Summary

A gym nemesis pushes a fitness influencer to the max in Amy Lea's steamy debut romantic comedy。

Curvy fitness influencer Crystal Chen built her career shattering gym stereotypes and mostly ignoring the trolls。 After her recent breakup, she has little stamina left for men, instead finding solace in the gym - her place of power and positivity。

Enter firefighter Scott Ritchie, the smug new gym patron who routinely steals her favorite squat rack。 Sparks fly as these ultra-competitive foes battle for gym domination。 But after a series of escalating jabs, the last thing they expect is to run into each other at their grandparents' engagement party。

In the lead up to their grandparents' wedding, Crystal discovers there's a soft heart under Scott's muscled exterior。 Bonding over family, fitness, and cheesy pick-up lines, she just might have found her swolemate。 But when a photo of them goes viral, savage internet trolls put their budding relationship to the ultimate test of strength。

If you enjoyed The Love Hypothesis or The Spanish Love Deception, you’re going to enjoy this。 The pace of the writing is fun, the banter isn’t repetitive, you don’t feel the story dragging anywhere, and the addition of Albus is perfect。 And who doesn’t love a firefighter in a romance novel?

Thank you to Edelweiss and the publisher for the eARC! This book is ADORABLE。 I'm all in for an enemies to friends to lovers romance with a plus-size, gym-loving heroine。 Scott is a really great blend of earnest and sexy, and I love how their relationship is built on laughter and being comfortable with one another。 I'm crossing my fingers for a sequel with Tara (and Trevor, perhaps?)。 Thank you to Edelweiss and the publisher for the eARC! This book had the potential to be fun, but the writing was too choppy and the characters were blah。 I had hoped they would spark more interest and be more enjoyable, but alas, it was just too much。 Maybe I'm not in the right mode to enjoy this book, but it was just predictable, which I don't always mind, but this was just downright annoying。 And the blogging and texting parts made this book be something that will be dated too quickly。 The characters were frustrating, they were oblivious and then This book had the potential to be fun, but the writing was too choppy and the characters were blah。 I had hoped they would spark more interest and be more enjoyable, but alas, it was just too much。 Maybe I'm not in the right mode to enjoy this book, but it was just predictable, which I don't always mind, but this was just downright annoying。 And the blogging and texting parts made this book be something that will be dated too quickly。 The characters were frustrating, they were oblivious and then drama, and then the big apology which should make everything fine, but here's the problem, the book is trying to hard to be cute and realistic, and the story couldn't handle both。 That's the drawback of trying too hard, if it would have just been cute and cheesy that would've worked better。 It was ok at best, but that's giving it more credit than it should have。 Just didn't work for me。 Thanks to NetGalley and Edelweiss for the ARCs! 。。。more

