Summary

From the authors of The New York Times bestsellers Empty Bottles Full of Stories and Falling Toward the Moon comes a brand-new collection of compelling poetry and prose。

There's a harshness in the air; the season is changing its colors。 The rain is chilled, icy to the touch, and the sky, filled with melancholy。 Your search for warmth has brought you here; you starve for something profound。 You require something that will resonate with your soul。 Despite how cold, you're determined to grow。 And with these words, you bloom, a winter rose。

A few quotable phrases but a lot of it felt repetitive and surface level。 I liked r。h Sins longer poems but the shorter things kinda read like a fortune cookie

Brittany

I felt seen reading this。 🤩

This book was good and nice, Plain and simple。 The concepts were not novel but they were relatable。 Most of the writing was very straightforward and the point。 For me to rate it higher I would have liked more word play or imagery。 I personally just prefer my poetry pretty。 Just because it wasn’t pretty doesn’t mean it wasn’t good。 I think that there’s lots of good that can be usurped from this book。

This collection felt like an exhale。

If there was ever a time to read this book, it’s definitely in the middle of winter。 It’s a reminder that even when it’s cold, a flower (like you) can still grow。

3。5⭐️I liked the overall book but I did prefer Robert M。 Drake’s poems to r。h。 Sin’s。 It kind of lost me near the end because I did like the first half more but it was still enjoyable!!

Robert M。 Drake was easy to read。 However R。H。 Sin's long poems were just super dry and boring for me。 Drake is the reason for the high review。 Robert M。 Drake was easy to read。 However R。H。 Sin's long poems were just super dry and boring for me。 Drake is the reason for the high review。 。。。more

I've enjoyed poems from both poets before so decided on a whim to give this collection a go。 While this collection definitely has a theme (heartache and the end of relationships) that I can't really relate to at this point in my life, I can see how this would have been a hit with me in my late teens/early 20s when I didn't have what I have now。 Still, there were a few poems in here that were more about personal growth and I did really enjoy those。Overall, a well curated collection that would hav I've enjoyed poems from both poets before so decided on a whim to give this collection a go。 While this collection definitely has a theme (heartache and the end of relationships) that I can't really relate to at this point in my life, I can see how this would have been a hit with me in my late teens/early 20s when I didn't have what I have now。 Still, there were a few poems in here that were more about personal growth and I did really enjoy those。Overall, a well curated collection that would have been more enjoyable for me at a different time in my life。 Definitely one to gift a friend going through a rough breakup! 。。。more

This book sounded more like fortune cookie readings than poetry。

Was very disappointed by Rober M。 Drakes portion of this book, and disliked that to read R。H。 Sins you have to own both。 I felt the first half of the book had little to no flow。 The formatting seemed to be ridged, followed even when the words demanded something different。 Reading the lines as they are punctuated and layed out creates a severely disjointed feel。Part 2 was what I expected, train of thought almost self help/motivational speeches。 I felt a few may have seemed very repetitive but enj Was very disappointed by Rober M。 Drakes portion of this book, and disliked that to read R。H。 Sins you have to own both。 I felt the first half of the book had little to no flow。 The formatting seemed to be ridged, followed even when the words demanded something different。 Reading the lines as they are punctuated and layed out creates a severely disjointed feel。Part 2 was what I expected, train of thought almost self help/motivational speeches。 I felt a few may have seemed very repetitive but enjoyed the messages and the raw words, it's as if a friend is speaking to you after a few drinks, having a heart to heart。 。。。more

A few poems really hit home, but there was a lot I couldn’t connect with — I’m not complaining about that, though。

There were a lot of things that I didn’t agree with coming from Robert M Drake, but also some things that I really enjoyed to read。 I felt like there was some contradictory going on between self love, and loving others。 It’s hard to explain without reading it。 But r。h Sin delivered so many meaningful messages though, and that portion I really enjoyed reading。

Ohhh how dreadful。。。🤦

This book was very disappointing。 Felt very “predictable Facebook quote” it was so hard for me to stay engaged。 Also extremely melancholy about heartbreak through the whole book & practically no “rose” after fall。 This book wouldn’t even hit hard if I was heartbroken。

Tim Doc

I was gifted this book by a dear friend for Christmas so automatically I have some love for books that come into my collection from loved ones。 The poetry is quite raw and vulnerable for both halves。 I’m at a certain point in my life where lots of parts are moving so I appreciated the insight on someone else’s spirals, as well as poems that include affirmations I can tell myself。 Definitely an autumnal/winter read。

Suzanne

These poems elict so much emotion。 If you have been in love with someone you can not have, have tried to return to an ex-lover, or struggled with a difficult past, you will enjoy this book and think a lot about where life has taken you and the choices you have made and the better choices you could make in the future。

I really enjoyed this read and definitely will be re-reading this multiple times。 There was a lot of meaning within each poem and I enjoyed the story told as you read each poem。 Not to mention the different point of views between the two writers。 I am just getting into reading poetry and this definitely made me want to read more from both of these authors。

Niya Davis

This was by far one of my favorite poetry books。 It was raw, honest, and captivating。 10 out of 10 would recommend。

Kendal Clawson

Beautiful words without much variety。

Tarrah Coonts

This book was so, so profound。 I saw pieces of myself on each page, and each author brought a rawness to the collection that is unmatched by other poets。 I was reminded of important lessons in life and love throughout。 This work truly was magnificent。

Winter Roses after Fall was a topical read for me。 The poems by both Drake and Sin are brief and episodic。 Still, I wanted more from this collection。 A huge roadblock for me was how specific some (most?) of the poems were written to be。 I felt as though Drake and Sin opted out of capturing the feelings and emotionality of heartbreak in order to allow for an explicit explanation of their specific experiences。 At times, this felt like looking behind the curtain—the magic of poetry was dulled by a Winter Roses after Fall was a topical read for me。 The poems by both Drake and Sin are brief and episodic。 Still, I wanted more from this collection。 A huge roadblock for me was how specific some (most?) of the poems were written to be。 I felt as though Drake and Sin opted out of capturing the feelings and emotionality of heartbreak in order to allow for an explicit explanation of their specific experiences。 At times, this felt like looking behind the curtain—the magic of poetry was dulled by a constant inclination towards confessionalism。 I did find a few poems that I enjoyed, though not necessarily because of their writing。 Rather, there are little blurbs of helpful advice and offerings of perspective。 This could be read as a late-night text exchange between friends who are both still "getting it all out" after a breakup—some of it is relatable, but it falls short of sophistication。 。。。more

Beautifully written! Found a bit of myself on each page。

I liked the first half of the poems the second didn’t like the line spacing。 Felt like I was reading off a notes app。

I wish I would’ve read this sooner。 Geez。

5 stars to Robert M。 Drake but 3 stars to R。H。 sin。 So 4 stars :)R。H。 Sin’s short poems really really do it for me。 His long poems I find boring and struggle to keep my eyes open and his long poems are only 1 page long on my iPad sooooooooo
