First book of this series was really good, but then I got tired of it。 Not sure I finished this one。

Other than some of the teen angst, I really enjoy these books。 I find the world interesting and complex and the villains are multi-dimensional (which is nice)。 Rolled right into Book 4。

Brent Weeks is a freaking evil genius。 Read these books。

Definitely the best Lightbringer book so far。 I was wondering whether this one would be as good as the others when some plot threads I was expecting to be major in this book got wrapped up very early on, but my expectations were blown out of the water as the book went on。Brent Weeks manages to take increasingly complex story threads and characters and make them easy to follow and maintain interest throughout the whole novel。In the past two books I found Gavin to be the standout character, but in Definitely the best Lightbringer book so far。 I was wondering whether this one would be as good as the others when some plot threads I was expecting to be major in this book got wrapped up very early on, but my expectations were blown out of the water as the book went on。Brent Weeks manages to take increasingly complex story threads and characters and make them easy to follow and maintain interest throughout the whole novel。In the past two books I found Gavin to be the standout character, but in this book Kip really stood out to me as having grown a lot, as well as Teia。 His interactions with the Red were incredibly well-written, and I loved seeing the new focus on the politics of the Chromeria。The ending left me in awe of Weeks’ storytelling abilities and very excited to read the next book。 。。。more

Fantastic series so far, 1-3 but lacks a bit in the world building for me。I'm far enough into the series where the characters are really developed。 I'm always eager for Kip to blurt out his comments。 Andross always catches me off guard and I love it。 The black guard members bring together a feeling of comradery with their light humorous banter。 The complexity of the magic system is phenomenal。 The only thing that lacks for me is the world building。 At this point in the book we know that their ex Fantastic series so far, 1-3 but lacks a bit in the world building for me。I'm far enough into the series where the characters are really developed。 I'm always eager for Kip to blurt out his comments。 Andross always catches me off guard and I love it。 The black guard members bring together a feeling of comradery with their light humorous banter。 The complexity of the magic system is phenomenal。 The only thing that lacks for me is the world building。 At this point in the book we know that their exists。。。 A creature。 The pirates speak of it often。 But that's it。 I would have loved to have read more of an 'Avatar' ecosystem with insects reflexing small bits of luxin in mating rituals or something。 Anything。 Instead the entire world feels like 1。 the chomeria, 2。 the seer island, 3。 the color kings continent。 This is it。 This is like having 1。 The Vatican in Rome, 2。 Malta island, and 3。 The Algiers coast。 The book is still fantastic。 The series is excellent。 It's just a small personal opinion which doesn't really affect the story as it does my imagination。 Only for this small reason is my rating a 4star and not a 5star perfection。 The only other thing that bothered me in this specific book is (view spoiler)[ we find out towards the end of the book that Gavin has been gone from the Chomeria for two years。 They say, the Chomeria cannot hold out from nominating a Prism select when the Prism himself has been gone for almost 2 years。 This sudden jolt if information makes me feel as is Olivia and the Colored prince/king have done nothing for 2 years。 Now I'm thinking, wait, if he's been gone that long what has everyone else been doing? What's Donovan and the Seer up to? Did the book just focus on Thea and forget to mention anyone else? (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Exciting at the start and end but felt really slow to me in the middle。 Curious about the rest of the series but might need to take another break for awhile before jumping back in, this was a commitment for sure。

Weeks is doing great with all of the separate plot lines created by his unique and distinguishable characters。 There are twists and revelations that feel appropriate and character growth that feels right。 On top of that, there is a lot of new lore/ world-building introduced in this book, and some of it breaks my brain。 So it was a fun read。Weeks tendency to write surprise clusters of swearing and unneeded fan-service continues to be the worst part of his writing。 It's just not funny。 It only ser Weeks is doing great with all of the separate plot lines created by his unique and distinguishable characters。 There are twists and revelations that feel appropriate and character growth that feels right。 On top of that, there is a lot of new lore/ world-building introduced in this book, and some of it breaks my brain。 So it was a fun read。Weeks tendency to write surprise clusters of swearing and unneeded fan-service continues to be the worst part of his writing。 It's just not funny。 It only serves to pull me out of world 🤷‍♂️ 。。。more

