Summary

She’s trying to follow the rules…

When Elizabeth Hotchkiss stumbles upon a copy of How to Marry a Marquis in her employer’s library, she’s convinced someone is playing a cruel joke。 With three younger siblings to support, she knows she has to marry for money, but who might have guessed how desperate she’s become? A guidebook to seduction might be just the thing she needs—and what harm could there be in taking a little peek?

…But he’s making his own

James Sidwell, the Marquis of Riverdale, has been summoned to rescue his aunt from a blackmailer, a task that requires him to pose as the new estate manager, and his primary suspect is his aunt’s companion, Elizabeth。 Intrigued by the alluring young woman with the curious little rulebook, he gallantly offers to help her find a husband… by practicing her wiles on him。 But when practice becomes all too perfect, James decides that there is only one rule worth following—that Elizabeth marry her marquis。

Recommend highlyLoved the characters, the storyline, the detailed narrative and absolutely loved the narrator, Rosalyn Landor (my FAVORITE narrator)! Of course, it goes without saying, Julia Quinn is one of my favorite author。 VERY talented and skilled writer! I haven't read a book of hers that I did not enjoyed。 Recommend highlyLoved the characters, the storyline, the detailed narrative and absolutely loved the narrator, Rosalyn Landor (my FAVORITE narrator)! 2。5 stars。This book sat on my desk for month's from the library and made I felt guilt every time I happened to glance at it。 Maybe it was that guilt that tainted my experience of this one。 I'm not sure。 I have enough GR friends who liked it but I found it all to be very superficial。 I'm wondering now if I go back and reread all of the JQ books I've read already that I'd feel that way about all of them。 There's a lot of banter and funny moments, but most of it was physical attraction between the 2。5 stars。This book sat on my desk for month's from the library and made I felt guilt every time I happened to glance at it。 Maybe it was that guilt that tainted my experience of this one。 I'm not sure。 I have enough GR friends who liked it but I found it all to be very superficial。 I'm wondering now if I go back and reread all of the JQ books I've read already that I'd feel that way about all of them。 There's a lot of banter and funny moments, but most of it was physical attraction between the MCs。 Sure, they did get beyond that at some point and start to share real things with one another, but it was still mostly how the hero was "the handsomest man she'd ever seen" and how "his shoulder were so broad"。 With him, he noticed all of the prerequisite things about her to make him "harden all over" and blah blah blah。 I've read a few historical romances that featured MCs who managed to transcend their physical attraction and have a realistic and substantial courtship。 I guess that's what I'm looking for these days。 Everything else is just shallow。 Overall, this one was just ok。 Malcolm the cat was super fun as were the heroine's siblings。 Trigger warning (view spoiler)[ there is an on page attempted rape of the heroine and the would-be rapist is never punished。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

OMG WE GOT MORE LADY DANBURY!!!!!!? Not gonna lie。。。。。5 stars for that alone。 And James is easily one ofy all time fav romance men。 My only issue is that the inevitable argument turned resolution felt a bit rushed but other than that I thought it was pure heaven!

Lovely read。 The big reveal was frustrating due to sudden random characters from book 1。 And the heroine reaction was a little over the top (I tried to understand, nobility was revered those times) 。 BUT the hero was nearly perfect- flawed in his reactions and human in his frustration and so sweet in his honesty to his emotions。 No self denial of his feelings here! The plot was ridiculous but worked well because of the characters。 I felt for Susan who went from being deeply involved to shut out- Lovely read。 The big reveal was frustrating due to sudden random characters from book 1。 And the heroine reaction was a little over the top (I tried to understand, nobility was revered those times) 。 BUT the hero was nearly perfect- flawed in his reactions and human in his frustration and so sweet in his honesty to his emotions。 No self denial of his feelings here! I’ve given these stars for the romance part of this so-called historical romance。 About as historical as my grand-daughter! No spoilers。 I really enjoyed the story, the characters and a clever premise。 Witty repartee, soft porn like Bridgerton。 But historical? Not at all accurate, but who cares, a fun romp through whatever period this could properly be ascribed to。 Looking for more for a bit more light relief。

