Summary

Addie and her sister are about to embark on an epic road trip to a friend's wedding in the north of Scotland。 The playlist is all planned and the snacks are packed。

But, not long after setting off, a car slams into the back of theirs。 The driver is none other than Addie's ex, Dylan, who she's avoided since their traumatic break-up two years earlier。

Dylan and his best mate are heading to the wedding too, and they've totalled their car, so Addie has no choice but to offer them a ride。 The car is soon jam-packed full of luggage and secrets, and with three hundred miles ahead of them, Dylan and Addie can't avoid confronting the very messy history of their relationship。。。

Will they make it to the wedding on time? And, more importantly。。。 is this really the end of the road for Addie and Dylan?

Abgebrochen!

In theory, I would have loved this book with minus five reservations, but there were just so many little things that added up to it being ultimately not that fun a read after all。 There's a lot to appreciate here - Dylan's musical choices, honest discussions of therapy, and exploring relationships in your chosen family。 That being said, part of the Flatshare's incredible appeal was the middling little lives they led。 Somehow, having a side cast of fabulously rich twenty-somethings just falls fla In theory, I would have loved this book with minus five reservations, but there were just so many little things that added up to it being ultimately not that fun a read after all。 There's a lot to appreciate here - Dylan's musical choices, honest discussions of therapy, and exploring relationships in your chosen family。 That being said, part of the Flatshare's incredible appeal was the middling little lives they led。 Somehow, having a side cast of fabulously rich twenty-somethings just falls flat。。。 a lot of the flashbacks just feel like Rory Gilmore hanging out with the privileged set, and there's Gossip Girl levels of entaglement and debauchery。 Either this book needed better editing or more exposition, because ultimately the resolutions felt somewhat half-baked。 I suppose I have little patience for tumultuous early 20s relationships turning stable (but that's admittedly a personal problem)。。。 and I have little patience to wait around for the Chuck Bass types of the world to, in the end, redeem themselves after multiple instances of being completely obnoxious。 Honestly, this would have been a better movie than book。 Not that I didn't enjoy it, but I know I could have enjoyed such a story so much more。 。。。more

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was great romance, dark at times and full of love。

From the name and description I expected this to be light and funny, but there was more substance to it than that and I enjoyed it。

Five people, two exes, their best friends, and a total stranger, are crammed into a Mini to drive to a wedding in Scotland。 What could possibly go wrong? An entertaining read with a few surprises。

Fun and enjoyable。 The Switch is still my favorite from O'Leary, but I did like this motley cast of characters as well。 Fun and enjoyable。 The Switch is still my favorite from O'Leary, but I did like this motley cast of characters as well。 。。。more

Not as good as the previous books unfortunately - slightly annoying characters and not as moving。

Still catching up on my 2021 reviews, so bear with me。 This is one I finished back in November, I think。 Yikes。 Not long before that I read my first Beth O'Leary novel, The Flatshare。 I positively loved its charm and wit。 The characters were lovable。 I expected the same here but really found it lacking, unfortunately。 It is a short read, and it's romantic and well-written in O'Leary's signature style。 In this case, however, neither the story nor the characters kept my attention。 Continue Reading Still catching up on my 2021 reviews, so bear with me。 This is one I finished back in November, I think。 Yikes。 Not long before that I read my first Beth O'Leary novel, The Flatshare。 I positively loved its charm and wit。 The characters were lovable。 I expected the same here but really found it lacking, unfortunately。 It is a short read, and it's romantic and well-written in O'Leary's signature style。 In this case, however, neither the story nor the characters kept my attention。 Continue Reading at https://libgirlbooks。com。 。。。more

Absolutely wonderful!! This was one of my favorite reads of the year (2021)。 The author wrote a beautiful romance with characters that you can’t help but fall in love with。 I loved how the author was able to write out the feelings of deep heart ache and also feelings of deep joy and love。

I do know on some level that this problem of mine is not real。 I have a whole world of opportunities in front of me。 I can do anything i want more so than almost every other being on this planet probably。 But the dread does not seem to know it。 The dread just knows that the future is enormous and awful because inevitably no matter what i do, i’ll fail at it。 I don’t like to lose even if I don’t particularly care about winning “。 Xx 。。。more

This book was SO SLOW for like 200 pages then sped up for the 2nd half。 I mean it was fun to read, but prob wouldn’t tell someone else to read it。

I've loved Beth O'Leary's previous books, but I just couldn't get into this one。 The characters felt largely surface-level。 In the end, I didn't finish it because I just didn't care what happened to them。 I've loved Beth O'Leary's previous books, but I just couldn't get into this one。 The characters felt largely surface-level。 In the end, I didn't finish it because I just didn't care what happened to them。 。。。more

Well they do say never judge a book by its cover and I definitely should have taken that advice here。 I expected this to be a fun romantic comedy but it’s not。 It’s comedic and had romance but it’s just different。 I enjoyed it but I hated a lot of characters and the road trip gave me anxiety。

Phewwww this book is not your typical contemporary romance and I definitely was NOT expecting to find this level of complexity in a cute cartoon cover book。 'The Road Trip' follows the story of Dylan and Addie, two exes who get into a fender bender and end up having to travel to a friends wedding together。 However, what starts as a hilarious and care-free "close proximity" storyline soon delves into something much deeper。 We begin to gather hints that there is more to Dylan and Addie's breakup t Phewwww this book is not your typical contemporary romance and I definitely was NOT expecting to find this level of complexity in a cute cartoon cover book。 'The Road Trip' follows the story of Dylan and Addie, two exes who get into a fender bender and end up having to travel to a friends wedding together。 However, what starts as a hilarious and care-free "close proximity" storyline soon delves into something much deeper。 We begin to gather hints that there is more to Dylan and Addie's breakup than either is willing to admit。 Beth O'Leary touches on some very difficult topics (TW: SA, substance abuse, ED, narcissism) and the relationships between these characters are complex and very real。 This is not a book you should pick up if you're looking for a fluffy romance with some mild conflict because the events and trauma in this book are real and dive deep。 I honestly got the same knot in my throat reading this that I have gotten reading Colleen Hoover books。 I thought that this story was really well done and elevates the book from just a simple exes to lovers story- real life is really much more complex than just that。 I am giving it four stars because this book is really long and the first half is honestly fairly slow and confusing。 There is a lot of hinting about toxicity in their relationship and confusing miscommunications that make sense later on, but just kind of seem out of place without knowing the whole story。 I found myself constantly flipping back and forth to try to piece things that I had read in the beginning back into the story。 I also felt like the ending was a little unrealistic but typically romance books are a bit on the fantastical side anyways LOL。 This is a very different vibe from the Flatshare, but I think Beth O'Leary did a really nice job touching on some hard topics and giving real depth to these characters。 。。。more

Road Trip is a book about two exes having to travel together to a wedding。 I read this while going through a breakup, do not recommend doing that。 Otherwise it was a great book since the plot takes place over a few days, its nice that the author managed to retell what happened several years ago while still making it interesting。 You get to know the characters quite well。 I enjoyed it。

I found this book surprisingly charming with great character development on all fronts。 It was silly at times without being stupid and serious at others without being overdone。 I enjoyed this book much more than I did O’Leary’s prior novels; it had great heart。
