These LOTR books are great stories, but they are so slow。 This book picked up for me a bit at the end。 I would love a bit more action and a bit less description at times, but I think this is just the writing style。 I was still thoroughly entertained, I just have the unpopular opinion that this book is not worth the hype。 Great level of detail- I can imagine this world so clearly。

It's been 10 years since I first read Fellowship, so finally getting to this book feels like a monumental task completed。 And, I have to say, I liked this book more than I thought I would and I believe that if I read The Two Towers back when I was a wee bean I probably wouldn't have appreciated it as much。 So, good on my younger self for knowing my brain needed more incubation time before I read more Tolkien XD (we'll just say that's what it was)。 I liked the second half of the book the best。 Sa It's been 10 years since I first read Fellowship, so finally getting to this book feels like a monumental task completed。 And, I have to say, I liked this book more than I thought I would and I believe that if I read The Two Towers back when I was a wee bean I probably wouldn't have appreciated it as much。 So, good on my younger self for knowing my brain needed more incubation time before I read more Tolkien XD (we'll just say that's what it was)。 I liked the second half of the book the best。 Sam and Frodo have always been my fave BFFs for life。 Here's to hopefully not another decade before I get to Return of the King。 。。。more

It bugs me that Goodreads has this broken into 3 separate books。 It is really one large book。

Very hard to put down。 Lots of adventure and surprise twists。 I love Treebeard the Ent。 It was great to see the friendship between Legolas and Gimli, and of course the loving friendship between Frodo and Sam。What hasn’t aged well is the servant-master stuff between Sam and Frodo, nor the army of evil black men from the south。

As I gaze my eyes upon the literature printed magnificently upon the pages of this book, I have come to the conclusion that this book SLAPS!!

Questo secondo libro è stato meraviglioso 😍 Aspettavo l'entrata in scena di Gollum dall'inizio del libro e non mi ha deluso! Non vedo l'ora di finire quest'avventura meravigliosa! Love the story, characters and the relationships! Especially Sam and Frodo, but all the fellowship! So much loyalty and constant effort for good。

I got bogged down in the middle of this volume the first time I read through the Tolkien trilogy; for years The Two Towers sat on my shelf unfinished; that much I remember, as to when that was, it was anybody's guess, but I started volume two during high school (late 60s), and probably finished reading it during college, over the following four years。 I got bogged down in the middle of this volume the first time I read through the Tolkien trilogy; for years The Two Towers sat on my shelf unfinished; that much I remember, as to when that was, it was anybody's guess, but I started volume two during high school (late 60s), and probably finished reading it during college, over the following four years。 。。。more

Again, not so much to say besides that it was even better than The Fellowship of the Ring。 I absolutely loved reading this one, and I cannot wait to start The Return of the King! I really enjoyed the character development here, especially Frodo's kindness towards Gollum, and of course the total devotion Sam has for Frodo。 Sam definitely is my favourite character so far! I also really loved Gimli and Legolas's friendship, they are so wholesome。 However, I kind of disliked the way the book is cons Again, not so much to say besides that it was even better than The Fellowship of the Ring。 I absolutely loved reading this one, and I cannot wait to start The Return of the King! A mio avviso molto più bello del primo, più avvincente e meno descrittivo。

I am under no illusion here。。。 if I wouldn't love the movies I probably would not have liked this all that much。 (then again if I wouldn't love the movies I would've definitely dnf'd book 1 therefor I would've never read this to begin with。)Anyway: I adore this story and while I personally prefer the movies I did definitely have a good time with this (even though I took an intense break in the middle of the book) I am under no illusion here。。。 if I wouldn't love the movies I probably would not have liked this all that much。 (then again if I wouldn't love the movies I would've definitely dnf'd book 1 therefor I would've never read this to begin with。)Anyway: I adore this story and while I personally prefer the movies I did definitely have a good time with this (even though I took an intense break in the middle of the book) 。。。more

I listened to the Andy Serkis narration and it was absolutely wonderful! He’s outstanding in capturing the different characters’ personas and giving them their voice。 I’m also recognizing differences between the book and the Peter Jackson movie; and I’m not sure why Jackson made some of his changes (e。g。 what Gollum does with the food during the climb to Cirith Ungul is not in the book and I’m not certain that Jackson’s change makes that much of a difference- so why do it?