I just couldn’t finish this book。 The series started great, but then I just found it more of a chore to read than enjoyable。 The language became too strong for me, and I can handle language if it makes sense。 And the story became less appealing and less interesting。

Over 700 pages, breakneck pacing, a world built more richly with each page, the Lightbringer series has made me fall in love with fantasy novels again。 I haven’t read much fantasy since Lord Of The Rings in high school。 I didn’t think anything could hold up to the humanity, story, and worlds that Tolkien created。 Now I’m not saying I love this as much as LOTR but I will say that it makes me want to find out what other authors are out there that can carry a tired mind and soul who needs escape in Over 700 pages, breakneck pacing, a world built more richly with each page, the Lightbringer series has made me fall in love with fantasy novels again。 I haven’t read much fantasy since Lord Of The Rings in high school。 I didn’t think anything could hold up to the humanity, story, and worlds that Tolkien created。 Now I’m not saying I love this as much as LOTR but I will say that it makes me want to find out what other authors are out there that can carry a tired mind and soul who needs escape in written form on occasion。 This book had so many plot twists that it genuinely made me say “no” out loud multiple times and I haven’t been surprised like that since the Red Wedding。 I picked up the 4th book with my boys yesterday at Barnes and Noble so we could ride the escalators。 We went up and down about ten times。 #goreadthisseries 。。。more

I felt this book slowed down a lot in the early-middle。 Lots of manuvering with not a lot of progress。 Then the engines turned back on and the book hummed right along for the remainder。 Stayed up way to late reading the last 250 pages in one night。

This book was probably my least favorite in the series so far, though I did still think the story was good! I didn't like this one as much just because it was a lot more political than the others and its main purpose was to set up the main story arc for the last 2 books in the series。 As always, Brent Weeks pulls many plot twists throughout the the book, but especially at the end。 The last 70 pages of the book were great and I enjoyed that part so much! The third installment of Brent Weeks’ Lightbringer series, The Broken Eye, is a wild adventure full of twists and turns and the political intrigue readers have come to expect from the series。 The book begins with Gavin Guile the prisoner of Gunner, pirate captain extraordinaire。 Kip continues his training in the Chromeria, while Karris finds herself ousted from the Blackguards and running the White’s spy network。While the books up to now have been about Gavin and Kip (to a much lesser extent), t The third installment of Brent Weeks’ Lightbringer series, The Broken Eye, is a wild adventure full of twists and turns and the political intrigue readers have come to expect from the series。 The book begins with Gavin Guile the prisoner of Gunner, pirate captain extraordinaire。 Kip continues his training in the Chromeria, while Karris finds herself ousted from the Blackguards and running the White’s spy network。While the books up to now have been about Gavin and Kip (to a much lesser extent), this volume is very much Andross Guile’s story。 We finally see the old spider at work in a substantial way here。 Gavin is on the decline, Karris, Liv, and Kip are all ascendant, but Andross appears to be at the pinnacle of his power and ability。 He is fully revealed as the central villain of the series, with the Color Prince taking a back seat (in fact, not appearing directly throughout the entire book) and the war in the satrapies feeling like distant and near-meaningless conflicts。I thought this was a good entry in the series, with my only criticisms feeling more like quibbles than outright problems。 A story this large tends to get a little loose around the edges, and Lightbringer is no exception。 There are storylines that were put on pause or stretched thin just so we could have all our focus on the main threads。 We may revisit these neglected stories in the next volume, but that brings an imbalance to the storytelling that is always a drawback in this sort of epic storytelling。 There are also overly-convenient infodumps that pop up more often than they should, contributing to a sense of sloppy worldbuilding。 We are given a piece of information, then a hasty background explanation for the thing that all the characters already knew about but had to explain to each other anyway。 Not a huge problem, but not great either。Overall, I was happy with this book and I look forward to continuing the series with book 4: The Blood Mirror。 。。。more

