Summary

Holes written by Louis Sachar is about a boy who is mistakenly sent to this brutal juvenile detention camp。 The boys at the camp are forced to dig holes in the desert all day, but they think that there is something suspicious about this activity。 This is a fun read and keeps you wanting to know more。Lexile: 660AR:3。8Six traits: Voice, Word choice

I am in grade 6 and we are reading Holes in school。 It is a really good book that you should read。 It's about a "camp" called Camp Green Lake。 One of the main characters is Stanley。 He gets into trouble for "stealing" and can go to jail or Camp Green Lake。 Stanley chooses camp。 Once there, he finds out it's a compound on a dried up lake where he is forced to dig holes all day。 All the kids at Camp Green Lake go through a lot of ups and downs while trying to help the warden discover the dark past I am in grade 6 and we are reading Holes in school。 It is a really good book that you should read。 It's about a "camp" called Camp Green Lake。 One of the main characters is Stanley。 He gets into trouble for "stealing" and can go to jail or Camp Green Lake。 Stanley chooses camp。 Once there, he finds out it's a compound on a dried up lake where he is forced to dig holes all day。 All the kids at Camp Green Lake go through a lot of ups and downs while trying to help the warden discover the dark past of the camp。I highly recommend this book because the characters are around my age so they are easy to relate to。 They go to the Rec Room on their breaks to spend time together and I like to go out for recess with my friends。 If you get this book, you won't be disappointed。 。。。more

Great book, and my 7th Graders really enjoyed it, but I cannot stand Stanley。 I remember writing a paper about how Stanley is a stereotypical white savior when I was in college and honestly he really is。 He is the least interesting character and just so blah, and a jerk to Zero! When I asked my classes who their favorite character was, no one said Stanley。

Totally late to this party, but Holes was amazing。 I had heard nothing but good things about this book, so I'm not really surprised! I just loved the way everything came together in the end, and I was definitely able to suspend my disbelief long enough for it。 ;-) I really enjoyed reading this with my 10-year-old, who would get ready for bed early every night so we could spend more time reading。 Totally late to this party, but Holes was amazing。 I had heard nothing but good things about this book, so I'm not really surprised! Such a great book! I know it’s supposed to be for teenagers, but it was just a really good story。 He tackled some tough subjects, too- like racism and bullying。 The way the different elements of the story all tied together (past and present) was pretty cool。

Childhood, very intertwined, everything links together。I like the character of Stanley。-onion blood= prevents deadly yellow spotted lizards biting you-talks about racism-very cute talks about racism, luck, character development

I love this book both for its nostalgia and also that my students loved it too! It's always interesting re-reading a book and having a younger perspectives and options。 I will never not recommend this book to younger readers especially boys in a 9-13 age range! A pretty good mystery novel spread across three timelines。 It's confusing to follow the characters at first what with the story jumping from one timeline to another, but it's also what makes it more exciting as you try to connect the dots。 A pretty good mystery novel spread across three timelines。 It's confusing to follow the characters at first what with the story jumping from one timeline to another, but it's also what makes it more exciting as you try to connect the dots。 。。。more

It's much related to personal taste, I don't like the hot, dry, messy feeling after around 50 pages。 No interst afterwards。 It's much related to personal taste, I don't like the hot, dry, messy feeling after around 50 pages。 No interst afterwards。 。。。more

Strange。 Lots of characters and all were super weird。 It doesn't make the book bad though。 I read it in like 5th grade and I think we had a final test about it。 ( It was a 100, btw) Equivalent to I understood it and I liked it, too。 Even though I never got to see the movie before, which they showed in class。 I like the punishment and the modesty。 And most of all - the no-showers part。 Otherwise it had good details and descriptive nobility。 Strange。 Lots of characters and all were super weird。 It doesn't make the book bad though。 I read it in like 5th grade and I think we had a final test about it。 ( It was a 100, btw) Equivalent to I understood it and I liked it, too。 Even though I never got to see the movie before, which they showed in class。 I like the punishment and the modesty。 And most of all - the no-showers part。 Otherwise it had good details and descriptive nobility。 。。。more

Although this is a book for "young readers", I picked it up because one of my grandkids had just read it, and because I have enjoyed some other "young reader" books such as the Little House books。 However, I did not enjoy this one。 I did like the way to whole story was titrated out and fit together, but I found it a little too contrived。 Although this is a book for "young readers", I picked it up because one of my grandkids had just read it, and because I have enjoyed some other "young reader" books such as the Little House books。 However, I did not enjoy this one。 I did like the way to whole story was titrated out and fit together, but I found it a little too contrived。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Thought I'd ease into reading with some light young adult fiction today。Really great storytelling among the different time periods and characters。 I really like Sachar's use of motifs。 Really makes it feel like the story goes full circle。 The way he incorporated everything together was very neat and tidy。 Kept me engaged。 What can I say? It was a fun re-read from my childhood。 Would recommend。 Thought I'd ease into reading with some light young adult fiction today。Really great storytelling among the different time periods and characters。 I really like Sachar's use of motifs。 Really makes it feel like the story goes full circle。 The way he incorporated everything together was very neat and tidy。 Kept me engaged。 What can I say? 4。5 starsI'm glad I read this first when I was younger。 It is repetitive as an adult; still great but a little annoying versus charming at points。 4。5 starsI'm glad I read this first when I was younger。 It is repetitive as an adult; still great but a little annoying versus charming at points。 。。。more
