Summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Unteachables, Gordon Korman, comes a hilarious middle grade novel about a group of kids forced to "unplug" at a wellness camp--where they instead find intrigue, adventure, and a whole lot of chaos。 Perfect for fans of Korman's Ungifted and the Masterminds series, as well as Carl Hiaasen's eco mysteries。

As the son of the world's most famous tech billionaire, spoiled Jett Baranov has always gotten what he wanted。 So when his father's private jet drops him in the middle of the Arkansas wilderness, at a place called the Oasis, Jett can't believe it。 He's forced to hand over his cell phone, eat grainy veggie patties, and participate in wholesome activities with the other kids, who he has absolutely no interest in hanging out with。

As the weeks go on, Jett starts to get used to the unplugged life and even bonds with the other kids over their discovery of a baby-lizard-turned-pet, Needles。 But he can't help noticing that the adults at the Oasis are acting really strange。

Jett is determined to get to the bottom of things, but can he convince everybody that he is no longer just a spoiled brat who is making trouble?

Great middle grade listen。 It has adventure and mystery and would be broadly appealing to boys and girls。 Spoiled rich kid ends up at middle of nowhere retreat where no screens are allowed。 Creative and funny。

Love it, best book ever!

I listened to most of this book on a road trip, and the fun/interesting story helped my driving time pass quickly。 This is my first book by Korman (excluding his 39 Clues contributions)

It took me a while to get interested in this book, but nothing else I had reserved was ready。 Once it got the stage set & the characters introduced, it really picked up。 I kept being surprised by things that happened, which was a real treat! I ended up enjoying it quite a bit。 It’s a good one to listen to, as there is more than 1 reader and that always makes the audio better。

This is a fun and original storyline for kids。 Jett is a complex character that has a transformation in the story。 I liked the antics, the adventures, and the friendships formed。 And who doesn't love having Needles show up in the story?? Kids are going to enjoy this one! gordon Korman is my go to man to find good books for my kiddos to read。I thought the story was good I loved how Jet kept the book moving with humor but also struggle。I didn't enjoy all the "meditation " I didn't feel so many words needed to be written。 However another good book Mr Korman! gordon Korman is my go to man to find good books for my kiddos to read。I thought the story was good I loved how Jet kept the book moving with humor but also struggle。I didn't enjoy all the "meditation " I didn't feel so many words needed to be written。 However another good book Mr Korman! 。。。more

Fun and entertaining book about a very rich kid who is sent by his father to an "unplugged" summer camp。 No computers, phones, iPads, internet - how will he survive。While at camp, Jett changes as he makes new friends, has a pet for the first time in his life, and solves the mystery of the mansion and "Snapper"。 Fun and entertaining book about a very rich kid who is sent by his father to an "unplugged" summer camp。 No computers, phones, iPads, internet - how will he survive。While at camp, Jett changes as he makes new friends, has a pet for the first time in his life, and solves the mystery of the mansion and "Snapper"。 。。。more

I actually could not finish this book。 The preview denoted a “quicker” start。 While I generally enjoy young adult fiction, this one was a little too young in an emotional sense to me。Kids 12 and under would probably love this book, however。

Another great middle grade mystery by Gordon Korman。 This one has a good mix of humor and mystery that will appeal to today's tech-centered kids。 Another great middle grade mystery by Gordon Korman。 This one has a good mix of humor and mystery that will appeal to today's tech-centered kids。 。。。more

I will give it 3。5 stars - there were a couple of issues I had with the story。Pet Owners beware - be sure you KNOW what species your pet really is before you become attached, or you become part of their diet。

Gordon classic creative mind does it again! A great book for young adults and older fans of the legend author。 It reminds me of an updated version of, ‘I want to go home’ like the story like both boys want to go home。 Yet end up liking and not minding it。 They both sneak off to towns。 But this ones little creature will shock you。 It takes Gordon’s creativity to a whole new level。

