Summary

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Godfather, this authorized, annotated and illustrated edition of the complete, unedited screenplay includes all the little-known facts, behind-the-scenes intrigue, and first-person reflections from cast and crew members on the making of this landmark film。
From its ingenious cinematic innovations and memorable, oft-quoted script to its iconic cast, including Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, James Caan, The Godfather is considered by many to be the greatest movie ever made。 And yet, the history of its making is so colorful, so chaotic, that one cannot help but marvel at the seemingly insurmountable odds it overcame to become a true cinematic masterpiece, and a film that continues to captivate its audience decades after its release。
In this annotated and illustrated edition of the complete original screenplay, nearly every scene is examined and dissected, including:

Fascinating commentary on technical details about the filming and shooting locations
Tales from the set, including arguments, accidents, and anecdotes
Profiles of the actors and stories of how they were cast
Deleted scenes that never made the final cut, and the goofs and gaffes that did
And much more

Interviews with former Paramount executives, cast and crew members, and and all-new foreword by Francis Ford Coppola, round out the commentary and shed new light on everything you thought you knew about this most influential film。 With more than 200 photographs, this a truly unique, collectable keepsake for every Godfather fan。

this had some cool insights and facts - good god making movies in Old Hollywood was stressful - but i mainly appreciated it because next time i watch the godfather i will now be able to understand everything that’s going on。 i’ve seen it twice and both times, significant chunks of the movie were lost on me。

Anti-Native ErrorI so enjoyed this book until the author made an extremely grave factual error about Sacheen Littlefeather who IS Native (White Mountain Apache) and an extremely respected member of the Native community。 To state that she was merely an actress paid to be Native for a night is a slap in the face to all Native filmmakers and extremely irresponsible and grossly anti-Native。

You must have this book if you are obsessed with "The Godfather" (the first film, not the sequels)。 It provides the whole script, with extra scenes that were cut or not filmed, plus loads and loads of trivia and behind-the-scenes information。Remove a star if you're not obsessed with "The Godfather"。 Then it's only four stars and worth your time to read, but maybe not own。If you are not even into movies 。。。 well, skip it。 But there's something wrong with you。 You must have this book if you are obsessed with "The Godfather" (the first film, not the sequels)。 It provides the whole script, with extra scenes that were cut or not filmed, plus loads and loads of trivia and behind-the-scenes information。Remove a star if you're not obsessed with "The Godfather"。 Then it's only four stars and worth your time to read, but maybe not own。If you are not even into movies 。。。 well, skip it。 But there's something wrong with you。 。。。more

Enhanced scriptI am not sure hownmuch, if any, overlapping information is here with the 'making of' documentary , as it's been a while since I've watched that。 I feel like I got a lot more new info in this book; lots of little tidbits that gave a fuller picture of the people involved, as well as the process。 I'm extremely satisfied with this purchase 。 i am docking one star, though , for Kindle formatting issues in one of the appendices listing the actors。 Enhanced scriptI am not sure hownmuch, if any, overlapping information is here with the 'making of' documentary , as it's been a while since I've watched that。 I feel like I got a lot more new info in this book; lots of little tidbits that gave a fuller picture of the people involved, as well as the process。 I'm extremely satisfied with this purchase 。 i am docking one star, though , for Kindle formatting issues in one of the appendices listing the actors。 。。。more

This hardback beast of a book is a real beauty。The COMPLETE shooting screenplay for Coppola's masterwork The Godfather is supplemented by continuous text, notes, illustrations, storyboards, interviews and anecdotes from cast and crew。 Not only is it a glorious celebration of the Mafia epic, it is a nuts and bolts schematic for how the movie came to be。It truly is an offer you shouldn't refuse! For fans of The Godfather, there may be no better book than this。 Little details that have major impact on understanding how filming decisions (direction, lighting, editing, script changes, setting and location issues, etc。) are covered, sometimes in more detail than one could imagine would exist。Coppola's various decisions and the day by day, scene by scene annotations provide insight into the film and expand the wonder of this cinematic gem。Back story and much of the mood of the entire shoot c For fans of The Godfather, there may be no better book than this。 Little details that have major impact on understanding how filming decisions (direction, lighting, editing, script changes, setting and location issues, etc。) are covered, sometimes in more detail than one could imagine would exist。Coppola's various decisions and the day by day, scene by scene annotations provide insight into the film and expand the wonder of this cinematic gem。Back story and much of the mood of the entire shoot can be found in this book。 I highly recommend it to fans of cinema, film-making, Coppola, and The Godfather。 。。。more

This is F Coppolas shooting script for The Goodfather , part 1。 It´s a beatiful edited book with Coppolas handwriten comments on the script, mixed with the background story of the film。 I really liked the book and it gave me a new understanding of how hard it´s to make good films。 I read this book on the kindle, and the pictures are not as good as I image they are in the hard-copy book。

3。5 stars。 Exactly what it says on the tin。 interesting and fun to read along while watching the movie, if a bit basic。 What I really want is Coppola's insane godfather bible。 There are some photos of a few of the pages, but I'd love the whole thing。 (He ripped the pages out of the book and glued them onto blank sheets of paper, and then obsessively annotated it while planning out the movie。 Gimme。) 3。5 stars。 Exactly what it says on the tin。 interesting and fun to read along while watching the movie, if a bit basic。 What I really want is Coppola's insane godfather bible。 There are some photos of a few of the pages, but I'd love the whole thing。 (He ripped the pages out of the book and glued them onto blank sheets of paper, and then obsessively annotated it while planning out the movie。 Gimme。) 。。。more

A great re-production of the screenplay that incorporates the entire movie including ad-libs while explaining parts that were in the original script that did not make it to the screen。 Some of these written moments were shot and used in TV versions of the movie。 Also along the way the author gives you some backstory on how or why certain things were chosen during the production。 You also get some trivia on the actors, including the family and friends that showed up as extras at the wedding。 A pl A great re-production of the screenplay that incorporates the entire movie including ad-libs while explaining parts that were in the original script that did not make it to the screen。 Some of these written moments were shot and used in TV versions of the movie。 Also along the way the author gives you some backstory on how or why certain things were chosen during the production。 You also get some trivia on the actors, including the family and friends that showed up as extras at the wedding。 A pleasant and quick read for anyone who is a fan of the film。 。。。more

I don't know of too many books transformed into a movie this carefully。 This walks the reader through Coppola's challenges of making this famous movie。 Also, there's some really fun trivia and descriptions of scenes that didn't make it。This is a book that needs to be in one's hands and not electronic; the images, the cut and paste look of it give it authenticity, as if I were in the shoot。 I don't know of too many books transformed into a movie this carefully。 This walks the reader through Coppola's challenges of making this famous movie。 Also, there's some really fun trivia and descriptions of scenes that didn't make it。This is a book that needs to be in one's hands and not electronic; the images, the cut and paste look of it give it authenticity, as if I were in the shoot。 。。。more
