i want read japan book

I think this was an excellent book for a group setting but not at all for individual studying, especially without a teacher。 It is a very lovely book in terms of illustrations, graphic aspect and overall aesthetics with recurring characters and their backstories。 This is mainly the reason why I will give it 4 stars。 A really good side to this book is that it is very comprehensive。 With 25 lessons of grammar you will be thoroughly immersed with N5 and slightly above knowledge for the JLPT exams。 I think this was an excellent book for a group setting but not at all for individual studying, especially without a teacher。 It is a very lovely book in terms of illustrations, graphic aspect and overall aesthetics with recurring characters and their backstories。 This is mainly the reason why I will give it 4 stars。 A really good side to this book is that it is very comprehensive。 With 25 lessons of grammar you will be thoroughly immersed with N5 and slightly above knowledge for the JLPT exams。 It is also continued with MNN 2 and 3 which can really guide you down a very complex path of Japanese learning, maintaining the same style, characters and patterns you are used to from the start。 I found the MNN series a bit more advanced than other Japanese textbooks I have studied until now and I really recommend it for those who seek a challenge after they have gained some experience with this language in general。However, the weak point of this book is that it is not that beginner friendly at all。 First of all, there is no romaji or English at all。 This book is exclusively in Japanese。 It may really push away curious people from giving it a shot。 Even if you use the teacher's notes book, it is still not enough。 Some explanations are very weirdly given and actually end up confusing inexperienced learners more than help them。 Also the exercises have no explanations either so they do not tell you what you need to do。 This can be a good thing for advanced learners because it teaches them patterns and how to understand an exercise without it explaining what needs to be done。 However for complete beginners this is a big deal breaker。 My students were well into 6-7 lessons of this book and did not understand what many exercises want them to do。 The biggest downside of this book to me personally is the fact that it does not explain plain/informal vs formal styles properly。 You are introduced to the plain style of verbs only around lesson 17。 So this, in my opinion and many others' too, is a really awful thing to do to learners。 It is like learning conjugated verbs without being aware that there is an infinitive form as well (which, by the way, is extremely important to Japanese learning unlike any other language I have learned before)。 I learned verbs like this and it affected my understanding of Japanese verbs gravely。 The order of some patterns/grammar points is also very strange and unusual to me, which really complicates things a lot。 I had to restructure some lessons entirely for my students and it was really not the most pleasant experience。 Looking at this book from an advanced point of view with experience teaching and studying and restudying MNN1 about 6 times now, I can tell that this is not just a one-time-kind-of-book。 It really is abundant in information and some grammar patterns can be easily overlooked or forgotten without proper studying。 It is also a book that requires a mentor or a teacher who can really help you understand some things beyond what the book has to offer。 Not recommended to complete beginners, but rather to those who are curious to further their studies and try a new method different from what other textbooks have to offer。 。。。more

On one hand this is the most useful Japanese book out there。 It has clear structures and the vocabulary is carefully thought out。 On the other hand, if you are self-studying then forget it, also it contains a lot of formal Japanese you will not use but is prioritized, and it is generally ugly in my opinion。 However, after using other books before it, I love it。 So, I have a strange relationship with this textbook。

English speakers, use Genki instead。 This book is good in its own right but the explanations are lacking, perhaps in an attempt to please a multilingual public, however whatever it does, Genki does better。 If you can study using English, then by all means go with Genki。

It's very straightforward。 It has different exercises to help you remember how to use the grammar and when to use it。 It's quite helpful that it also has a separate book with the English translation and detailed explanation of every sentence pattern, vocabulary, and conversation。 It is perfect for people who are beginners and especially those who will take JLPT。 I passed my JLPT N5 and N4 with ease because of this book! Best Japanese grammar book you can start with。 Clear, intuitive and simple。 Useful bunch of vocabulary words every page。 Furigana included above every kanji。 Before this one book I was not able to make sense of Japanese, let alone express myself。 I am very proud I started my Japanese learning with this wonderful book。 100% Recommended

