Summary

When Charles Wycombe, the dashing and incorrigible Earl of Billington, toppled out of a tree and landed at Ellie Lyndon‘s feet, neither suspected that such an inauspicious meeting would lead to marriage。 But Charles must find a bride before his thirtieth birthday or he’ll lose his fortune。 And Ellie needs a husband or her father’s odious fiancée will choose one for her。 And so they agree to wed, even though their match appears to have been made somewhere hotter than heaven…

Ellie never dreamed she’d marry a stranger, especially one with such a devastating combination of rakish charm and debonair wit。 She tries to keep him at arm’s length, at least until she discovers the man beneath the handsome surface。 But Charles can be quite persusasive—even tender—when he puts his mind to it, and Ellie finds herself slipping under his seductive spell。 And as one kiss leads to another, this unlikely pair discovers that their marriage is not so inconvenient after all… and just might lead to love。

I really liked this one! The characters chemistry was fantastic, but I was so frustrated by how much he didn't trust her when all the accidents kept happening。 I know they hadn't known each other for long, but it was like he went out of his way to bring up things that she genuinely didn't do。 Also。。。 Miss Julia Quinn, please stop with the kidnapping plot points, I beg of you。 I've read at least 5 of her titles with that of the top of my head but probably more。 I can't!! A fun little duology。 Once again, two of the earlier works in Quinn's repertoire, so some of her later staples for her stories aren't present yet in this series, but they're still a lot to recommend them。 The first story is the one she calls her "love at first sight" story, but I think of it as her "Persuasion"-esque story。 For the first half at least。 The second half of the book more reminds me of the 1934 film The Girl from Missouri, but a little less endearing in some respects。 The second sto A fun little duology。 Once again, two of the earlier works in Quinn's repertoire, so some of her later staples for her stories aren't present yet in this series, but they're still a lot to recommend them。 The first story is the one she calls her "love at first sight" story, but I think of it as her "Persuasion"-esque story。 For the first half at least。 The second half of the book more reminds me of the 1934 film The Girl from Missouri, but a little less endearing in some respects。 The second story was actually my favorite of the two books, however, even though it is a generic "marriage of convenience" story。 But I've read a lot of fanfics with that premise, so why wouldn't I enjoy a book with that idea? It was a lot of fun and the only negative about this particular story is the third act conflict which, while set up in the previous two acts of the story, is so divorced from everything else that happens in the book that I just didn't particularly worry about it at all。 If it had played any part in the development of Charles' and Ellie's relationship, I would probably have felt more invested or intrigued -- if, say, part of what drew them together in their marriage was the two of them working together to discover who is trying to kill Charles -- but it's just a two chapter conflict thrown in for what feels like a page count reason。 。。。more

It was okay, but definitely far from my favorite series Quinn has written。

Charles asks Ellie to marry him so he can keep his fortune, and then they fall in love after the fact (she’s desperate to escape her house before her father remarried a widow who seems to think she’ll be acquiring a slave rather than a daughter)。 These were two of my favorite Quinn characters; Ellie’s financial sense and Charles’ roguish humor are likable。 But the central plot (which seemed to really only emerge and coalesce on the last 20 pages?) was thin: a cousin who was supposed to inherit i Charles asks Ellie to marry him so he can keep his fortune, and then they fall in love after the fact (she’s desperate to escape her house before her father remarried a widow who seems to think she’ll be acquiring a slave rather than a daughter)。 These were two of my favorite Quinn characters; Ellie’s financial sense and Charles’ roguish humor are likable。 But the central plot (which seemed to really only emerge and coalesce on the last 20 pages?) was thin: a cousin who was supposed to inherit if Charles didn’t get married has been trying to kill him。 。。。more

Probably my least favourite read of Quinn’s by far。 I think when she strays too far away from the romance the plot stops being believable。

2。5ish stars。 Not my fave JQ series by far。 It was an okay read, I liked the premise, just dragged on a bit too long。

Not ashamed to say I devoured this book。 At times Charles got slightly on my nerves, especially when being injured constantly, but not enough to actually loose a star。 Loved the plot twist at the end

