Summary

It’s been 20 years since 9/11。 Two decades since the United States was attacked on home soil and embarked on 20 years of war。 The enemy has been patient, learning, and adapting。 And the enemy is ready to strike again。

A new president offers hope to a country weary of conflict。 He’s a young, popular, self-made visionary…but he’s also a man with a secret。

Halfway across the globe a regional superpower struggles with sanctions imposed by the Great Satan and her European allies, a country whose ancient religion spawned a group of ruthless assassins。 Faced with internal dissent and extrajudicial targeted killings by the United States and Israel, the Supreme Leader puts a plan in motion to defeat the most powerful nation on earth。

Meanwhile, in a classified facility five stories underground, a young PhD student has gained access to a level of bioweapons known only to a select number of officials。 A second-generation agent, he has been assigned a mission that will bring his adopted homeland to its knees。

The plot was well formulated。 Carr researched his material, and I found this a quick read。 Reece was along the lines of the Gray Man and others of this genre。 I would not say there is an abnormal amount of gore。 Recommend other books by the author。

The pacing was off this round Jack。。。too many chapters on a back story that was clear to the reader within a few。 Good book, but looking forward to next。

His best book yet。 Great research, comical as well。 Every chapter has good info in it。

Another superb book from Jack Carr。 I cannot wait for the fifth installment to come out later this year!!

With each entry in this series。 The story and characters keep getting better and evolving。 This book was hard to put down。

Let's get the one critique I have out of the way。。。His name is Frank Hamer (one m), not Hammer (like the tool)。 I've long studied (?) the take down of the infamous killers that he took out in Louisiana。 It's a common occurrance to miss-spell so not really a harm, but my OCD requires me to point it out。And if that's the only critique I have, I'd have to admit this is another fantastic story。 9/11 interwoven with Iranian terrorist, a bio-weapon on the heels of the COVID19 pandemic。 The premise is Let's get the one critique I have out of the way。。。His name is Frank Hamer (one m), not Hammer (like the tool)。 I've long studied (?) the take down of the infamous killers that he took out in Louisiana。 It's a common occurrance to miss-spell so not really a harm, but my OCD requires me to point it out。And if that's the only critique I have, I'd have to admit this is another fantastic story。 9/11 interwoven with Iranian terrorist, a bio-weapon on the heels of the COVID19 pandemic。 The premise is not only realistic, but quite terrifying。 The setup is fantastic and the bad guys are real bad guys and not necessarily cliche'。 The good guys are likeable and human。 You get a feel for their lives and being。 The combat scenes are gripping and realistic。 It's a great read that's easy to follow and flows really well。 Can't wait for the next installment。 。。。more

Somewhere between a 3。5 to 4-star book。 My least favorite of the series, so far。 The author took way too long to get to the "action" scenes that I have so enjoyed in his past outings。 The background build-up was too much。 In fact, there were a few times that I wondered if I would even finish the book! Not until the middle of the story, does the action start! And then, Reece does what he does best, and what I love best about his character: He kills the bad guys without remorse! Carr is among the bestI've read thrillers in this specific sub-genre for 40+ years from Clancy to Thor and I must say that Jack Carr is my favorite。 I'm not smart enough to know what really makes for great writing, but I know it when I read it。 As Grisham is to legal thrillers and King is to horror, so Carr is to political and military thrillers。 Please keep them coming。 Carr is among the bestI've read thrillers in this specific sub-genre for 40+ years from Clancy to Thor and I must say that Jack Carr is my favorite。 I'm not smart enough to know what really makes for great writing, but I know it when I read it。 As Grisham is to legal thrillers and King is to horror, so Carr is to political and military thrillers。 Please keep them coming。 。。。more

Jack Carr did it again。 The beginning of the book doesn’t have the action that James Reece usually has but the story is scary。 Are there still 9/11 terrorists who n the us waiting? Are they watching, learning, and planning。 They all say “I know you!” to James Reece。 Second half is action packed and Reece at his finest。

The first two thirds of The Devil’s Hand was little more than a history and philosophical lesson with almost nothing happening。 That’s quite a drag for a thriller when it wasn’t until the last third of the book that things finally came together。When they did, this story turned out pretty decent。I’ve had other authors give me history and/or opinionated lessons in their novels before。 Under the guise of a thriller, this isn’t what I signed up for when I bought the book。 If this is a trend, I won’t The first two thirds of The Devil’s Hand was little more than a history and philosophical lesson with almost nothing happening。 That’s quite a drag for a thriller when it wasn’t until the last third of the book that things finally came together。When they did, this story turned out pretty decent。I’ve had other authors give me history and/or opinionated lessons in their novels before。 Under the guise of a thriller, this isn’t what I signed up for when I bought the book。 If this is a trend, I won’t be revisiting this author again。As for the minimal thriller part, when it finally kicked in, it was intense and didn’t take names。 The hero did his thing with extreme prejudice, yet managed to show restraint at just the right times。I can say that I had a great time for at least part of the book。 I’d recommend that part of it, but the rest? Nope, unless you’re into that sort of thing。 Apparently, he has a lot of fans and I wish him well, but I much prefer a story that gets to the point without the lectures。 。。。more

Reece is on the Hunt! Action a little slower than last couple of books but you get to see Reeces relationship with Katie grow and learn a lot about the goings on with 9/11。 His work is not done yet as there is a loose end he needs to tie up…looking forward!