Excellent。 Could not put the book down。 Story telling at its best。

📖🗡💍🏙 The Two TowersI liked this a bit better then the first book。 There weren't as many songs and the songs that were in the book were necessary to the plot and to explain the past history。 This book wasn't as slow as the first, but still maintained the feeling as if you were going on a very long journey。 This book didn't bore me at all。 It was pretty entertaining although I like the first half with Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Gandalf, Pippin, and Merry better than the second part which was about F 📖🗡💍🏙 The Two TowersI liked this a bit better then the first book。 There weren't as many songs and the songs that were in the book were necessary to the plot and to explain the past history。 This book wasn't as slow as the first, but still maintained the feeling as if you were going on a very long journey。 This book didn't bore me at all。 It was pretty entertaining although I like the first half with Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Gandalf, Pippin, and Merry better than the second part which was about Frodo, Sam, and Gollum。 Still, the second half was good。 There were a few bits of history I didn't really understand but I probably will after reading the Silmarillion。 On to Return of the King。 。。。more

I had some issues at the beginning of 'The Two Towers' - I thought it was boring, going in circles, and I was concerned that the entire book will keep the same tone for me。 Because it's split between part 1 - Legolas, Aragorn and Gimli and part 2 - Frodo and Sam, if you don't particularly care about the dynamics between one of these groups, that part will be tedious to go through。And ultimately, yes, it does suffer from the middle book syndrome of the story not progressing。 There is less intrigu I had some issues at the beginning of 'The Two Towers' - I thought it was boring, going in circles, and I was concerned that the entire book will keep the same tone for me。 Because it's split between part 1 - Legolas, Aragorn and Gimli and part 2 - Frodo and Sam, if you don't particularly care about the dynamics between one of these groups, that part will be tedious to go through。And ultimately, yes, it does suffer from the middle book syndrome of the story not progressing。 There is less intrigue, less mystery, and the characters continue on this journey without hitting any memorable milestones。But! This book also introduced my favourite character - Treebeard。 The Ents are fascinating, some of the oldest creatures in the universe, more tree than human, with a plethora of stories, a big heart and immense wisdom。 They live off of only liquids, that they happily share with Merry and Pippin。 I also enjoyed a couple of the other beats - the return of Gandalf, the unmasking of Wormtongue, coming face to face with Gollum, and Sam's acts of loyalty。 Again, the characters we meet episodically are hugely curious, and you feel like you want to unpack their entire history, layer upon layer of who they are。 Frodo and Sam are still relatively plain, but by the end of the read I discovered that I am getting used to Tolkien's heroic fairytale, and while it's still not my perfect style, I can find enjoyment in it。I now feel more like Middle Earth is a universe I like being a part of, 'The Fellowship of the Ring' didn't quite give me this immersiveness and commitment。 So even though tedious and meh in parts, I ended it on a high。 。。。more

Another one that needs no introduction。 It's hard to find words that haven't been used to describe this book in past reviews so I'll just go with wow。 The Two Towers picks up where the Fellowship ended, in literal terms, with the dividing of the group。 Further epic adventures are had by each with the introduction of such legendary characters as the Ents, meeting Saruman for the first time and of course the Rohirrim。 I've never read a fantasy novel that portrays a epic battle like that of helms d Another one that needs no introduction。 It's hard to find words that haven't been used to describe this book in past reviews so I'll just go with wow。 The Two Towers picks up where the Fellowship ended, in literal terms, with the dividing of the group。 Further epic adventures are had by each with the introduction of such legendary characters as the Ents, meeting Saruman for the first time and of course the Rohirrim。 I've never read a fantasy novel that portrays a epic battle like that of helms deep。 It's just incredible and vivid and puts you right at the heart of it all。 But the most incredible scene is saved for true hero of the tale in Samwise Gamgee。 That fight with Shelob is the stuff of legend。 The emotional rollcoster of thinking Frodo is dead!? It felt like it did the first time I read it。 Anger, sadness, the need to fight that huge spider along with Sam。 Just wow! "not asleep, dead"。 I don't think I've ever cheered for a character as much as Sam, and that's a literal cheer out loud when he stuck that spider! This is only my second read through of LOTR and it's definitely gotten better with age。 It's easy to see why this will live forever in history as a work of unbeatable fantasy。5 stars and never a consideration for less。 。。。more