Good enough!Light, quick read。 Quinn has the formula down pat。 I liked the story very much even though I had guessed the storyline from the curicle accident minus the correct villain。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 While I liked the heroine of the book I found the male lead a patronising arse。 He literally talks to her like a child actually using the phrase I’m counting to three。 At the start of the book I really struggled with the story。 The couple argued every chapter and it seemed they barley liked let alone loved each other。 In the beginning the young girl Claire also made me want to bitch slap her。 More strangely the book suddenly changed two thirds through suddenly everyone is nice and in love but oh While I liked the heroine of the book I found the male lead a patronising arse。 He literally talks to her like a child actually using the phrase I’m counting to three。 At the start of the book I really struggled with the story。 The couple argued every chapter and it seemed they barley liked let alone loved each other。 In the beginning the young girl Claire also made me want to bitch slap her。 More strangely the book suddenly changed two thirds through suddenly everyone is nice and in love but oh there is a murder plot that came out of nowhere。 In all a very strange and not that good of a read。 。。。more

This is my favourite from the Lyndon sisters。 The banter and friendship between the couple is unmatched from the very start。

This is the second book in the Lyndon Sisters duet and in this one Eleanor takes centre stage。She is out for a walk when Charles, Earl of Billington falls into her life。 He falls out of a tree, lands on her and soon has a surprising proposal for her。 He must find a wife and Eleanor, known more as Ellie, needs to escape her stepmother。Their marriage is one of convenience only。 Ellie is too strong and smart to fall for a man like Charles。 But he has decided he will make her like him。I really enjoy This is the second book in the Lyndon Sisters duet and in this one Eleanor takes centre stage。She is out for a walk when Charles, Earl of Billington falls into her life。 He falls out of a tree, lands on her and soon has a surprising proposal for her。 He must find a wife and Eleanor, known more as Ellie, needs to escape her stepmother。Their marriage is one of convenience only。 Ellie is too strong and smart to fall for a man like Charles。 But he has decided he will make her like him。I really enjoyed the first book but honestly I think I prefer this one。 I like how strong willed Ellie is, and the sparring between her and Charles is so fun to read。The other characters in this book are a great mix and I loved reading the interactions Ellie has with them as she tries to navigate life as the new Countess。There is a steamy scene or two but I'm sure most romance readers will be fine with that。This can be read without reading Everything and the Moon, as Ellie is a smaller character in that and its in this story that we really get to know her properly。I've throughly enjoyed both books in this duet, and I hope one day the author decides to revisit the lives of Ellie and Charles, and Victoria and Robert。 。。。more

This is the second in the London series but both books stand alone。 In this book, an Earl literally falls at the feet of Elinor Lyndon and proposes marriage the same day。 He is proposing a marriage of convenience so he can keep his inheritance if he is married by his 30th birthday。 Ellie has reasons of her own for agreeing to this but they both have very hot tempers! This was much better than the first in this series。 It had a funny start likeable characters and was rather captivating。The marriage contract was not so unlikely in those days and it was fun to watch them slowly falling in love though the bickering at times did get a bit tiresome。 The ending was rather baffling as it seemed to have come out of nowhere and added to an already long list of mishaps so it was a little too heavy for my liking but didn't make me lose my overall enjoyment。 Will definit This was much better than the first in this series。 It had a funny start likeable characters and was rather captivating。The marriage contract was not so unlikely in those days and it was fun to watch them slowly falling in love though the bickering at times did get a bit tiresome。 The ending was rather baffling as it seemed to have come out of nowhere and added to an already long list of mishaps so it was a little too heavy for my liking but didn't make me lose my overall enjoyment。 Will definitely read more from this author。 。。。more

Much better! Could not finish the previous book in this series, but this one was delightful。 Strong heroine and engaging hero。 Lots of snappy dialogue and story moves right along。 Mysteries were not very mysterious。 Figured out who and why right away, but it was a fun read。

Another fun book。 I don't expect anything truly deep from this genre so I just fully enjoy them in all their 2-dimensional-ness。 This was a witty book about a marriage of convenience--and I of course I read the series out of order, but it was enjoyable。 I'm waiting for a few other books on hold at the library so I decided to dive in on a few other less deep books, since the ones on hold are much deeper in nature。 But, this book is easy to figure out, the marriage of convenience surely works out Another fun book。 I don't expect anything truly deep from this genre so I just fully enjoy them in all their 2-dimensional-ness。 This was a witty book about a marriage of convenience--and I of course I read the series out of order, but it was enjoyable。 I'm waiting for a few other books on hold at the library so I decided to dive in on a few other less deep books, since the ones on hold are much deeper in nature。 But, this book is easy to figure out, the marriage of convenience surely works out with a little bit of eventfulness along the way。 ~Fun, light reading。 。。。more