Many laugh out loud moments in this book。 Wish there were more books in the series。 Julia Quinn is at her best when writing smart funny banter and slapstick comedy。

Oh this book was so funny, i was cracking up the entire time。 Everything was perfect, the hero James was not an alpha asshole he never insulted our Heroine and the perfect part he didn't shy away or was in Denial that he didn't want her or love her。 Our Heroine Elizabeth was feisty, witty and had a very good humour 。 She was the perfect match for James。Ofcourse the side characters were Adorable , Lady Danbury was perfect as always。 I loved Mr。 & Mrs。 Ravenscroft。 Lucas, Jane and Susan were typic Oh this book was so funny, i was cracking up the entire time。 Everything was perfect, the hero James was not an alpha asshole he never insulted our Heroine and the perfect part he didn't shy away or was in Denial that he didn't want her or love her。 Our Heroine Elizabeth was feisty, witty and had a very good humour 。 She was the perfect match for James。Ofcourse the side characters were Adorable , Lady Danbury was perfect as always。 I loved Mr。 & Mrs。 Ravenscroft。 Lucas, Jane and Susan were typical nosey siblings and oh my favourite Malcolm the fat cat 🐈 。 This book is super fun and adorable, a must read。 。。。more

Another Lady D story; this time, her companion is in dire need of a husband and finds a book about how to marry a marquis in her employer’s library, while meanwhile a new estate manager has been hired … who’s very handsome! And happens to be an undercover marquis who’s helping Lady D investigate a crime against her personage。 Lots of clever dialogue but the whole premise/twist/“who was behind it all” seemed like a real stretch。 Enjoyable despite the lack of believability。

A refreshing, heart warming story! Loved the characters, the plot, the banter!

Historical romances are so cute and fun, but I've discovered that there are romance novels where the problems are solved through communication without a terrible break-up。 Now every time I read one of these, I get so annoyed because one or both halves of the main couple will get mad and refuse to listen to anything the other half says, and then we just end up with the drama that could have been so easily taken care of by just sitting quietly and being rational。 Or just having a relationship buil Historical romances are so cute and fun, but I've discovered that there are romance novels where the problems are solved through communication without a terrible break-up。 Now every time I read one of these, I get so annoyed because one or both halves of the main couple will get mad and refuse to listen to anything the other half says, and then we just end up with the drama that could have been so easily taken care of by just sitting quietly and being rational。 Or just having a relationship built on trust and honesty。 Just saying。。。 。。。more

Okay- not appropriate lol it’s spicyBut this is so dumb hahaI like the plot of this a lot but the romance is so cringe haha It’s like I really like the characters and that James is fun and Elizabeth laughs so much, that’s all greatBut then James is obnoxiously sexist and angry sometimes and the romance/him being horny seems contrived

Por momentos quería agarrar a los personajes a palos pero el personaje de lady Danbury siempre me relaja y los pone en su lugar。

One of the more hilarious Quinn's。 I just downloaded the first book in this two-book series from the library。 Don't like reading series backwards, but when you're borrowing from the library sometimes you have no choice。 I had a brief glimpse of the two characters in the next book so it should be fun too。 One of the more hilarious Quinn's。 I just downloaded the first book in this two-book series from the library。 Don't like reading series backwards, but when you're borrowing from the library sometimes you have no choice。 I had a brief glimpse of the two characters in the next book so it should be fun too。 。。。more

3。25 starsIt was fine, it’s been like a day since I finished it and I’m already forgetting the whole story。 Rather far-fetched, even for a romance novel。 Some good moments here and there, but overall just okay。

Chris

It was a 5 stars until the last 20% it was painful to finish overall was an okay reading
