Book reviews on www。snazzybooks。comI knew I was in for a treat with Lisa Gardner’s new release in the Frankie Elkin series (I really enjoyed the first, Before She Disappeared), but I didn’t expect to be this gripped。 The story follows Frankie, who spends her life helping to find people who have disappeared a long time ago, as she gets involved in a missing person case where a stag do went terribly wrong five years ago, resulting in the injury of one of the attendees and the disappearance of the Book reviews on www。snazzybooks。comI knew I was in for a treat with Lisa Gardner’s new release in the Frankie Elkin series (I really enjoyed the first, Before She Disappeared), but I didn’t expect to be this gripped。 The story follows Frankie, who spends her life helping to find people who have disappeared a long time ago, as she gets involved in a missing person case where a stag do went terribly wrong five years ago, resulting in the injury of one of the attendees and the disappearance of the stag, Timothy!Frankie joins Tim’s father and an array of colourful characters as they trek into the forest where Tim disappeared to try and find his body。 But things don’t go quite to plan…I really enjoyed this tense, addictive novel。 Frankie is a great character and one I’ll always be happy to read more about。 She unearths the truth where no one else can。 The setting is very different to other novels – almost entirely set in the forest – and I thought this might become a bit dull but it’s quite the opposite: the location felt so vibrant it almost felt alive at times。 It took me a little while to get into but once I did, I was hooked! As the search into the forest continues, the danger ramps up as well, and the more I read the more I wanted to work out what exactly had happened out there。 The tension is high and other are some twists I definitely didn’t see coming, but One Step Too Far also did a great job of further developing the main character Frankie, and allowed us to learn about the cast of other interesting characters who feature。I struggled to put this book down – addictive reading! Many thanks to the publisher, Penguin, for providing a copy of this book on which I chose to write an honest review。 。。。more

I love Frankie。 She is fantastic。 The snark, the fight, the stubbornness。 And the whole cast of characters were brilliantI was pleasantly surprised that this was more thriller than procedural。The only thing that kind bugged me was the ending was drawn out。 I had an idea of how it would play out and and I learned a long time ago that doesn't make for a bad book。 It just means I read too much lol。 But it IS in the execution and I just would have liked I snappier and twister reveal。 The way it play I love Frankie。 She is fantastic。 The snark, the fight, the stubbornness。 And the whole cast of characters were brilliantI was pleasantly surprised that this was more thriller than procedural。The only thing that kind bugged me was the ending was drawn out。 I had an idea of how it would play out and and I learned a long time ago that doesn't make for a bad book。 It just means I read too much lol。 But it IS in the execution and I just would have liked I snappier and twister reveal。 The way it played out was a bit drawn out, for me。But I still loved it, and will read the next installment。 It's a shame all Gardner'a books are huge series。 But I did read that her last book works as a stand alone, so I'm going to check it out for sure。 。。。more

Thank you to Dutton Publishers for an advanced e-copy of this book。 This is the second book in the Frankie Elkin series。 I can't believe how explosive this book was。 8 hikers head in to the wilderness to look for one of the hiker's missing son, Tim。 Things quickly begin to go south and members of the hiking team begin to get hurt / go missing。 Once I got familiar with all the characters, I found it pretty easy to determine who was who。 The book was especially intense the last 25% and the ending Thank you to Dutton Publishers for an advanced e-copy of this book。 This is the second book in the Frankie Elkin series。 I can't believe how explosive this book was。 8 hikers head in to the wilderness to look for one of the hiker's missing son, Tim。 Things quickly begin to go south and members of the hiking team begin to get hurt / go missing。 Once I got familiar with all the characters, I found it pretty easy to determine who was who。 The book was especially intense the last 25% and the ending was pretty surprising! 。。。more

I loooooooove this series。 The emphasis on cold cases makes it very interesting and Frankie's tenacity and ability to draw people out makes this spellbinding。 This is a departure from the first book。 It has Frankie in a more tenuous and threatened environment。 In this story she is more raw and less of a know it all kind of。 This time she may have bitten off more than she can chew when she's thrust into the wilderness of Devil's Canyon and has never been hiking。 The amount of detail in the story I loooooooove this series。 The emphasis on cold cases makes it very interesting and Frankie's tenacity and ability to draw people out makes this spellbinding。 This is a departure from the first book。 It has Frankie in a more tenuous and threatened environment。 In this story she is more raw and less of a know it all kind of。 This time she may have bitten off more than she can chew when she's thrust into the wilderness of Devil's Canyon and has never been hiking。 The amount of detail in the story makes you feel every bit of dirty and sweat and muscle ache she feels as she joins the search for Tim。 He disappeared after a bachelor party and hasn't been seen in five years。 The 4 remaining memver of the party, his father, and guides embark on one lost expedition to retrieve him。 Except Frankie can feel someone watching them from the moment they step into the wilderness。 In all honesty we spent too much time in the wilderness every time I thought we would be getting out, it started all over again。 It felt never ending but Gardner spreads out the twists and turns of this story into an unforgettable, daunting, and gory story。 I did not see that ending coming。 。。。more

Wow。 It's been a while since I've read a book that has kept me gripped like this one。 I really enjoyed the first Frankie Elkin novel although I have to say that I think this one was even better。 I wasn't sure how the premise of Frankie being a lone wanderer would work, it's hard not to get attached to the characters in a book and I thought I might miss the characters that were introduced in the first story but Lisa writes characters so well that I was too busy getting to know these characters to Wow。 It's been a while since I've read a book that has kept me gripped like this one。 I really enjoyed the first Frankie Elkin novel although I have to say that I think this one was even better。 I wasn't sure how the premise of Frankie being a lone wanderer would work, it's hard not to get attached to the characters in a book and I thought I might miss the characters that were introduced in the first story but Lisa writes characters so well that I was too busy getting to know these characters to really notice。 I liked how the book managed to blend great characters with some really great action and it was interesting to see Frankie out of her comfort zone compared to the first book and I suppose out of the comfort zone of most thrillers, it's not often that an investigation happens on a mountain。 I'm already waiting with baited breath for the next Frankie installment, I'm quietly hoping for a reunion with past characters but I'm also excited to see what new characters she might come across in a whole new place。 。。。more

