Summary

NEW EDITION, REVISED AND UPDATED

Like Leadership and Self-Deception, The Arbinger Institute's first book, The Anatomy of Peace has become a worldwide phenomenon--not because of a media blitz, movie tie-in, or celebrity endorsement, but because readers have enthusiastically recommended it to colleagues, relatives, and friends。

The Anatomy of Peace asks, What if conflicts at home, conflicts at work, and conflicts in the world stem from the same root cause? What if we systematically misunderstand that cause? And what if, as a result, we unwittingly perpetuate the very problems we think we are trying to solve?

Through an intriguing story we learn how and why we contribute to the divisions and problems we blame on others and the surprising way that these problems can be solved。 Yusuf al-Falah, an Arab, and Avi Rozen, a Jew, each lost his father at the hands of the other's ethnic cousins。 The Anatomy of Peace is the story of how they came together, how they help warring parents and children come together, and how we too can find our way out of the struggles that weigh us down。

This second edition includes new sections enabling readers to go deeper into the book's key concepts; access to free digital study and discussion guides; and information about The Reconciliation Project, a highly successful global peace initiative based on concepts in The Anatomy of Peace

Oh boy。 This is a definite re-read。 Is it just me, or does everyone who reads this identify themselves as Lou in the story? Will read again to get the full learnings out of it。

288 pages, full of fluff and repetition。 Peace in your heart and see the other party as a person。 So don' be a dick and don't assume other people are dicks。 This could've been an insightfull blog post, but it's a contrived book。 288 pages, full of fluff and repetition。 Peace in your heart and see the other party as a person。 So don' be a dick and don't assume other people are dicks。 This could've been an insightfull blog post, but it's a contrived book。 。。。more

Left me with much think about in my relationships and interactions

The general idea of the book is fabulous and so applicable to all aspects of our lives。 I do think it filled in a lot of the holes for questions I had reading the first book so that was helpful。 And this one was less cheesy and more believable of writing as well

This is probably the first time in my eight years of higher education that I’ve enjoyed a book I’ve had to read for class。 It was a self help/leadership book but I did become invested in the characters lives。 If only everyone faced the conflicts in their lives with a “heart at peace”。

Legit ideas encapsulated in a cheesy-licious story。 I read this because my kid’s therapy group recommended it。 Didn’t realize the institute has Mormon ties。 Still, more helpful than not。

I wanted to like this book。 I also felt an immense amount of pressure to like this book, given its reputation and how often it was recommended to me。 However, I simply did not like it。 The theory was buried under a youth like fictitious story。 It reminded me of my children’s homeschool curriculum。 I much prefer data driven and scientific applications as opposed to a fictional story to explain non fictional concepts。 The characters were superficial and stereotypical。 I felt like the book was goin I wanted to like this book。 I also felt an immense amount of pressure to like this book, given its reputation and how often it was recommended to me。 However, I simply did not like it。 The theory was buried under a youth like fictitious story。 It reminded me of my children’s homeschool curriculum。 I much prefer data driven and scientific applications as opposed to a fictional story to explain non fictional concepts。 The characters were superficial and stereotypical。 I felt like the book was going for a biblical parable mash-up with the Alchemist。 Just give me the data driven information。 For me, the terrible simplistic storybook format water downed the theory。 Had there been an afterwards section explaining the research I would have liked it better。 In the end, they offered zero research credit to their theory。 。。。more

This book is amazing。 I found myself beginning to apply the concepts I was reading about to my own life before I even finished the book。 More than a book about conflict resolution, The Anatomy of Peace is a call to actively bring peace into your personal relationships, workplaces, and worlds as well as a toolbox to help you get started。

This book took the psychology of how we exist in certain "boxes" of (self-destructive) thinking, how to recognize those boxes within yourself, and how to break free of those ways of thinking in order to live at peace with yourself and others (family, friends, coworkers, etc。) 。。。 And it's done in a story format。 Interesting food for thought but it would have been a better read than listen due to the diagrams that were drawn in the book。 This book took the psychology of how we exist in certain "boxes" of (self-destructive) thinking, how to recognize those boxes within yourself, and how to break free of those ways of thinking in order to live at peace with yourself and others (family, friends, coworkers, etc。) 。。。 And it's done in a story format。 Interesting food for thought but it would have been a better read than listen due to the diagrams that were drawn in the book。 。。。more

I enjoyed how the lessons to be taught or shared were done through a story of families going through it。 Because I listened to it on audiobook I did not get to see the pyramid that they kept talking about and it would’ve been easier to understand if I could’ve referred back to some of the graphics that they referenced I look forward to finding them on the website。

Completely fantastic book

Solid wisdom, but in trying to make it read like a story, it distracted from the main purpose。 I would rather have the object lessons/examples mixed into a straightforward self-help book