Lots of nice twists and turns。 Characters are really coming into their own, and I'm very interested to see how all of the plot points will be wrapped up in the next two books。 Lots of nice twists and turns。 Characters are really coming into their own, and I'm very interested to see how all of the plot points will be wrapped up in the next two books。 。。。more

Exceptional。This series is excellent。 I enjoy the characters, the world and the magic。 What I am enjoying most at this point is thinking back and seeing just how far the characters have come in only three books。 The world is moving in different directions, and I can't help but wonder how this "mess" could ever possibly be resolved。If you love fantasy, magic (with limits), and intrigue, you will enjoy this one a lot。 I can't wait to dive into the next one。 Exceptional。This series is excellent。 I enjoy the characters, the world and the magic。 What I am enjoying most at this point is thinking back and seeing just how far the characters have come in only three books。 The world is moving in different directions, and I can't help but wonder how this "mess" could ever possibly be resolved。If you love fantasy, magic (with limits), and intrigue, you will enjoy this one a lot。 I can't wait to dive into the next one。 。。。more

8。9/10The third book in the “Lightbringer” story gave me a little more mixed feelings than the first two books。 While the story is still progressing at a good rate and the world building and character work haven’t taken a drop in quality, there are starting to be some smaller issues that I am having with the book。 It seems quite blatant now that Weeks decided he wanted to go more of a political route in this series。 The first book was lots of action while the second book was much more political。 8。9/10The third book in the “Lightbringer” story gave me a little more mixed feelings than the first two books。 While the story is still progressing at a good rate and the world building and character work haven’t taken a drop in quality, there are starting to be some smaller issues that I am having with the book。 It seems quite blatant now that Weeks decided he wanted to go more of a political route in this series。 The first book was lots of action while the second book was much more political。 This book was almost 100% politics, scheming, backstabbing, and spying。 I was expecting this to pretty much end with the last book and it was pretty surprising to have this entire book be focused on that, especially with how long this book is compared to the rest of the series。 I don’t have a problem with this type of book it just isn’t what I was expecting since Weeks seems to thrive much more when writing good plot, action and his magic system。 All of these things pretty much took a backseat this book which was a little disappointing。 Weeks is at his best when he’s being creative with his extremely well fleshed out magic system or writing huge battles or fight sequences。 That is what I wanted to see more of in this book and I really hope that this is the last book that deals so heavily with politics。 The other issue that I am having is how poorly “The Mighty” is being written and handled。 This has been such a mature, gritty and sometimes cruel story that doesn’t shy away from how brutal life can be and I love this series for that。 That is why it is so distracting and ruins my immersion in the story when the plot switches to Kip and his friends。 Unlike my problems with Kip in the last two books, he has matured and become a character that while I don’t exactly love yet, he isn’t near as annoying as he was。 The problem is how him and his friends are written ONLY when they are with each other。 When a younger character is in a scene with an older mature character, Week seems to write the younger character to be more mature to match the older characters maturity level。 I think this is a good move for the most part, but the problem comes in when only younger characters are together。 It is such a stark contrast on how they act around each other that its painful。 It can be downright cringy at times and I just do not think it is necessary。 Yes, these are younger people ranging from 16 to 19 but at that age combined with all of the hardships and training and upbringings these characters have had, they should not be acting like this in my opinion。 I know that Weeks is trying to portray them as still being kids thrown into this situation, but it could have been written better。 While these two issues were starting to nag at me during my reading of “The Broken Eye”, I am still thoroughly enjoying this series and have high hopes for the last two books。 。。。more

3rd book in series。 By now you have read 2 books in this series and know that if you like Sanderson, you will probably like Weeks。 You will also know if you like this series。 Big cast of characters, simple magic system, politics, secrets within secrets。 Who is good, who is bad, who thinks they are on the side of right? While I found much of this book kind of dragged on for me, the set ups and the ending were great。 Worth reading through and ready for the next。