While I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first book in the series “Before She Disappeared “ this was still a good, solid read。 I would give it 3。5 stars but I rounded down instead of up on,y because I had high hopes for this going in and it didn’t quite get there for me。 Frankie is still doing what she does, which is finding missing cold case people。 She finds herself constantly on the move, and at one point reads a Wyoming newspaper article about a man who’s been missing for 5 years and his While I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first book in the series “Before She Disappeared “ this was still a good, solid read。 I would give it 3。5 stars but I rounded down instead of up on,y because I had high hopes for this going in and it didn’t quite get there for me。 Frankie is still doing what she does, which is finding missing cold case people。 She finds herself constantly on the move, and at one point reads a Wyoming newspaper article about a man who’s been missing for 5 years and his family & friends who go every year in and search for him。 So Frankie decided that this is her next case and she gets on the bus and heads to meet the family。 The mother is dying of cancer, the father is obsessed with finding answers and the friends who went camping with him when he went missing are a mess of issues。 As per usual, Frankie is good at listening and getting people to talk, and as such, she finds out that there’s a lot more to the story of how Tim went missing and she sets out to join the search party, including Daisy a trained cadaver dog。 While doing so, secrets come to light, and Frankie learns to face some of her past as well。 This was an interesting look at life in the wild and those who are into hiking and camping will enjoy the setting of this story。 As someone who hasn’t done a lot of either, I learned a few things。 Can’t wait to see what Frankie gets up to next。 Publication date: January 18, 2022Thanks to Dutton Books and Netgalley for this Arc in exchange for my review。 。。。more

My first read and review of 2022 and what a way to start! This sets the bar really high for the rest of the year。 It’s the first time I’ve read anything by Lisa Gardner and I’ll certainly be checking out her back catalogue。Five years ago Tim O’Day and four friends trekked into the mountains to spend a few days there for his bachelor party。 For Tim, hiking and outdoor pursuits were a major part of his life and this was his choice。 It would also be the last time anyone saw him alive。 Five friends went into the forest but only four returned, traumatised by their experience。 Every year since, Tim’s father Martin has organised an expedition to try and find his son。 Frankie Elkin, who now spends her time tracking down missing people, has been drawn to this search。 She knows it is the last time Martin will carry out his quest。 His wife is dying of cancer, and it is her last wish to have her son’s remains returned so they can be buried together。Frankie travels to Ramsey in Wyoming to ask if she can join them。 At first Martin refuses, but eventually she is allowed to accompany them。Written from Frankie’s POV, it’s a chilling account of the small group’s trek into the mountains and the challenges they face。 From the first night, it is clear someone is trying to sabotage their progress and eventually it becomes a game of cat and mouse between the unseen enemy and the group。 At first, they think it is some sort of animal; later it’s clear what is stalking them is human。Right from the beginning, this story grips。 The fact the group are being trailed by something right from the first night, brings an element of fear about what its intentions are and what is going to happen next。 But is there something following them? Or is the danger coming from someone within the group? As the search proceeds, through conversing with each of them, Frankie begins to realise several members of the party are keeping secrets。 A fast paced, gripping story, with hold your breath moments and an conclusion I didn’t see coming。 Worth every one of the five stars I have awarded it。My thanks to Lisa Gardner, Penguin and Netgalley for an ARC of One Step Too Far in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

I loved it! It was one of those books that I didn’t want to put down。 The plot was so intriguing, and I really liked the twist at the end。 My only critique is that I felt it was too long。 The same greatness could have been achieved with fewer pages。 That’s my only reason I can’t give it five stars, but I still highly recommend this book!

I found some of Frankie’s reflections on her past to be a little repetitive and over dramatic at times, perhaps for the reader who wasn’t familiar with the character in the first novel。 I get it, but I have to confess I found myself skimming those sections。 I do like the recovering alcoholic part of her character and feel like that explains a lot of why she is the way she is。 The ending was a bit ScoobyDoo-ish, but that’s ok。 I don’t read fiction for realism。 I loved the wrap up and will be back for the next Frankie installment。 Definite recommend for anyone who enjoys a straightforward, entertaining thriller。 (And for those looking for a break from the oh-too-common psychological thrillers of late。)Thank you to Netgalley who provided the ARC in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

#netgalleyarc I really enjoy this author and really enjoyed the first book in this series。 This book, book 2, was good but not great。 This story got o&ff to a very slow start and even though I did enjoy reading it, it never grabbed my attention the way the first book did。

I am a big fan of this author, the book started really well - & then dragged on & on in the middle - I got totally bored of these people in the wood searching for Tim O’Day who disappeared5 years ago。 I found the story a little unbelievable that year after year his father would lead another extensive search。 A tense atmosphere does build but I felt the ending was really rushed For me a disappointing read in book two of the new lead female character Frankie Elkin who is a strong kick ass woman wh I am a big fan of this author, the book started really well - & then dragged on & on in the middle - I got totally bored of these people in the wood searching for Tim O’Day who disappeared5 years ago。 I found the story a little unbelievable that year after year his father would lead another extensive search。 A tense atmosphere does build but I felt the ending was really rushed For me a disappointing read in book two of the new lead female character Frankie Elkin who is a strong kick ass woman who I like。 。。。more