It's amazing how sticky narrative-style writing is: The concepts in this book are invaluable for anyone who wants to learn how to effectively handle conflict, communicate with others, and be empathic in a way that will work towards understanding and positive growth。 My one gripe is by being so pure with the storytelling, some of the concepts get lost in the story。 Nonetheless, the appendix does a pretty good job of recapitulating the useful strategies and core ideas。 It's amazing how sticky narrative-style writing is: The concepts in this book are invaluable for anyone who wants to learn how to effectively handle conflict, communicate with others, and be empathic in a way that will work towards understanding and positive growth。 My one gripe is by being so pure with the storytelling, some of the concepts get lost in the story。 Nonetheless, the appendix does a pretty good job of recapitulating the useful strategies and core ideas。 。。。more

A family member invited me to read this book because he felt I did not have a heart at peace。 It took me a while to get motivated to read it, but I am glad I did。 It gave me a new perspective。 I want to give people the benefit of the doubt。 I want to look at others who have different ideas, cultures, and backgrounds as human beings regardless of whether or not we agree on any particular topic。 I wish for everyone to have a heart at peace。

Great ReadReally pushes you to examine yourself。 Keeping out of the box is the goal。 Works anywhere any time and is successful。

This one was hard to get through - but not because it's a dense read。 The style doesn't really serve the purpose very well。 It reads like a novel but it wants so badly to be a nonfiction source。 The novel format makes the tone more patronizing than I think makes sense with the subject matter。 It makes some ok points about conflict resolution, if you can get past the saccharine vibe of the actual writing。 This one was hard to get through - but not because it's a dense read。 The style doesn't really serve the purpose very well。 It reads like a novel but it wants so badly to be a nonfiction source。 The novel format makes the tone more patronizing than I think makes sense with the subject matter。 It makes some ok points about conflict resolution, if you can get past the saccharine vibe of the actual writing。 。。。more

I loved this book, probably because it was what I needed。 I noticed I tend to spend a lot more time in the “fix the things that aren’t working” mindset rather than the “help things to keep going right” mindset。 The pyramid of change described in the book was a powerful concept that rang true for me。

While it did have some repetitive moments and Avi and Yusuf were often unneccessarily cryptic in their teaching style, there's lots of really good lessons in here, provoking critical reflection for me。 I'm recommending this to everyone I know who is in any sort of leadership position。 While it did have some repetitive moments and Avi and Yusuf were often unneccessarily cryptic in their teaching style, there's lots of really good lessons in here, provoking critical reflection for me。 I'm recommending this to everyone I know who is in any sort of leadership position。 。。。more

Wonderful read!Story took some time to attached。 But I got glued after first half。 Author did interesting analysis and make logical points on keeping heart at peace and simplifying complex conflicts among family, work, nations, communities by this process。 Must read for education person who wants to learn on making peace in life。 Reading is good and easy but applying the learning is not that easy。 One should keep ego and greed away to fight temptation and bring peace in life。

This is a great book。 A wonderful follow-up to Leadership and Self Deception。 I found the lessons broadly applicable and the examples helpful and motivating。 This book helps the reader see how personal perspective and attitudes play a vital role in creating peaceful relationships with others。

I loved this book so much! While I read it for my course work in mediation, I thoroughly enjoyed all of it。 Anytime there are powerful lessons built into fables, I'm in。 The characters were real and flawed, the storylines were difficult and human, and the lessons were great。 I will take what I've learned about a heart at peace with me for a very long time! Oh man, I HATED the main character in this book at the start。 But it ended up being kinda like a Scrooge story。 It also teaches vital lessons on our dealings with those around us and how we should have our hearts at peace rather than at war。 We need to view people as people and not as objects。 8。5/10

3。5 stars。 I thought the concepts in this book were excellent, but the writing style made it difficult to read。 I prefer a variety of real-world examples to illustrate concepts, but this book weaves every concept into one long fictional story。 I grew impatient with the characters about halfway through, they didn't feel "real" and that made me want to rush through to get to the main points。 That being said, there are some concepts of value in this book that made it worth getting through。 3。5 stars。 I thought the concepts in this book were excellent, but the writing style made it difficult to read。 I prefer a variety of real-world examples to illustrate concepts, but this book weaves every concept into one long fictional story。 I grew impatient with the characters about halfway through, they didn't feel "real" and that made me want to rush through to get to the main points。 That being said, there are some concepts of value in this book that made it worth getting through。 。。。more

I was really skeptical of this book when I saw it in the bookstores but it was free from Audible so I gave it a shot。 While it took some time to get into thanks to the parable structure, I was hooked by the end and found it dropped some helpful nuggets of wisdom。

4。5 for me。 Audiobook。 Though the fabricated story can be cheesy here and there, there are some powerful lessons to be learned。 For me, one of the most important takeaways is that just because a behavior is justified, does not make it the right thing to do。 It will also help you want to be more kind and understanding to those around you。 I would recommend this to anyone。 I thought the actor who read it on Audible did a great job and made it enjoyable to listen to。 Its a reltively quick listen。
