2。5 stars。This book sat on my desk for month's from the library and made I felt guilt every time I happened to glance at it。 Maybe it was that guilt that tainted my experience of this one。 I'm not sure。 I have enough GR friends who liked it but I found it all to be very superficial。 I'm wondering now if I go back and reread all of the JQ books I've read already that I'd feel that way about all of them。 There's a lot of banter and funny moments， but most of it was physical attraction between the 2。5 stars。This book sat on my desk for month's from the library and made I felt guilt every time I happened to glance at it。 Maybe it was that guilt that tainted my experience of this one。 I'm not sure。 I have enough GR friends who liked it but I found it all to be very superficial。 I'm wondering now if I go back and reread all of the JQ books I've read already that I'd feel that way about all of them。 There's a lot of banter and funny moments， but most of it was physical attraction between the MCs。 Sure， they did get beyond that at some point and start to share real things with one another， but it was still mostly how the hero was "the handsomest man she'd ever seen" and how "his shoulder were so broad"。 With him， he noticed all of the prerequisite things about her to make him "harden all over" and blah blah blah。 I've read a few historical romances that featured MCs who managed to transcend their physical attraction and have a realistic and substantial courtship。 I guess that's what I'm looking for these days。 Everything else is just shallow。 Overall， this one was just ok。 Malcolm the cat was super fun as were the heroine's siblings。 Trigger warning （view spoiler）[ there is an on page attempted rape of the heroine and the would-be rapist is never punished。 （hide spoiler）] 。。。more

I’ve given these stars for the romance part of this so-called historical romance。 About as historical as my grand-daughter！ No spoilers。 I really enjoyed the story， the characters and a clever premise。 Witty repartee， soft porn like Bridgerton。 But historical？ Not at all accurate， but who cares， a fun romp through whatever period this could properly be ascribed to。 Looking for more for a bit more light relief。

Another Lady D story; this time， her companion is in dire need of a husband and finds a book about how to marry a marquis in her employer’s library， while meanwhile a new estate manager has been hired … who’s very handsome！ And happens to be an undercover marquis who’s helping Lady D investigate a crime against her personage。 Lots of clever dialogue but the whole premise/twist/“who was behind it all” seemed like a real stretch。 Enjoyable despite the lack of believability。
