Summary

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect。 A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas。 One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word。

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety。 The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London。

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia。 His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him。。。。

3。5 stars。 Overall an enjoyable read with an immersive setting and interesting characters。 The ending was a bit predictable。 A worthwhile read for anyone who is a fan of thrillers/mysteries。

super enjoyable read that I couldn't put down。 I did feel like the ending left something to be desired (not sure exactly what tho)。 Idk i just feel a little unsatisfied having finished it a couple of hours ago, but not enough to not recommend it to someone。 thoroughly enjoyed the unreliable narrator POV and the connection to greek mythology。 also ive discovered im becoming a bit of a psych nerd so i loved the paragraphs rambling about psychological development。 super enjoyable read that I couldn't put down。 I did feel like the ending left something to be desired (not sure exactly what tho)。 Idk i just feel a little unsatisfied having finished it a couple of hours ago, but not enough to not recommend it to someone。 thoroughly enjoyed the unreliable narrator POV and the connection to greek mythology。 also ive discovered im becoming a bit of a psych nerd so i loved the paragraphs rambling about psychological development。 。。。more

The book is quite like finishing a whole bar of chocolate。 And not rich, dark chocolate。 But some grocery store milk chocolate。That is to say, it's indulgent。 And if we're being honest, not too good。 It satisfies some child like craving (and it's quite child like in its stiff, elementary writing)。 The indulgence is somewhat regretable, but maybe you just needed it that day。 Or there was no ferrero rocher around。 Still, the sugar rush is palpable, and for some reason, it's hard to stop at one squ The book is quite like finishing a whole bar of chocolate。 And not rich, dark chocolate。 But some grocery store milk chocolate。That is to say, it's indulgent。 And if we're being honest, not too good。 It satisfies some child like craving (and it's quite child like in its stiff, elementary writing)。 The indulgence is somewhat regretable, but maybe you just needed it that day。 Or there was no ferrero rocher around。 Still, the sugar rush is palpable, and for some reason, it's hard to stop at one square of the chocolate。 And if anything, the chocolate bar has some vibrant packaging。 。。。more

The author wrote very beautifully and it was very easy to lose track of time while reading this book。 The twist was nothing I had expected and I was thinking of options the whole read since I knew it was coming。

ok basically read this book in like 1 day— the twist was not everything I was hoping for but the writing was fantastic and nevertheless I still enjoyed the book overall and couldn’t put it down!

First 90% of the book was a 4-5 star read。 Last 10% was a 1 star。 This book has a plot twist that leaves so many plot holes it made me feel horribly unsatisfied。

The Distracted

The book was pretty good, but not one that I was really excited about。 The plot idea was very creative, the plot twist was expected but the way it was developed in the book I think was a little misleading (not in a good way)。It gripped me like a child who was just told to hold your hand before you walk across the street, but they think they're too old for that anymore。 Not like Pennywise in the bathroom after Beverly smashes her dad's head with the tank lid。 The book was pretty good, but not one that I was really excited about。 The plot idea was very creative, the plot twist was expected but the way it was developed in the book I think was a little misleading (not in a good way)。It gripped me like a child who was just told to hold your hand before you walk across the street, but they think they're too old for that anymore。 Not like Pennywise in the bathroom after Beverly smashes her dad's head with the tank lid。 。。。more

such a good plot twist!!! never knew what was coming next 😆

concurring with my fellow readers。。。 an enjoyable read without the satisfaction of an ending one might expect from such a mystery/thriller type。 the Greek myth references in the end did not pull their weight。 I also am wary of the mental health stigmas forwarded by this text, but admittedly I did find it both interesting and resonant。

Lothomju

wowza that was so good

This book has a really intriguing premise, but I stopped reading 75% of the way through because I wasn’t enjoying it。 I started this book ages ago and have picked it up and put it down repeatedly, hoping each time that I would get into it。 Unfortunately, that never happened for me despite the hype surrounding this book。

1ero。 De 2022, caramba estaba entre 4 o 5 estrellas, aunque siento que por una parte se veía venir en resultado final, sorprendió más de lo que esperaba。

This psychological thriller completely shocked me and I loved every second of it! Happy to say that this was my first read of 2022!

Greg Kondos

What a book! What a twist! I’m still thinking about it and wondering why I couldn’t see it coming? Let me tell you why, cause Alex Michaelides is brilliant! This book made me read to want to read more psychological thrillers, but none of them yet can’t pull up “the silent patient”The end, literally made me stand up and going back and forward!Bravo

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I read this super fast, and I think it was well done。 The plot bothered me though LOL。 Spoilers ahead: I wish there was a climax and a heroic act。 Instead we just find out what happened the night of the murder。 The present-day ending is really sad。 I wish Alicia got to be the hero and avenge herself。 Everyone talked about how narcissistic and crazy she was, but she was really a victim。 She didn’t get any vindication, which was unsatisfying。 It also annoyed me that half of Theo’s POV was from 6 y I read this super fast, and I think it was well done。 The plot bothered me though LOL。 Spoilers ahead: I wish there was a climax and a heroic act。 Instead we just find out what happened the night of the murder。 The present-day ending is really sad。 I wish Alicia got to be the hero and avenge herself。 Everyone talked about how narcissistic and crazy she was, but she was really a victim。 She didn’t get any vindication, which was unsatisfying。 It also annoyed me that half of Theo’s POV was from 6 years ago, and half was present day。 But I guess that’s the point 。。。more

I kept thinking I knew what the twist would be, but when it actually happened my jaw dropped。 It seemed so obvious l, but the author was very good with steering you in different directions。 So so good!

Although this book conformed to a few classic "who dunnit " tropes, I thoroughly enjoyed it and still think back on the ending。 This book is an entertaining read and I would recommend it。 Although this book conformed to a few classic "who dunnit " tropes, I thoroughly enjoyed it and still think back on the ending。 This book is an entertaining read and I would recommend it。 。。。more

While reading The Silent Patient, I didn't care for the fact this author let many plot holes throughout this book, and expected me as the reader to attempt to piece them together in the end。 There were also certain details that seemed implausible to me as reader, and I believe those scenes would have been to have been edited it out in the end。 The mystery that this title includes that a patient is not speaking, but the actual reveal as to why this patient wasn't speaking was a complete let down。 While reading The Silent Patient, I didn't care for the fact this author let many plot holes throughout this book, and expected me as the reader to attempt to piece them together in the end。 There were also certain details that seemed implausible to me as reader, and I believe those scenes would have been to have been edited it out in the end。 The mystery that this title includes that a patient is not speaking, but the actual reveal as to why this patient wasn't speaking was a complete let down。 There was really no suspense or mystery to it, and I wish the author would have written this reveal in a manner that included some sort of suspense to it。 There was so many spots while reading this book that I rolled my eyes, and so many spots in this book that weren't believable to me, and I thought the twits fell flat given to the fact there are so many plot wholes in this book。 。。。more

wtf did i just read?! i did not expect that twist at all。 as i was getting farther along the book, i was starting to think that the story wasn’t really going to impress me。 it seemed like the answer to the mystery was boring and predictable, but at the last second the truth was revealed and my jaw was DROPPED。
