One flight。 One impossible event。 Countless lives changed forever。。。

Everyone on the flight that day had been leading a double life。

Blake: a family man/an assassin for hire。
Joanna: a formidable lawyer/an insecure woman。
Slimboy: a promiscuous, straight rapper/a closeted gay man。

When their flight from Paris to New York encountered a terrifying, unexpected bout of turbulence, they all feared for those lives。 So upon landing safely, they are happy to put the flight behind them, and continue as normal。

The events that follow, however, are anything but normal。 For not one plane emerged from the storm - but two。

Everyone on the flight that day thought they had been leading a double life。 They were wrong - until now。

And as they prepare to meet their doubles, they must ask themselves:

Can you ever truly be yourself, if there are two of you?

'It's dizzying, exhilarating, brilliant!'

A psychological sci-fi/speculative fiction thriller。 Not usually my type, but I quite enjoyed it。

3。75-4I feel like I need a day of processing before fully rating this one。 The writing felt heavy and a bit over my head at times。 I prefer a smart, wordy, complex book to a vapid, shallow one, but this one might have been too much so (at times) for me。 Lots of characters, which I often like, but I found myself not really connecting to any of them。 I think that was partially the point, but still left me 🤔 On the other hand the plot was crazy interesting and I enjoyed the flow (set-up) of the boo 3。75-4I feel like I need a day of processing before fully rating this one。 The writing felt heavy and a bit over my head at times。 I prefer a smart, wordy, complex book to a vapid, shallow one, but this one might have been too much so (at times) for me。 Lots of characters, which I often like, but I found myself not really connecting to any of them。 I think that was partially the point, but still left me 🤔 On the other hand the plot was crazy interesting and I enjoyed the flow (set-up) of the book。 Also, it had a wide open interpretation ending which worked for me。 I don’t know that I’d recommend it, but am also glad I read it。 。。。more

This book offered a breadth of characters with a variety of complexities, and felt timely with the happenings of 2020s era。 I found myself laughing with the poked humor at the US (ie presidency, late night talk show, litigancy, etc)。 But this book also allowed me to think deeply on moral and ethical dilemmas in an entertaining, though at times tragic, arena。 I quite enjoyed his style of writing and could easily see myself enthralled in a short series to this nature。

A best-selling translation from French? Yup and it's quite delicious and savory, mixing satire, mystery, and science fiction in equal parts and ending with a dash of chili pepper。 An Air France flight from Paris to New York City hits unexpected and violent turbulence before it lands, twice。 The first landing in March is at JFK。 The second landing in June is at a military base。 The same people are on both flights。 They are duplicates, only those landing in March, have three months more life event A best-selling translation from French?

。。。more

I like the idea of this story。 Some of the characters were interesting and just when I got into following them, the story shifted。 I felt that I did not get enough time with some and too much with others。 I also think is will be a better movie than book, which is rare for me。

Introduce one character for 30 minutes, ok, this seems pretty interesting。 Oh crap, now they're introducing a 2nd character who seems to have no connection to the 1st。。。。。30 more minutes。 You're kidding, a 3rd character。。。 Fast forward。。。a 4th character worth no connection to the first 3? adored this book, super meta, fast paced and funny。 genuinely couldn’t put it down which hasn’t happened in a while for me with a contemporary novel。 10/10 recommend

Excellent read!Wow! This story stays with you long after finishing it。 I would rate this book 4。5 stars。 An interesting concept with an ending that really hits you。 The author is French which reflects in his conceptualization of Americans which may offend some; however, it is an excellent read! Highly recommend!

Frauke

Super Idee, leider sehr oberflächliche Umsetzung。

J

High concept。 Well executed。

3。5。 A very cool idea but it gets overly confusing at points。 And the philosophy is lost on me。

This was published in France in early 2020 and while America was obsessing over Tiger King at the start of the pandemic, the French were doing the same over this book。 It has elements of sci-fi, thrillers, philosophy and a love story or two。 It's an excellent book I thought and very unique even if it does echo a little of an old TV show called Lost。 This book is much better and is without a doubt the most fun book I've read in some time。 Don't know if that's a comment on the book or my reading s This was published in France in early 2020 and while America was obsessing over Tiger King at the start of the pandemic, the French were doing the same over this book。 It has elements of sci-fi, thrillers, philosophy and a love story or two。 It's an excellent book I thought and very unique even if it does echo a little of an old TV show called Lost。 This book is much better and is without a doubt the most fun book I've read in some time。 Don't know if that's a comment on the book or my reading selections。 Either way I'm giving this my highest recommendation。 。。。more

Having started out with an interesting premise, a staggering occurrence that certainly makes the reader sit up and pay attention, Le Tellier's overlong novel gets lost up its own cheeks。 Rather than continue on the science ficiton route, the author opts for a metaphysical direction, and, as if it seeking to provoke, it takes aim at American society, but the humour falls flat。 That knockout first 100 pages becomes a insipid goulash of genres, and characters, themselves a mishmash, some more clear Having started out with an interesting premise, a staggering occurrence that certainly makes the reader sit up and pay attention, Le Tellier's overlong novel gets lost up its own cheeks。 Rather than continue on the science ficiton route, the author opts for a metaphysical direction, and, as if it seeking to provoke, it takes aim at American society, but the humour falls flat。 That knockout first 100 pages becomes a insipid goulash of genres, and characters, themselves a mishmash, some more clearly drawn than others。 。。。more

Wonderful story。 What happens when you are faced with yourself? De Tellier nicely explores different reactions to the same stunning event。 The background of each character is explored in sufficient detail and it sets the stage for the unexplainable event to come。

Mark Schuliger

Kept my interest throughout, which is definitely a compliment。 There are so many other mediums vying for my attention that books must be compelling in order to compete。 This one had an interesting premise that grabbed me early on。 Be warned, however, that the first several chapters jump from character to character which can leave you with a "so where is this going" feeling, but soon thereafter the main event occurs and reels you in。Was it the strongest conclusion? No, and thus the 4 stars。 But i Kept my interest throughout, which is definitely a compliment。 There are so many other mediums vying for my attention that books must be compelling in order to compete。 This one had an interesting premise that grabbed me early on。 Be warned, however, that the first several chapters jump from character to character which can leave you with a "so where is this going" feeling, but soon thereafter the main event occurs and reels you in。Was it the strongest conclusion? The concept is fantastic, the same plane with the same passengers landing three months apart, but I found the narrative which is split between numerous characters, none of whom we really get to know, too fragmented。 I also felt as if, having had a great idea, the author didn't really know what to do with it and the book seemed to flounder after the second plane landed。 Ok but not great。 The concept is fantastic, the same plane with the same passengers landing three months apart, but I found the narrative which is split between numerous characters, none of whom we really get to know, too fragmented。 I also felt as if, having had a great idea, the author didn't really know what to do with it and the book seemed to flounder after the second plane landed。 Ok but not great。 。。。more