I really enjoyed the story, Jack Carr is amazing finding his research to build his story。

I enjoyed the first 3 books in this series but this one was a little hard for me to get into as there was quite a bit of foundation that had to be laid。 This story is about a bioweapon attack on the US with a deadly virus and quite frankly, the possibility of that happening is very chilling。 Jack Carr is a military vet with first hand knowledge and he obviously did extensive research before writing this story。 It's extremely well done。 James Reece is one of those fictional characters that I hope I enjoyed the first 3 books in this series but this one was a little hard for me to get into as there was quite a bit of foundation that had to be laid。 This story is about a bioweapon attack on the US with a deadly virus and quite frankly, the possibility of that happening is very chilling。 Jack Carr is a military vet with first hand knowledge and he obviously did extensive research before writing this story。 It's extremely well done。 James Reece is one of those fictional characters that I hope has a real life partner somewhere! I really enjoyed this book (as I have his previous 3 tomes!)。 I enjoyed his ability to weave through the plot line current events that very much effect our world。 Such work is believable and quite plausible。 I also enjoyed his "hat tips" to authors who he enjoys (such as a guard who was reading a Brad Thor novel while on duty)。 That has happened more than once which I was glad to see; yet, it such "hat tips" don't in any way get in the way of the plot and story development。Speaking of the plot, I really enjoyed this book (as I have his previous 3 tomes!)。 I enjoyed his ability to weave through the plot line current events that very much effect our world。 Such work is believable and quite plausible。 I also enjoyed his "hat tips" to authors who he enjoys (such as a guard who was reading a Brad Thor novel while on duty)。 That has happened more than once which I was glad to see; yet, it such "hat tips" don't in any way get in the way of the plot and story development。Speaking of the plot, READ THIS BOOK! Story line, for me anyway, seemed to get off to a slow start。 about a 1/3 into the book really started to get interesting。 If I had to complain about any of it would be at times Carr just got too detailed。 For example, I really don't care what brand of alcohol anyone drinks as it really doesn't add anything to the story。 Story line, for me anyway, seemed to get off to a slow start。 about a 1/3 into the book really started to get interesting。 If I had to complain about any of it would be at times Carr just got too detailed。 For example, I really don't care what brand of alcohol anyone drinks as it really doesn't add anything to the story。 。。。more

One word : Wow!Jack Carr takes a big step forward in his writing with The Devil’s Hand, weaving a much more complex tapestry of plot and storytelling that, IMHO, elevates him to the ranks of authors like Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, et al。 Well done!

This is the first novel I have read by Jack Carr。 If I were to ape his writing technique, that statement would be followed by a lengthy explanation of my entire history reading Action Thrillers of the Espionage variety - loaded with dates and info dumps about pioneering authors and interesting factoids。 And, if I REALLY wanted to write like Jack Carr, I would seem to abandon that, and get into the flow of my actual review of this book。。。but all through the review, I would stop dead and get back This is the first novel I have read by Jack Carr。 If I were to ape his writing technique, that statement would be followed by a lengthy explanation of my entire history reading Action Thrillers of the Espionage variety - loaded with dates and info dumps about pioneering authors and interesting factoids。 And, if I REALLY wanted to write like Jack Carr, I would seem to abandon that, and get into the flow of my actual review of this book。。。but all through the review, I would stop dead and get back to the task of mansplaining and info dumping, while intermittently writing the actual review。 I mean, if there is a special tent the protagonist is packing along for a mission in this book, we need to stop, hear about the history of the Creation of that tent, why it's so warm and easy to store, what 1960s spy operation led to the creation of that tent, and whether or not Russia has copied that tent。 In a few pages, we'll depart for the current mission。That's what goes on here。 It makes me worry about going back and trying out the earlier books in the series - as prep for some looming TV show ( where, presumably, all this will go away) - but it's the only thing that worries me。 What I mean is, I disagree with the notion that you can't start this series with a later book like this on the basis that there is too much baggage and a reader will get confused; worry not - is there any doubt that any writer who cranks out so many pages explaining stuff is a master at providing enough explanation of what, of relevance, happened before, and setting up what is going to be cliff-hung for a later book? I feel like, in explaining this last point to you, I may have explained something rather extraneous or time-wasting, thus interrupting the flow of the review when I could be on to other things than, again, Carr's mastery of explaining things, but I do this in the spirit of the book。The plot of this novel is engaging。 I read fast because it held my attention。 At some point, I read fast because I wanted to be done with the herky-jerky aspect, and will be more likely to go to Thriller writers who don't do that。 This book involves a bioweapon of the infectious, and lethal, variety, and may not be suitable for some viewers who are still stuck in the covid era。 I thought there were some dubious coincidences involving people arriving at the same place at the same time, and the author explains fight scenes in an off-putting way (maybe it's that explaining thing again), but overall the book, despite my problems with it, was exciting enough to give a small kiss。 If I haven't explained all this properly, I guess it didn't stick。 。。。more

The main character, James Reece, is a poor man’s Jack Ryan。 The novel is full of military jargon, one-dimensional characters, and unbelievable scenarios。 Perhaps the first three books in this series are better, but I’m not willing to chance it。

A new author for me。 A political thriller that had a slow start but was hard to put down for the second half。 The premise that another country could use a bio weapon against us that might cause us to destroy our own cities was unnerving。 Can’t decide if I’ll read more from this author or not。