Second half (Frodo/Sam/Gollum hijinks) way better than plodding sort of pointless first half。 Tolkien’s masterful ability to convey a huge amount of material in a relatively short amount of time — still can’t get to the damn point。 Immense sense of scale and setting, descriptions of shelob in particular truly terrifying and visceral。 Wonderful 2nd half full of emotion and pain and grit: much realer than high fantasy normally allows (looking at you, first half)

。。。more

This book is so good。 The battle between good and evil continues and tracks both the company and Frodo with the ring。 I loved how intertwined the stories were to show when certain events occurred on the two journeys。 I took time between the first two books, but my very next book I will have to finish the story!

The second of the trilogy was a great read and so full of charming description throughout。 I loved having to keep referring to the map which really immersed me into each of the narratives。The story is far from over so it seems strange leaving a review at this point but if we’re to give an impartial account, I would say the first part of book two was slightly more engaging than the second part。 I mean, Ents, Gandalf and Riders of Rohan!

Some time ago, I developed a technique for reading The Two Towers。 I get two bookmarks and I read a chapter of the first part, and then a chapter of the second part, and so on until I’ve finished the book。 Otherwise, Frodo and Sam’s trip through the wasteland with Gollum goes on for ever。 The first part of the book is very exciting, the second part not so much, and this technique evens up the pace。 Don’t do it if you haven’t read the book or seen the film before, though, as there’s one spoiler i Some time ago, I developed a technique for reading The Two Towers。 I get two bookmarks and I read a chapter of the first part, and then a chapter of the second part, and so on until I’ve finished the book。 Otherwise, Frodo and Sam’s trip through the wasteland with Gollum goes on for ever。 The first part of the book is very exciting, the second part not so much, and this technique evens up the pace。 Don’t do it if you haven’t read the book or seen the film before, though, as there’s one spoiler if you do。If you haven’t read the book or seen the film, stop reading now because I am about to reveal spoilers。I love the chase across Rohan, the developing friendship between Legolas and Gimli, the bits in the Forest of Fangorn, the meeting with Faramir in Ithilien, and the way that Sam’s character and wit develops。 We also start to see the gradual revelation of Aragorn’s kingship。It’s a bit jarring how Sam refers to and thinks of Frodo as his master。 I also think that it’s weird how Gollum also does this。 The references to orcs and the men of the south as “swart” and “swarthy” is also dodgy。 As a child I didn’t think that they were black, I just thought of them as ill-favoured white people。Overall the action of “The Two Towers” moves a lot faster than “The Fellowship of the Ring”。Faramir is my favourite character in the whole book, and it really annoyed me that the movie made him try to get the Ring to Gondor, presumably because the Ring is portrayed as all-powerful in the movie。 Tolkien makes it clear that there are people who can resist its allure and that Faramir is one of them (Tom Bombadil is another)。 It seems to be people who love Nature and are not motivated by power。 The movie should have respected Tolkien’s handling of this concept。 。。。more

I’m gonna say it。 Two Towers is the worst Lord of the Rings book AND movie。 My one complaint with Fellowship was the pacing, but the pacing in this book is worse。 Not because it is poorly paced necessarily, but due to the conscious decision to split the book into two halves, one half following Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Merry and Pippin (frankly the more interesting half) then have the second half jump back to the same chronological point and tell the story of Frodo, Sam, and Gollum (which I think I’m gonna say it。 Two Towers is the worst Lord of the Rings book AND movie。 My one complaint with Fellowship was the pacing, but the pacing in this book is worse。 Not because it is poorly paced necessarily, but due to the conscious decision to split the book into two halves, one half following Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Merry and Pippin (frankly the more interesting half) then have the second half jump back to the same chronological point and tell the story of Frodo, Sam, and Gollum (which I think is less interesting) is a massive loss of momentum for me。 I think if the book alternated between perspectives chapter by chapter would have been to its benefit。 However, everything else is spot on。 It expands on the story and while Fellowship sometime feels smalltime and lower stakes, Two Towers ups the ante in terms of characters, world, politics, and scale。 Loved it。 。。。more

O mais fraco dos três, embora seja o melhor filme。 Falar que um LotR é o mais fraco é como falar que o Poderoso Chefão III é o pior
