Summary

An even longer time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, the adventures continue for Lula and her fellow Padawans in the Republic’s golden age!

The High Republic is an unexplored period in Star Wars history, set hundreds of years before the events of the Skywalker Saga—when the Jedi were at their height and Master Yoda was much younger, and still training Padawans in the field。

It is here where we find Jedi Padawans Farzala and Qort, who are taking a break from the ongoing battle against the dangerous marauders known as the Nihil。 As part of a secret mission, they join an aging Jedi Knight on the starship The Vessel to negotiate a peace treaty with the Hutt crime family。 Hey, what could go wrong? As it turns out: literally everything。

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures is part of a broader storytelling initiative exploring a mysterious, bygone era of the Galactic Republic through comics and prose。

Collects Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures issues #6–7, the 2021 Free Comic Book Day story, and more!

Story was pretty good。 A whole punch of padawans on missions etc。 it’s a different kind of story。 I just didn’t like how it wasn’t made with a lot of action

Some fun stuff here, but it's too scattered to make much of an impact。 The first half focuses on a character we haven't spent much time with before, and the unremarkable story doesn't do anything to develop him memorably。 The second half fares better, as it shifts back to the cast of the first volume—who have grown up a bit during the year-ish time jump, which, unfortunately, is poorly explained, so the change is pretty jarring。 But it's nice seeing that cast again, and I'm glad the next volume Some fun stuff here, but it's too scattered to make much of an impact。 The first half focuses on a character we haven't spent much time with before, and the unremarkable story doesn't do anything to develop him memorably。 The second half fares better, as it shifts back to the cast of the first volume—who have grown up a bit during the year-ish time jump, which, unfortunately, is poorly explained, so the change is pretty jarring。 But it's nice seeing that cast again, and I'm glad the next volume seems to be shifting focus back on them。The annual issue included here is the easy standout。 The collection of stories adds some fun dimensions by jumping backward in time to show us some of the earlier/earliest adventures of characters we know from the novels。 It's still nothing all that notable, but they're enjoyable reads, and the artwork is nice and unique。 As a whole, the artwork is hit-or-miss for me this time, but the colors remain top-notch。 I love Star Wars comics when they're vibrant, and this series is certainly that。 Overall, a pretty skippable collection, but I enjoy reading Star Wars stuff that's unabashedly geared toward younger readers because that's the age I was when I first got into the movies。 It's fun looking at it from that perspective。 。。。more

This volume of Adventures knocks it out of the park! Issues 6 and 7, which really focus on Farzala, are perhaps my favorite issues of the series since the first one, with excellent character work and Jedi wisdom, plus a stellar Into the Dark crossover! The Free Comic Book Day issue is a great time, too, taking place smack during the climax of The Rising Storm (and after Race to Crashpoint Tower)。 It's a wonderful bit of connective tissue that functions nicely on its own。I'm taking a star off beca This volume of Adventures knocks it out of the park! Two volumes deep into “The High Republic Adventures” comic site, and it’s become pretty clear that this series is basically meant to act as the ‘fun, if inessential’ pup of the “High Republic” line。 Writer Daniel Jose Olderr does a consistently good job, issue-to-issue, of telling stories that hold the reader’s attention, integrating colorful characters with witty narratives and a jovial overall vibe。 That the series itself seems to be steering away from the grander initiative-pushing narratives Two volumes deep into “The High Republic Adventures” comic site, and it’s become pretty clear that this series is basically meant to act as the ‘fun, if inessential’ pup of the “High Republic” line。 Writer Daniel Jose Olderr does a consistently good job, issue-to-issue, of telling stories that hold the reader’s attention, integrating colorful characters with witty narratives and a jovial overall vibe。 That the series itself seems to be steering away from the grander initiative-pushing narratives that characterize Marvel’s other “High Republic” series is less a fault and more a feature: “The High Republic Adventures” may not be the most “important” entry of the “High Republic” publishing line in terms of advancing the broader story, but it is among the most consistently enjoyable, month to month。 And that’s not nothing。 。。。more

I'm not connecting with these characters as well as some others, and I suspect some of that is due to artwork I don't like that well。 I'm not connecting with these characters as well as some others, and I suspect some of that is due to artwork I don't like that well。 。。。more

DJO deliverers another wonderful update to what has become my favorite ongoing series。 Wonderful side story with Fazala (wow, butchered that name), and I love what's his name (you know, Fazala's master), and even a guest appearance from everyone's favorite Vintian。 DJO deliverers another wonderful update to what has become my favorite ongoing series。 Wonderful side story with Fazala (wow, butchered that name), and I love what's his name (you know, Fazala's master), and even a guest appearance from everyone's favorite Vintian。 。。。more

Another great volume with more stellar artwork。 High Republic Adventures continues to set itself apart from other IDW Star Wars Adventure series。 Lightsabers, drama, Nihil。。。 What more could you ask for?
