Summary

Dr Michael Mosley, author of the bestselling 5:2 Fast Diet, reveals a game-changing approach to one of the greatest silent epidemics of our time - raised blood sugar levels。 The food we eat today, high in sugar and easily digestible carbohydrates, is not only making us fat, but is putting us at risk of type 2 diabetes, strokes, dementia, cancer and a lifetime on medication。 More than a third of adults in the UK now have raised blood sugar levels and most don't know it。 In this timely book, Dr Mosley explains why we pile on dangerous abdominal fat and shows us how to shed it, fast。 He demolishes common myths, such as the claim that steady weight loss is always better than rapid weight loss and that those who lose weight rapidly will inevitably put it back on。 This is a book not just for those at highest risk but for anyone who has struggled with their weight and wants to regain control of their health。 "I feel amazing。 I have been given another chance at life。" Cassie, 28 - lost 20kg。 Average weight loss: 14kg in 8 weeks。 Includes a detailed 8-week programme with menu plans。

The 8-week Blood Sugar Diet is a companion piece to Professor Roy Taylor's Life without diabetes, although written five years earlier。 The two books canvas the same material, what causes diabetes, the solution (an eight week diet) and a selection of recipes。 Taylor also supplies a Foreword。 They also share the features of being written in a form intelligible to the average reader, whoever that is。 I also like the summaries at the end of the chapters as that encourages thoughtful reading and bett The 8-week Blood Sugar Diet is a companion piece to Professor Roy Taylor's Life without diabetes, although written five years earlier。 The two books canvas the same material, what causes diabetes, the solution (an eight week diet) and a selection of recipes。 Taylor also supplies a Foreword。 They also share the features of being written in a form intelligible to the average reader, whoever that is。 I also like the summaries at the end of the chapters as that encourages thoughtful reading and better recall。I still find the idea of a radical liquid diet a difficult idea to turn into reality especially as there is no fibre and such a diet has the potential to cause constipation。I think I will take it on advisement and come back to Mosley's book if other ideas don't work。 。。。more

Short and sweet - or not sweet at all actually, very diabetic friendly with plenty of reminders that some people's feet do get amputated。 It felt like it ended too quick but it was clear and actually there was no need for it to be longer he really did cover the science, his background and the diet premise as well as case studies。 I read this out of interest more than anything but I have a particular fear of amputation now so I may give this a go soon。 Short and sweet - or not sweet at all actually, very diabetic friendly with plenty of reminders that some people's feet do get amputated。 It felt like it ended too quick but it was clear and actually there was no need for it to be longer he really did cover the science, his background and the diet premise as well as case studies。 I read this out of interest more than anything but I have a particular fear of amputation now so I may give this a go soon。 。。。more

3 months ago I was diagnosed as pre diabetic。 For 3 months I tried a much gentler version of this diet。 In other words, I stuck to nothing! Result - ot got worse。So now I am going to stick to this for next 3 months when I will be tested again。Fingers crossed。

I read this for the information on diet to reduce blood sugar。 The information was useful。 I do not intend to follow an 8 week, 800 calorie a day diet, but Dr Mosley includes alternatives that can also reduce blood sugar but not as fast。 I expect that I will refer back to it as I adjust my diet to try and lower my blood sugar。 Included are a number of stories of individuals and their successes with the diet。 I did not need or want to read so many stories, but some people may find them motivating I read this for the information on diet to reduce blood sugar。 The information was useful。 I do not intend to follow an 8 week, 800 calorie a day diet, but Dr Mosley includes alternatives that can also reduce blood sugar but not as fast。 I expect that I will refer back to it as I adjust my diet to try and lower my blood sugar。 Included are a number of stories of individuals and their successes with the diet。 I did not need or want to read so many stories, but some people may find them motivating。 I did not like the recipes。 I generally prefer simple food and do not require the kind of recipes in this book to be satisfied with the taste of my food。 Recipes often include ingredients I am not likely to use (fennel, crème fraîche)。 Recipes are very “British” but measurements are in terms common in the US。 。。。more

