I’ve read and loved every Karen M。 McManus book…that is until this one。This book suffers from several issues: a convoluted and often overly cliched plot， boring characters that are hard to care about， pages and pages of boredom broken up by underwhelming “twists” and conflicts。 Ultimately， this book feels very much like someone bored One of Us is Lying， took out all the good stuff， changed some details， and said that’ll work。One of the biggest let downs was the secrets that Cal， Ivy， and Mateo w I’ve read and loved every Karen M。 McManus book…that is until this one。This book suffers from several issues: a convoluted and often overly cliched plot， boring characters that are hard to care about， pages and pages of boredom broken up by underwhelming “twists” and conflicts。 Ultimately， this book feels very much like someone bored One of Us is Lying， took out all the good stuff， changed some details， and said that’ll work。One of the biggest let downs was the secrets that Cal， Ivy， and Mateo were hiding。 In particular Ivy’s childish prank that ruined an entire family’s livelihood because she was jealous of her brother。 Once it finally came out， I found myself rolling my eyes。 I’ve really enjoyed her other books， but even religious mystery/McManus readers should just skip this one。 。。。more

What a wholly uninspired book。 It’s a fairly standard YA mystery/thriller and brings absolutely nothing to the genre。 Overall it was a “fine” book I guess but there are so many wonderful books out there， don’t waste your time with this one。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 In the beginning I would have given this 3 stars but it really picked up in the second and third act。 So my final rating is 4 stars。 If I had to rank the books I've read from Karen， #1 would be The Cousins and #2 would be You'll Be the Death of Me。I really enjoy Karen McManus' writing when it comes to romance。 I can't put my finger on why but I do。 I fell in love with Ivy and Mateo from the beginning and I was happy to see them FINALLY get together。I would like to point of that some of these cha In the beginning I would have given this 3 stars but it really picked up in the second and third act。 So my final rating is 4 stars。 If I had to rank the books I've read from Karen， #1 would be The Cousins and #2 would be You'll Be the Death of Me。I really enjoy Karen McManus' writing when it comes to romance。 I can't put my finger on why but I do。 I fell in love with Ivy and Mateo from the beginning and I was happy to see them FINALLY get together。I would like to point of that some of these characters can be really toxic。。。 I'm looking at you Cal。 He said some really fucking mean shit。 He spilled Ivy's secret that she was pining over Mateo IN FRONT OF MATEO by bitching that Ivy wouldn't shut up about him。 TO LATER FIND OUT THAT HE WAS THE REASON THEY WEREN'T TOGETHER （well not the full reason but fuck！）。 I figured by the end of this book Cal and Ivy wouldn't be friends anymore。 Idk if she's gonna come back to this story （I HOPE SHE DOES）， but if she does I hope Cal works on his temper。Even though I just bitched about it， I still really enjoyed the drama。 I didn't always care for how they came out。。。 Karen was DETERMINED to keep every secret she could from audience。 And usually that's fine， I like figuring it out when the characters do。 BUT the book is told in multiple perspectives。 It was weird not always hearing it from them。 When we found out Cal took the candy and he said "I wanted to tell you earlier。" I SCREAMED！ WHEN DID YOU WANT TO TELL HER BECAUSE YOU SURE AS HELL DIDN'T TELL US [the audience]！！Anyways， guess I'll have to get my ass in gear and read One of Us Is Lying。 。。。more

Loved all of Karens books， they have all been good and gripped me in straight away and this one was no different but the ending wasn’t really what I thought it would be。 It definitely wasn’t the same to other endings in her books so I’m a little disappointed with that but everything else was brilliant。 Couldn’t wait to finish it but would have loved a different ending。 Still a good book to read

Wat een page turner is dit boek！Vanaf de eerste bladzijde werd ik gegrepen door het verhaal en daarna was het onmogelijk het boek neer te leggen。 Er zit een constante spanning in het verhaal met interessante personages die allemaal hun eigen verhaal meebrengen met de nodige bagage。 Dit boek is echt een aanrader voor iedereen die van spanning houdt met de nodige twists in het verhaal en een verrassend einde！

Holy shit！ Once again Karen M。 McManus delivers with an amazing and addictive teen mystery。 I legit didn’t put it down until my eyes were dying on me。 Love the characters and the plot， probably not as much as the Bayview High characters but still Ivy is me and I hope one day I will find my Mateo。

This will be the last McManus book I read。 None of them have lived up to one of us is lying （which I still need to watch the tv series）。 The friend group doesn’t live up to her first and I’m just having trouble with these teens solving big mysteries。 While the mystery was still enjoyable and I don’t solve it， just not as good as the first。 Maybe she’s sticking too close to her trope？