Three pages in and I already knew I would love this book。 Amy depicts my daily gym interactions and pet peeves perfectly within the first few pages, so I was hooked from the beginning。 As a gym rat myself, I feel like this book was MADE for me。 I go to the gym 5-6 days a week, and as a somewhat curvy lady myself, I related so much to almost every part of Crystal’s story。 It goes in depth on how Crystal deals with negative comments from others, not letting those determine her worth, how societies Three pages in and I already knew I would love this book。 Amy depicts my daily gym interactions and pet peeves perfectly within the first few pages, so I was hooked from the beginning。 As a gym rat myself, I feel like this book was MADE for me。 I go to the gym 5-6 days a week, and as a somewhat curvy lady myself, I related so much to almost every part of Crystal’s story。 It goes in depth on how Crystal deals with negative comments from others, not letting those determine her worth, how societies beauty standards have played a part in her battle with self-acceptance, and learning about her inner and outer beauty。 I have struggled with these things and my own body image since I can remember, and it's definitely a constant battle that never fully ends。 I really appreciated how the author depicted this throughout Crystal's story。 She even mentions how her sister is a bookstagrammer, and I couldn’t help but giggle at that little shoutout to all us booksta baddies。 Plus, Crystal's wardrobe consists solely of leggings, sweats, and workout clothes, and she would rather stay home or go to the gym than go to a club。 Same。 Now for my boy Scott: picture Chris Evans while you read and you will perfectly capture Scott’s essence。 No literally, picture Chris Evans, because that’s what Amy had in mind when writing his character and she did him JUSTICE。 Oh, and he is a firefighter。 Come on ladies, don’t lie to me or yourself and say you aren’t into firefighters。 Yeah, that’s what I thought。 Their banter? Hot。 Their first kiss? So hot。 Them working out together? Hot (also goals)。 Scott calls her Crys for short which I think is adorable, and sometimes calls her smart-ass, which always makes me blush because for some reason it’s one of my all-time favorite nicknames。 Overall it was just a really sweet story and I related to so much of it that it has a special place in my heart。 AND THIS WAS HER DEBUT NOVEL!! Has Amy Lea become an insta-buy author for me? Yes, yes she has, and I can’t wait for more。 Set on You comes out May 10, 2022。 Get your hands on it as soon as you can, you won't regret it!! Crystal Chen is a millennial personal trainer and body positivity "fitstagrammer", aka she's internet famous for posting great workouts and not being a size zero。 Scott Ritchie is the hunky fireman who steals her workout equipment and interrupts her when she's recording her workouts at the gym。 When these two gym rats realize their grandparents are getting married, they're suddenly thrown together on the regular and can't deny the chemistry between them。 There was a lot to like about this debut novel from Amy Lea。 Scott was such a swoony hero, and I laughed out loud at the antics of some of the extended family。 The meet-cute between Crystal and Scott was so funny, and I really appreciated that we get to see them together so much (the IKEA scene was my favorite!) However, I really struggled with the conflict in this book which is ultimately what bumped down my rating。 (view spoiler)[ Crystal has a complete crisis of confidence when she goes public with her smoking hot boyfriend and, even though how she handles internet trolls is a major theme of the book, she does not anticipate that they'll have mean things to say about the photo she posts。 I've been chubby all my life, and I have vivid memories back to the fourth grade that there was no way some boy could like me when he was skinnier than me。 I've been married to my tall and lanky husband for 11 years and I STILL have these feelings。 I just didn't buy that a plus-size woman, living her life under public scrutiny (who has had relationships before!) did not see this coming。 (hide spoiler)]Content warnings: loss of parent/grandparent, health scare, lots of talk of gym/fitness culture which could be triggering to some (read the author's note at the beginning!)。 I'm pretty sensitive to content that includes diet culture and I thought it was really beautifully handled in this book。 Thank you to Berkley Romance and NetGalley for the gifted copy。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

As their grandparents plan to tie the knot Scott and Crystal get to know each other and find that there is more than meets the eye to both of them and sparks fly。 But when a photos of them goes viral, will internet trolls put their relationship to the test? Review: There was so much to love about this story。 The curvy, self assured fitness blogger who meets the hot firefighter in the gym was such a fun set up for a romance story! I loved their banter and witty exchanges and could there be any better hero and Scott?! He truly shined in this one for me。 He was sweet, and caring and he just had so much heart and humor。 The families and friend circles were great and there is such a fun, warm vibe for so much of this book。 While the first 75% of this book I found to be stellar, I struggled with the last 25% of the book。 Some of Crystal's actions and reactions just seemed hard to follow and seemed not in line with how the characters had acted up to that point。 Overall this was an entertaining read and I would give it a solid 3。5 stars。 I would definitely read more from Amy Lea。 I think it is a strong debut and I am excited to see more from her。Thank you to the author and Berkley Publishing for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

