy as a child。A fun one, to be sure。 Roald Dahl does a great job with setting up extremely 2-D characters and then having them set up ridiculous story situations only to satirize it all [whether it's cheap car salesmen, overly authoritarian teachers, or negligent parents]。 The only reason he gets away with it so easily is due to this being a children's book。 Of course, it has the modern fairy tale ending with the overly positive ending - something similar t Revisiting old books that I used to enjoy as a child。A fun one, to be sure。 Roald Dahl does a great job with setting up extremely 2-D characters and then having them set up ridiculous story situations only to satirize it all [whether it's cheap car salesmen, overly authoritarian teachers, or negligent parents]。 The only reason he gets away with it so easily is due to this being a children's book。 Of course, it has the modern fairy tale ending with the overly positive ending - something similar to an early Walt Disney tale。 Miss Honey is too nice and good to be true, I think, as a real person。I think Dahl inherited Dickin's genius for naming and creating characters, and that's actually much more enjoyable to read in a short children's book as compared to an overly bloated Victorian novel about serious social issues。 That's because you only have 150-200 pages of it, so there's less room for filler than there would be in a typical Dickens outing。 But think about it -- the Wormwoods, the Trunchbull, Bruce Bogtrotter, Hortensia [!], etc。 Some authors just have a knack for naming people。I'd definitely recommend this as a book to be put on an elementary school child's reading list, but it's certainly not a profound or deep book in any sense of the word。 Then again, I don't think Dahl meant it to be serious in that way。 。。。more

I like the beginning where he describes children and calls people scabs。 It was very entertaining and a fun quick read。 I like how miss honey lives。 I’ll have to watch the movie again。

For example: the whole scene in the movie where Matilda and Miss Honey sneak into Miss Trunchbull house was not even in the book! I was shocked, but at the same time that scene gave me a lot of anxiety so I did not mind it missing! One change I noticed that was in the book and not the movie was there was a part with a bird being kept in the fireplace to scare Matildas parents, and then the ending was a bit different as Matilda does not go back to her house when her parents are frantically trying to skip town! Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and was glad I read it even though I’m 24! I do have to say that I think I like the movie a bit better than the book (which is really rare for me to say), but it was still a good story that I’ll always hold near and dear to my heart❤️ 。。。more