Very important information for anyone struggling with being overweight and/or high blood sugar。 Discusses the “diabesity” epidemic in our country and provides research and uplifting personal stories of people who have turned their lives around toward healthy living without disease。 Author gives concrete advice on making the lifestyle changes including healthy body measurements, lab results, and nutrition intake。 Sample meals and exercises are also given。 Easy to read and implement。

A good overall book on Diabetes (or preDiabetes) and how to improve your overall health and blood glucose levels。 It has some reasonable suggestions regarding exercise and stress, and as much as an 800 calorie diet might seem drastic, it’s a good starting point allowing you to gage where you are and where you need to aim。 I learned a lot!

Took up this book, as I was again gaining weight, despite being overweight。 Considering I am bone heavy, I was excusing myself even when my BMI was approaching near "morbid obesity" levels。 The book is an easy read, Mosley has made sure to include references and intersperses the book with links where the reader can easily get facts and figures。 Mosley has also included exercises and a variety of recipes for the motivated reader。 The recipes are definitely going to make our lives easier consideri Took up this book, as I was again gaining weight, despite being overweight。 Considering I am bone heavy, I was excusing myself even when my BMI was approaching near "morbid obesity" levels。 The book is an easy read, Mosley has made sure to include references and intersperses the book with links where the reader can easily get facts and figures。 Mosley has also included exercises and a variety of recipes for the motivated reader。 The recipes are definitely going to make our lives easier considering there is always a lot of planning required when choosing the ingredients and the method to cook for this calorie restricted diet program。 Will update once I am done with the first 8 weeks。 。。。more

I am nearly 5 weeks into a no sugar, low glycemic index diet change and was concerned that no matter how full I felt, vegetables were not adding up to more than 800 calories a day。 Now I am not concerned! At least for this first 8 weeks。 It might really help me。Amazing to hear how many people turned their health around in just 8 weeks, from pre-diabetes to ready to die from diabetes, complete reversal!

A really good reboot to reset blood chemistry levels。 Recent studies have shown that, despite what we've been told the last 30 years, light fasting is not only not harmful for diabetics or pre-diabetics, but an optimal way to improve blood glucose levels, insulin sensitivity and fat storage。 The fasting isn't difficult, it's really just calorie restriction two days a week and then eating a healthy diet 5 days a week。 This isn't keto, or whole 30 or any other fad, it's just choosing healthy foods A really good reboot to reset blood chemistry levels。 Recent studies have shown that, despite what we've been told the last 30 years, light fasting is not only not harmful for diabetics or pre-diabetics, but an optimal way to improve blood glucose levels, insulin sensitivity and fat storage。 The fasting isn't difficult, it's really just calorie restriction two days a week and then eating a healthy diet 5 days a week。 This isn't keto, or whole 30 or any other fad, it's just choosing healthy foods and them limiting their intake a few days a week to spur weight loss (and improve blood sugar) that triggers improvement and reversal of Type 2 diabetes。 。。。more

In the 21st century we individually have to counteract a phenomenon new to our society: for the first time in 200,000 years of homo sapiens’ evolution we need to learn how to avoid harm from the ever-present excess of food。A very useful book。 I also bought the associated recipe book。

Quite an interesting concept and a good read。 Although I am not diabetic I think there are some good practices listed within this book。

Very helpful, although I think it’ll be one to come back to every so often in order to remind myself of what to do。 Diabetes runs in the family so for me it wouldn’t be used for losing weight but just to make sure I’m eating healthily。 I’ve given it to both my parents who have read it too now and they agreed it was a really good read that helps to make you much more aware food-wise。

But I’m sticking with it - and hoping that his promises that it will be easy after getting past the first 2 weeks are true。 I’ll let you know!!! 。。。more