As a textbook it's great - but here's the problem, my eyesight isn't great and unless the light is really bright I just can't read it。 I don't have a problem with Genki, but the font in this is smaller and a bit messy and the paper is not high quality (so the print is fuzzy)。 Since it's not available in electronic form, I end up taking a magnifying glass to class。 Not ideal。 As a textbook it's great - but here's the problem, my eyesight isn't great and unless the light is really bright I just can't read it。 I don't have a problem with Genki, but the font in this is smaller and a bit messy and the paper is not high quality (so the print is fuzzy)。 Since it's not available in electronic form, I end up taking a magnifying glass to class。 Not ideal。 。。。more

It takes me a good while to finish this one 。 My Japanese is getting better ^^ 。 This might not be the best Japanese text book out there but it works 。 It might be boring but I do believe you gotta get through boring stuff before get to learn interesting things 。 がんばってね!

この教科書は非常に困難であった。初心者として、私はシンプルなものを好んであろう。Questo libro di testo è stato molto difficile。 Come principiante avrei preferito qualcosa di più semplice。THANKS TO GOOGLE TRANSLATOR。

Great textbook to study the Japanese language。 Most people say it is only for class-learning as explanations and translation from a teacher are required (the textbook is written in Japanese only)。 But actually, if you get to read the "Translation & Grammatical Notes" textbook too, this method enables you to learn alone - even if not from the very beginning。Minna no Nihongo 1 almost enables you to pass the JLPT 5 test, and with vol。 2 you can acquire the required knowledge to pass JLPT 4-3。 Great textbook to study the Japanese language。 Most people say it is only for class-learning as explanations and translation from a teacher are required (the textbook is written in Japanese only)。 But actually, if you get to read the "Translation & Grammatical Notes" textbook too, this method enables you to learn alone - even if not from the very beginning。Minna no Nihongo 1 almost enables you to pass the JLPT 5 test, and with vol。 2 you can acquire the required knowledge to pass JLPT 4-3。 。。。more

Since the book contains next to no english or romanji (translation of japanese writing into latin characters), I strongly suggest that anyone learns their hiragana and katakana syllabaries (a total of 100 characters that represent the syllables of the japanese language) before starting this book。 However, it is as pleasant as it is useful to learn by, for groups, as well as for the self-taught。The book contains grammar references, as well as everyday situations and cultural references。I am preju Since the book contains next to no english or romanji (translation of japanese writing into latin characters), I strongly suggest that anyone learns their hiragana and katakana syllabaries (a total of 100 characters that represent the syllables of the japanese language) before starting this book。 However, it is as pleasant as it is useful to learn by, for groups, as well as for the self-taught。The book contains grammar references, as well as everyday situations and cultural references。I am prejudiced, anyway, the book carries the weight of memories。 。。。more

TWO THUMBS UP!!!This is certainly book for practicing Japanese。 No romaji, just kana (Japanese characters)。。。the best way to sharpen our skill toward hiragana, katakana and kanji as well as the grammar itself。 Enhanced with answer key, this book is really helpfull。 But, as the title "Shokyu", we won't be given any formula/grammar structure。 This is absolutely exercise book, the theory/grammar is briefly explained on its serial Minna No Nihongo "Grammatical Notes" TWO THUMBS UP!!!This is certainly book for practicing Japanese。 No romaji, just kana (Japanese characters)。。。the best way to sharpen our skill toward hiragana, katakana and kanji as well as the grammar itself。 Enhanced with answer key, this book is really helpfull。 But, as the title "Shokyu", we won't be given any formula/grammar structure。 This is absolutely exercise book, the theory/grammar is briefly explained on its serial Minna No Nihongo "Grammatical Notes" 。。。more

Great book for anyone beginning to study Japanese, the local volunteer group I used to go to used it as their main textbook and I can see why。 The book contains no english and no romaji but has easy to understand dialogues, pictures and verb charts which make understanding Japanese much easier。Strong recommendation for anyone wanting to start studying Japanese。
