Summary

Ivy, Mateo, and Cal used to be close。 Now all they have in common is Carlton High and the beginning of a very bad day。

Type A Ivy lost a student council election to the class clown, and now she has to face the school, humiliated。 Heartthrob Mateo is burned out--he's been working two jobs since his family's business failed。 And outsider Cal just got stood up。。。。 again。

So when Cal pulls into campus late for class and runs into Ivy and Mateo, it seems like the perfect opportunity to turn a bad day around。 They'll ditch and go into the city。 Just the three of them, like old times。 Except they've barely left the parking lot before they run out of things to say。。。

Until they spot another Carlton High student skipping school--and follow him to the scene of his own murder。 In one chance move, their day turns from dull to deadly。 And it's about to get worse。

It turns out Ivy, Mateo, and Cal still have some things in common。 They all have a connection to the dead kid。 And they're all hiding something。

Now they're all wondering--could it be that their chance reconnection wasn't by chance after all?

From the author of One of Us Is Lying comes a brand-new pulse-pounding thriller。 It's Ferris Bueller's Day Off with murder when three old friends relive an epic ditch day, and it goes horribly--and fatally--wrong。

The best book I’ve read by McManus by far! Very good plot development, and a twist I really didn’t see coming!

I’ve read and loved every Karen M。 McManus book…that is until this one。This book suffers from several issues: a convoluted and often overly cliched plot, boring characters that are hard to care about, pages and pages of boredom broken up by underwhelming “twists” and conflicts。 Ultimately, this book feels very much like someone bored One of Us is Lying, took out all the good stuff, changed some details, and said that’ll work。One of the biggest let downs was the secrets that Cal, Ivy, and Mateo w I’ve read and loved every Karen M。 McManus book…that is until this one。This book suffers from several issues: a convoluted and often overly cliched plot, boring characters that are hard to care about, pages and pages of boredom broken up by underwhelming “twists” and conflicts。 Ultimately, this book feels very much like someone bored One of Us is Lying, took out all the good stuff, changed some details, and said that’ll work。One of the biggest let downs was the secrets that Cal, Ivy, and Mateo were hiding。 In particular Ivy’s childish prank that ruined an entire family’s livelihood because she was jealous of her brother。 Once it finally came out, I found myself rolling my eyes。 I’ve really enjoyed her other books, but even religious mystery/McManus readers should just skip this one。 。。。more

What a wholly uninspired book。 It’s a fairly standard YA mystery/thriller and brings absolutely nothing to the genre。 Overall it was a “fine” book I guess but there are so many wonderful books out there, don’t waste your time with this one。

Greatest Day EverIvy, Cal, and Mateo have a lot going on。 So even though they are not as close as they once were, they decide to skip school together and see if the can recreate the the feeling of the day they skipped school six years prior。 Although the saying goes ”history repeats itself,” that is definitely not the case here。 The three get caught up in so much more than they should be involved in。 What nice about this book is that it isn’t overly predictable, as this genre can be at times。 Th Greatest Day EverIvy, Cal, and Mateo have a lot going on。 So even though they are not as close as they once were, they decide to skip school together and see if the can recreate the the feeling of the day they skipped school six years prior。 Although the saying goes ”history repeats itself,” that is definitely not the case here。 The three get caught up in so much more than they should be involved in。 What nice about this book is that it isn’t overly predictable, as this genre can be at times。 There were enough twists and conflicts to keep me guessing, and I was surprised at the outcome。 And how things played out afterwards。 。。。more

WHEN DID YOU WANT TO TELL HER BECAUSE YOU SURE AS HELL DIDN'T TELL US [the audience]!!Anyways, guess I'll have to get my ass in gear and read One of Us Is Lying。 。。。more

Another book I thoroughly enjoyed from Karen M。 McManus, that left me questioning everyone until the very last line。 It, like all of Karen's other books gave off a very big ✨Netflix teen drama vibe✨。 And I loved the multiple perspectives telling the story, allowing you to really understand the different characters。 However, I couldn't give it anything over 3 stars purely due to the high expectations I had following one of us is lying, and one of us is next, I just didn't think that this book was Another book I thoroughly enjoyed from Karen M。 McManus, that left me questioning everyone until the very last line。 It, like all of Karen's other books gave off a very big ✨Netflix teen drama vibe✨。 And I loved the multiple perspectives telling the story, allowing you to really understand the different characters。 However, I couldn't give it anything over 3 stars purely due to the high expectations I had following one of us is lying, and one of us is next, I just didn't think that this book was as well developed as those, and I found the relationships between the characters a little boring at times。 Overall, it was a good book but slightly disappointing when compared to her previous books 。。。more

