Most of these laws are subconsciously dilated in our brains upon speculation or basic observation of surroundings。 Take what you want from the book, as it provides multiple tactics and tricks (with examples) to assert influence and power over others。 Taken lightly, these laws are valuable lessons。 However, don’t let it all get to your head, nor allow the book to comprise your morals。 Power as a whole itself, is anti-intellectual。

Robert Greene wrote a book of brutal honesty and truth。 48 laws of Power uses metaphors and stories to teach how human psychology works, and how one can use it to his own benefit。 A book worth reading for everyone seeking to attain a higher social status and obtain power。 definitely one of my top 3 favourite books。

I don’t like this book, I seen many dumb people reading it and now they think they’re woke and smart。 I find it cringe。 So yes, in other words I’m hater。

Didn’t enjoy the underlying tone of besting others and having the upper hand on things。 Felt like a lot was focused on manipulating。 The principles are well explained but like I said the focus seemed to be how can you have power/control over someone。I’m surprised I finished the book tbh。

I have very mixed feelings about this book。 After reading 480 pages of laws and explanations I realized that you have to be in some kind of mental state to take the rules "seriously"。 If you're normally confident and just got curious about it, it won't affect you unless you're planning on becoming an evil person。 For people like me - who needed an ego push and confidence boost, it was definitely worth it! I just couldn’t bring myself to read this。 Bought it with the intention of potentially learning some special ways to skew power dynamics in my favor but I found the book so utterly disturbing I couldn’t keep myself reading。 I am too impressionable to read 450 pages of drivel pointing me towards manipulative behavior and claiming it positive to not believe it all and employ it in my daily life。 So I quit, 30 pages in。Even if it may help me recognize manipulative behavior in others, I’d rather not I just couldn’t bring myself to read this。 Bought it with the intention of potentially learning some special ways to skew power dynamics in my favor but I found the book so utterly disturbing I couldn’t keep myself reading。 I am too impressionable to read 450 pages of drivel pointing me towards manipulative behavior and claiming it positive to not believe it all and employ it in my daily life。 So I quit, 30 pages in。Even if it may help me recognize manipulative behavior in others, I’d rather not go all paranoid due to these laws。 Also now that I have the book, if I feel as if someone is manipulating me I can cite the book, looking for an appropriate rule, which would probably dissolve the effects on my psyche。 。。。more

It's a great book for understanding our underlying nature。To those that question the morals of the described behavior - Set aside your preconceived moral compass of good and evil and observe human psychology as a form that drives our existance in society。 I would say that anyone claiming that they despise whoever uses such tactics and never uses any form of manipulation themseleves - is a liar。 It's practically impossible to live in a society and never use people to your advantage。 And let me as It's a great book for understanding our underlying nature。To those that question the morals of the described behavior - Set aside your preconceived moral compass of good and evil and observe human psychology as a form that drives our existance in society。 I would say that anyone claiming that they despise whoever uses such tactics and never uses any form of manipulation themseleves - is a liar。 It's practically impossible to live in a society and never use people to your advantage。 And let me ask you - Whats wrong with doing so? What was his source for this number anyway? This is not explained。) and therefore too high。What I missed was a moral framework: are these laws okay, so to speak。 Are we to accept them, submit to them, apply them to our own lives, resist them? What wisdom does the author wish to share with us here? When I started this novel I implicitly assumed that the author would offer a critique, but he does not, he simply lists each law and its characteristics, and then goes on to illustrate them by the lives of some historic figures。 Which by the way, were a rather limited number and most of all a safe bunch: where is his analysis of the many (powerful!) kings, presidents and tyrants of the 20th century? Why does he instead stick to figures long passed, or completely unknown? Also, he may strive to be factual but to me it seems each law is presented as if it offered some useful tips for you & me to apply to our own lives。 That aspect of this book actually left me feeling a bit sick if I listened too long, as if I were an accidental Sith apprentice stumbling onto the ways of the Dark Side。。。 So I stuck to shorter listening episodes, but I confess I lost interest about halfway through。 I finished it, but it did not get any better, it just kept repeating itself for 48 long laws。 And then it simply left it at that and ended abruptly。So other than having been made acquainted with the Dark side of the Force ;-), I haven't learned much of any interest。In my opinion this book should have been shortened by at least half, either that or it should have far deeper analysis added to it instead of this fairly superficial listing of characteristics and historic illustrations。 。。。more

How much did luck and circumstance play into it? It’s a classic case of the causation/correlation fallacy。However, like I say - it was good to read tales of old, and some small nuggets of advice may be useful in some specific circumstances。 。。。more

Although I think it was interesting to read this book it felt more like something in-between a bad history book and a manual to self-centred succes with a very lonely existence。 I might be naive but I really hope people use this more to find and not be f*cked by the bad guy than to make this their way of looking at the world。
