„Secolul singurătății” este， probabil， una dintre cele mai bune cărți pe care le-am citit în 2021， iar acest lucru nu se datorează doar actualității temei （întrucât tratează， printre altele， și efectele pandemiei și ale digitalizării asupra modului în care ne raportăm la cei din jur）， ci mai ales faptului că autoarea a optat pentru o abordare pluridisciplinară， prezentând aplicabilitatea unor teorii din domeniul psihologiei， sociologiei sau științelor politice cu privire la construirea relațiilo „Secolul singurătății” este， probabil， una dintre cele mai bune cărți pe care le-am citit în 2021， iar acest lucru nu se datorează doar actualității temei （întrucât tratează， printre altele， și efectele pandemiei și ale digitalizării asupra modului în care ne raportăm la cei din jur）， ci mai ales faptului că autoarea a optat pentru o abordare pluridisciplinară， prezentând aplicabilitatea unor teorii din domeniul psihologiei， sociologiei sau științelor politice cu privire la construirea relațiilor interumane într-o lume din ce în ce mai dezbinată。 Cu toții am trăit， într-o mai mică sau mai mare măsură， izolarea și singurătatea în ultimii doi ani， însă realitatea este că spiritul comunității a început să se dezintegreze cu mai mult timp în urmă。 Poate atunci când ne-am mutat într-un loc nou și nu am depus niciun efort să ne cunoaștem vecinii sau să creăm legături noi？ Poate atunci când， în contextul politicilor de austeritate impuse de criza financiară din 2008， au început să dispară sau să fie reconfigurate spațiile în care oamenii se puteau strânge laolaltă， precum centrele culturale， bibliotecile publice， parcurile sau cluburile pentru tineret？ Poate atunci când tehnologia ne-a invadat intimitatea， iar rețelele sociale au devenit parte din viața noastră， dându-ne iluzia că nu vom mai fi niciodată singuri dacă avem sute de prieteni virtuali？Criza singurătății ar preceda， însă， toate aceste evenimente， iar rădăcinile ei s-ar fi format， de fapt， încă din anii ’80， odată cu apariția neoliberalismului， o ideologie care ar încuraja individualismul și împlinirea personală， în detrimentul binelui colectiv。 Noreena Hertz consideră că oamenii au devenit， astfel， rivali， dezvoltând un anumit grad de suspiciune cu privire la adevăratele intenții ale celor din jur， ceea ce i-a îndepărtat， în cele din urmă， de comunitate și de activitățile de grup。 Chiar dacă în acest mod， foarte mulți indivizi au cunoscut succesul， având mai mult timp să investească în dezvoltarea lor profesională， ei au devenit și mai predispuși la boală （singurătatea determină， printre altele， și amplificarea impactului surselor de stres din jurul nostru） și mai dependenți de mijloacele alternative de petrecere a timpului liber， care nu implică interacțiunile fizice cu alți oameni， ci utilizarea unui dispozitiv digital。Este aproape imposibil să ne imaginăm， în momentul de față， viețile fără ecranele în fața cărora ne desfășurăm activitatea profesională sau comunicăm cu oamenii dragi， atunci când anumiți factori externi ne împiedică să îi vedem atât de des pe cât ne-am dori。 Ceea ce trebuie să facem， însă， este să nu ne izolăm în aceste „bule digitale”， să nu alegem să ne petrecem seara urmărind un videoclip pe YouTube sau verificând noutățile din cronologia noastră pe Facebook， în loc să fim atenți la ceea ce partenerul nostru ne povestește sau să dăm un telefon cuiva apropiat。 Autoarea consideră că inițiativele în această direcție ar trebui să vină， în primul rând， din partea autorităților， având în vedere capacitatea lor de a lua măsuri sociale destinate sprijinirii celor afectați de singurătate， însă， în cele din urmă， noi suntem cei care creăm societatea。 Fiecare individ poate și are puterea de a schimba ceva în propria viață， precum și în a celor din jur。 Provocarea este， însă， aceea de a ne schimba， înainte de orice， mentalitatea și de a ne aminti că ceea ce a determinat progresul omenirii a fost dezvoltarea capacității de a colabora și de a-și însuși spiritul colectiv。 。。。more

Well researched with examples from around the globe， shows how some megatrends interact。First 2 chapters deal with how loneliness affects humans on an individual level （e。g。， physical health）， next two chapters deal with how loneliness affects people on a societal level （e。g。 in cities）， two chapters deal with the workforce and commerce; one chapter is about loneliness with respect to sex and love， and the final chapters are about improving things。

Love this book and eye-opening。 I am shocked about how lonely people in modern world。 Esp in developed countries where in general， it is not a lacking of materialistic enjoyment。 It is the empty soul and missing the connection with human。 Great book to read！ Highly recommended。

I picked up this book because I had been struggling with overwhelming feelings of loneliness。 I grew up in a small town where I was bullied for most of my childhood。 I moved to a big city to start over， meet new like minded people and have an abundant social life。 Sadly I discovered life in the city was very anonymous and people aren't very friendly。 Of course the pandemic hasn't made things easier。This book pretty much confirmed a lot of these observations I have made over the last 5 years。 It I picked up this book because I had been struggling with overwhelming feelings of loneliness。 I grew up in a small town where I was bullied for most of my childhood。 I moved to a big city to start over， meet new like minded people and have an abundant social life。 Sadly I discovered life in the city was very anonymous and people aren't very friendly。 Of course the pandemic hasn't made things easier。This book pretty much confirmed a lot of these observations I have made over the last 5 years。 It explained how modern economic， political and social phenomena do contribute to increased feelings of disconnection， anonymity and as a result， loneliness。 At the same time it shares a lot of her ideas of how you can become more connected with society as an individual。Of course it isn't an academic journal， but it isn't meant to be。 The book is more written from observations， personal interpretation and suggestions。 Some of them are backed by research， some of them are pure speculation。 However， the book is aimed at starting discussions and getting people to think。 Think about the world around you and start asking questions。 What do I think about society as it is？ Do I like the way it is now？ If not， what needs to be done and what can you do？ I started reading this book because I already had a lot of these questions。 How come life in a big city， where I am surrounded by people all the time is just as lonely as living in a small isolated village？ It definitely got me thinking and started a discussion in my head。 On the one hand it made me feel like I wasn't alone， but at the same time it made me feel powerless and on the other hand it motivated me to reach out to people more often。 I really think more people need to read this book， just to start thinking about things。 Perhaps when we all start asking ourselves the right questions， we can change the world。 。。。more