Loved all of Karens books, they have all been good and gripped me in straight away and this one was no different but the ending wasn’t really what I thought it would be。 It definitely wasn’t the same to other endings in her books so I’m a little disappointed with that but everything else was brilliant。 Couldn’t wait to finish it but would have loved a different ending。 Still a good book to read

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 karen m。 mcmanus never lets me down。 I admire her plot twists and her cutesie little romances between the characters。 I thought that this book would have a love triangle between cal, ivy, and mateo, and it didn't。。。regardless, I loved it。 the reason why this review isn't four stars is because the ending pissed me off。 firstly, the gym coach being brian 'boney' mahoney's killer is so weird, because he was hardly mentioned throughout the novel until the end (he was only mentioned to say how kind karen m。 mcmanus never lets me down。 I admire her plot twists and her cutesie little romances between the characters。 I thought that this book would have a love triangle between cal, ivy, and mateo, and it didn't。。。regardless, I loved it。 the reason why this review isn't four stars is because the ending pissed me off。 firstly, the gym coach being brian 'boney' mahoney's killer is so weird, because he was hardly mentioned throughout the novel until the end (he was only mentioned to say how kind he was or that he was lara's fiancé)。 to be honest, I feel like it was a last-minute decision to make the coach the murderer。 the very last chapter managed to give me goosebumps though (when it was revealed that mateo's dad was dating lara)。。。although, I find it unrealistic (because she tried killing ivy and she knew about the drugs and didn't come forward, I feel like she would have been arrested)。 not only should lara be arrested, but wouldn't the dad know about all the trauma she caused? even if mateo doesn't speak to his dad, lara was still a key to most of the mystery, therefore, either mateo's mom would have mentioned her or mateo himself (I have no idea if this makes sense)。 so I find the ending bs。。。 I was super intrigued while reading though, I think that the first 3/4 of the book is amazing! and I love mateo (then again, I always have a thing for mcmanus' boys;))。 I also loved the friendship dynamic between the three protagonists。 I find that all of their personalities coordinate and compliment each other very well。 the book itself is really easy to read/get into。 I believe that if you like mystery novels, read it:) I really shouldn't be doing this, but whatever。 I wrote a novel, and I was wondering if you guys wanted to check it out: https://www。wattpad。com/story/2567569。。。 (that's the link)。 here's a plot summary: PAST: this story followed the life of emma marino。 a short, shy girl, who was a hopeless romantic。 when a sexy, depressed, australian man with the name of miles ericsson, waltzed into her life, her life was flipped upside down。 he brought her through his depression, as she shone a light into his life。 she showed him how content their lives could be together。 PRESENT: "what the hell have I done?" thanks:) 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 It was fun and entertaining to read。 I enjoyed the storyline and following the characters。 It never bored me。 I just never cared much for the mystery and felt like it was lacking。 Like the book was almost over and I was like what's going on? Holy shit! Once again Karen M。 McManus delivers with an amazing and addictive teen mystery。 I legit didn’t put it down until my eyes were dying on me。 Love the characters and the plot, probably not as much as the Bayview High characters but still Ivy is me and I hope one day I will find my Mateo。

This will be the last McManus book I read。 None of them have lived up to one of us is lying (which I still need to watch the tv series)。 The friend group doesn’t live up to her first and I’m just having trouble with these teens solving big mysteries。 While the mystery was still enjoyable and I don’t solve it, just not as good as the first。 Maybe she’s sticking too close to her trope?

Very similar to all of her other books。 Teenagers know someone who ends up dead, secrets quickly unravel as teens play detective。 Killer is found - someone you wouldn’t suspect。 Same outcome every time although the stories are about different people in different circumstances。 It’s almost like a TV series where the characters and the plot change but the setup is basically the same - black mirror type deal。 Feels like her books could just be one large series with teen sleuths。 I do enjoy them tho Very similar to all of her other books。 Teenagers know someone who ends up dead, secrets quickly unravel as teens play detective。 Killer is found - someone you wouldn’t suspect。 Same outcome every time although the stories are about different people in different circumstances。 It’s almost like a TV series where the characters and the plot change but the setup is basically the same - black mirror type deal。 Feels like her books could just be one large series with teen sleuths。 I do enjoy them though。 。。。more