When Scott meets Crystal at gym : their hate at first sight relationship eventually starts because Scott decides to steal prized piece of equipment belongs to Crystal! That smug gym patron who is also fireman gets into her nerves。 The sweet-smart-sexy banters and slow burn romance between them were the most adorable parts of the book! I wish we may also read the perspective of Scott。 I’d love to see the events from his POV! Overall: this is fast, easy to read, enjoyable debut! Absolutely I’d love to read the author’s future works! This part of the story felt so fun and fresh。 This could have gone on for 75% of the story and I wouldn't have been mad。 I loved how much it frustrated Crystal and how it ended up leading to an explosive chemistry between her and Scott。 After all that animosity, their friendship/relationship turned super sweet and adorable。 There were ups and downs, but I thought everything was written very well by Lea。 Another thing I loved were all of the supporting characters。 Crystal has some great, supportive friends in her sister, Tara, and fellow curvy influencer, Mel。 Scott has some fun fireman friends。 Crystal and Scott's grandparents were so freaking adorable and funny。 There's also a sweet moment between Crystal and her dad。 Oh, and I can't forget Scott's dog。 I want him。I need to go back to the fitness influencer part of the story now。 There are Instagram posts written by Crystal included。 At first, they kind of annoyed me。 Like I said before, I'm not a fan because sometimes these things sound preachy and I don't necessarily find them inspiring。 They bugged me because I just wanted to be back with Crystal and Scott and their antics。 For most of the story, the comments on those posts were the most interesting thing for me。 It wasn't until a specific moment toward the end that I had my aha moment with this aspect of the book。 When that happened, I had BIG feels about the direction the author chose to take。 It was a direction I approved of, but it also brought up some personal stuff for me surrounding weight, the culture of weight/weight-loss, and specific memories。 I'm still trying to work out those thoughts and feelings in my head。 Set on You is one of those books where my review could go on and on dissecting everything about it。 It's such a well written story full of romance, funny situations, and deeply emotional moments。 It's one of those illustrated cover rom-coms that is actually a rom-com like advertised, but also serves up a small helping of women's fiction。 It's kind of a crossover of the two genres with a heavy emphasis on the rom-com。 The only thing I could have wanted from it that I didn't get was Scott's POV。 There were times where I would have loved to have known what was going on in his head。 Don't get me wrong, the story was still perfect without that。 I'm excited that this is Lea's debut novel because I have a feeling things are only going to get better from here with her writing and it's already stellar。  。。。more

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for providing me an e-copy of SET ON YOU by Amy Lea。Crystal is a body positive influencer who meets Scott, a firefighter, in the gym。 They start out as gym nemesis, but their relationship turns into a lot more when their grandparents become engaged。While I think we may be heading into a bit of a saturation with body positive plots (I'm not meaning this as a bad thing, but some follow a formula), this one was different because this is a character who genuinely loves working out。 She doesn't do it to lose weight, she does it because it makes her feel good。Often we see these type of feelings about the gym from men, but Crystal is amazing。 She loves building her strength。 She's also not counting calories and accepts she's built different。But, she's really not all that different because she's actually an average size for today's women。 And that's what makes this book enjoyable。 She's not trying to mold herself into something tinier。When a post of her and Scott becomes viral, those self-doubts creep in for Crystal and that's when she's forced to analyze her true feelings about her size and society's expectations。 So, Scott is incredible and all women could use a positive man like Scott in their lives。 The little things he does for her throughout the story and when he reveals just how long he's had feelings for her - tear emojis all day long。I also enjoyed how Crystal was able to MATCH up to Scott's gym workouts。 It wasn't her trying to dial down her strength or let Scott be the go harder gym participant。 She was AS good and even BETTER than he was。 I loved their little competitions。I rate SET ON YOU five out of five stars。 。。。more

Set On You is a new favorite and Lea is now an auto buy author for me。 Looking for Hating Game meets book club worthy fiction? Look no further。 This book really has it all: A firefighter alpha hero who is immediately gone for this heroine, a multi dimensional cast of side characters, and scorching hot scenes that made me blush and fan myself while my kids were in the room。 The writing is easy, fastpaced, and filled with Sally Thorne style banter and sharp dialogue that is hard to find in today's Set On You is a new favorite and Lea is now an auto buy author for me。 Looking for Hating Game meets book club worthy fiction? I loved this book! Amy Lea has such a fun and witty voice in this story that kept the pace quick and kept me laughing。 Gym nemesis trope is such a fun concept and I loved the angst between these two。 The pacing in this book was great and I couldn’t put it down! I’m a historical romance kinda girl, so contemporaries really have to pack a great hook and concept to keep my attention。 Crystal felt like my BFF from page one and I was laughing and swooning right along with her。 Can’t wait to read more I loved this book!