New age gurus; evil hypnosis; alligators; tech billionaires; Orthodontists without Borders; shenanigans with friends at camp; a firework powered breakout; a thrilling golf cart chase scene。What's not to love? I'd give it ten stars if I could。 New age gurus; evil hypnosis; alligators; tech billionaires; Orthodontists without Borders; shenanigans with friends at camp; a firework powered breakout; a thrilling golf cart chase scene。What's not to love? This is only the second Gordon Korman book I've read and I was disappointed。 I read Restart with my school's book club and I loved that book (and it sparked some terrific discussion); this one made me feel like I was perhaps too old to enjoy it。 There's a mystery that was 100% predictable to me from the third chapter, and - here's where I really do feel too old - the notion that a person cannot create meaningful friendships or relationships unless they are completely unplugged from technology se This is only the second Gordon Korman book I've read and I was disappointed。 I read Restart with my school's book club and I loved that book (and it sparked some terrific discussion); this one made me feel like I was perhaps too old to enjoy it。 There's a mystery that was 100% predictable to me from the third chapter, and - here's where I really do feel too old - the notion that a person cannot create meaningful friendships or relationships unless they are completely unplugged from technology seems false to me。 The main character's ability to make friends in this book seemed less about the lack of technology and more about being in the same boat as other people。。。。which is just normal friendship-creating material, right? 。。。more

Jett Baranov is a spoiled rich kid, the son of a Jeff Bezos-type tech tycoon。 When he is sent away to unplug at a wellness center deep in the Arkansas woods, he is not happy。 But as we learn more about the other campers and the characters who run the camp, we know that there is something under the surface。 A fun read, and a great choice for reluctant readers (as are most of Korman's books)。 Jett Baranov is a spoiled rich kid, the son of a Jeff Bezos-type tech tycoon。 When he is sent away to unplug at a wellness center deep in the Arkansas woods, he is not happy。 But as we learn more about the other campers and the characters who run the camp, we know that there is something under the surface。 A fun read, and a great choice for reluctant readers (as are most of Korman's books)。 。。。more

A spoiled tech-rich kid gets sent to a techless nature camp。 Reads like an old white man trying to tell kids that technology bad, nature good, but with friendship and a very sudden actual plot。

I guessed it, and I was right。 I liked this book a lot。 I had fun reading it, and I enjoyed the adventures of the kids。 I usually always get a kick out of Gordon Korman's books, and this one was right on par。 I read Liane Moriarty's book "Nine Perfect Strangers" when it came out, and this kind of reminds me of a kids' version of that, so that is fun too。 I guessed it, and I was right。 I liked this book a lot。 I had fun reading it, and I enjoyed the adventures of the kids。 I usually always get a kick out of Gordon Korman's books, and this one was right on par。 I read Liane Moriarty's book "Nine Perfect Strangers" when it came out, and this kind of reminds me of a kids' version of that, so that is fun too。 。。。more

Actual rating: 3。5Read this in a day。 Fun story but way too slow moving。 The mystery was also really predictable and didn't unfold as intriguingly as I wanted it to。 Actual rating: 3。5Read this in a day。 Fun story but way too slow moving。 The mystery was also really predictable and didn't unfold as intriguingly as I wanted it to。 。。。more

I did not enjoy this book。 However, I feel generous and have decided to round up my rating (on Goodreads only because they still do not allow for half stars)。 I did not really empathize or understand any of the characters。 Korman emphasized all of their flaws, emphasized it too much。 On top of that, the plot fell apart about 60% of the way through。 That first 60% focused on rescuing Nibbles, the animal pictured on cover, keeping him alive and keeping him secret。 Then he gets out and you never se I did not enjoy this book。 However, I feel generous and have decided to round up my rating (on Goodreads only because they still do not allow for half stars)。 I did not really empathize or understand any of the characters。 Korman emphasized all of their flaws, emphasized it too much。 On top of that, the plot fell apart about 60% of the way through。 That first 60% focused on rescuing Nibbles, the animal pictured on cover, keeping him alive and keeping him secret。 Then he gets out and you never see him again。 The last 40% attempts to focus on some malfeasance by one of the adults at the wellness camp。 The seriousness of these actions felt incongruent with the majority of the narrative that had come before。 This book did not work for me。 。。。more
