It was just so BEAUTIFUL!!The sweetness in this story, in contrast to the sad heart-wrenching parts, was fantastically intertwined。 It was like one of those tunes that cheer you up when you are happy, and make you sob over it when your sad。 If I wanted a fun light-hearted read, I could go pick Peter Pan up, or if I wanted something touching and heart-wrenching, that I could cry over and over about, I could still pick it up。 The emotions this book has left on me, define the very existence of cont It was just so BEAUTIFUL!!The sweetness in this story, in contrast to the sad heart-wrenching parts, was fantastically intertwined。 It was like one of those tunes that cheer you up when you are happy, and make you sob over it when your sad。 If I wanted a fun light-hearted read, I could go pick Peter Pan up, or if I wanted something touching and heart-wrenching, that I could cry over and over about, I could still pick it up。 The emotions this book has left on me, define the very existence of controversy。 In shorter words, the book was much like the character it was named after。 Whimsical, funny, beautiful, lovely, sweet, dark, cruel, forgetful and mainly, innocent。 This book makes me wish I was the 6 years old who would think stars were shiny glitters you could play with, and not worry about anything。 My first book of 2022, an excellent way to start the year! 。。。more

I shamefully have not read the original。 I chose the audiobook this time, and it was entertaining and brought back memories from my childhood。 It was definitely darker than I remember it being (of course my favorite rendition is the stage production with Marry Martin in my VHS and watched to the extreme…remember the song… I Am Flying…?)。 But I enjoyed it nevertheless。

It’s a very whimsical book and it’s definitely a classic。 Good for kids and adults。 I think it’s a very good story for people to hear and teaches a pretty beautiful lesson。

I finally got around to purchasing it and boy am I happy I did。 I loved that this story explained more of the Peter Pan that I loved from the films。 I did however find the writing style hard to grasp at certain parts (this could just be because I'm not used to this type of writing)。 I enjoyed the ending, when Wendy returned to neverland for "spring cleaning" and when she grew older, her daughter I have been obsessed with Peter Pan since I was a little girl。 BUT I had never read the novel before!

while reading this book one realises that not growing up can make one be quite selfish and foreign to certain emotions

How could this book destroy my whole childhood dream of going to Neverland and be married to Peter Pan。 How could this book make me regret of ever to keep my window open most nights expecting Peter and Tinkerbell to appear and rescue me of ever growing up。 How could this book vanish all the good and sweet memories that were attached to the Disney adaptation。 Now all I have is rage and fear that if I ever rewatch the movie I'll hate it as much as I hate this damn book。 This was so violent, racist How could this book destroy my whole childhood dream of going to Neverland and be married to Peter Pan。 How could this book make me regret of ever to keep my window open most nights expecting Peter and Tinkerbell to appear and rescue me of ever growing up。 How could this book vanish all the good and sweet memories that were attached to the Disney adaptation。 Now all I have is rage and fear that if I ever rewatch the movie I'll hate it as much as I hate this damn book。 This was so violent, racist and misogynistic that I cant barely believe that Peter Pan would be considered a CHILDREN'S classic。 Because HOW can someone read all of these scenes to a child of all people。 I'm so disappointed that I barely have any words left to express my shattered heart after reading this。 Also Peter Pan being the white savior and Tinkerbell swearing all the time? Please give me a break。 And Wendy being the good housewife that the only purpose in life is to have kids and take care of the house? Please spare me of all of this。 。。。more

A little slower than I expected。 We spend a lot longer in the house underground than I thought we would, but overall enjoyed my first read of Peter Pan!

Peter Pan is a great, light and easy read that I needed after reading such intense non-fiction stories this year。 It is the story of a boy that can fly。 This book is enchanting and imaginative and while a fairytale sometimes that is exactly what we need, a story with a happy ending where good defeats evil。 This story is basically a rite of passage in childhood and everyone should read it at least once in their lifetime。 The first time I read it I was 12 years old and then I re-read it last year Peter Pan is a great, light and easy read that I needed after reading such intense non-fiction stories this year。 It is the story of a boy that can fly。 This book is enchanting and imaginative and while a fairytale sometimes that is exactly what we need, a story with a happy ending where good defeats evil。 This story is basically a rite of passage in childhood and everyone should read it at least once in their lifetime。 The first time I read it I was 12 years old and then I re-read it last year wondering if I would enjoy it as much as I did when I was younger。 While times have changed and some parts of this story have elements that are not exactly appropriate or true when it comes to the portrayal of the Native Americans, it is a product of its time and should be acknowledged and recognised as such。 I still enjoy this story while recognising that it can be viewed as problematic。 But please read it and enjoy it, because we should all be able to escape into the world of imagination every once in while。 。。。more

How did miss reading this?! I always was enthralled with this movie as a child, and my love deepend after enjoying (several times) Robin Williams in Hook。 But this gentle, adventurous, innocent book, heightened my delight and surpassed my expectations。

Peter Pan is a classic tale that everyone (or mostly everyone) knows。 A boy who never grows up escorts the Darlings to Neverland, where he and his band of Lost Boys want a mother to tell them stories and care for them。 Since we all know the story, I'm not going to recap much more than that。 There is so much whimsy, and childhood is captured in Barrie's words。 The narrative frame is so appropriate, as well。 It's like a story is being told verbally, real time。 Very cool。 I think there are a lot of Peter Pan is a classic tale that everyone (or mostly everyone) knows。 A boy who never grows up escorts the Darlings to Neverland, where he and his band of Lost Boys want a mother to tell them stories and care for them。 Since we all know the story, I'm not going to recap much more than that。 There is so much whimsy, and childhood is captured in Barrie's words。 The narrative frame is so appropriate, as well。 It's like a story is being told verbally, real time。 Very cool。 I think there are a lot of things about this story that are just so devastatingly sad, and there are moments that are so heartful and filled with wonder that it just balances itself out in the end。 Rave review, honestly。 So why 4 stars? Really, it's 3。75 stars。 Here's why:This book is a classic。 One of the areas we can judge a classic on is its timelessness。 There are so many places where Peter Pan proves its timelessness。 The girl power in this story is frankly rad。 However, the frequent and casual racial slur used to identify indigenous peoples simply does not hold up。 I'm not saying that this book is not wonderful where it's good, but in this way, it does not hold up as well as it once did。 。。。more

“To die would be an awfully big adventure。” I think the play is probably a lot better than the book。 That first chapter was WILD!

The humor in this is so subtle and so British。

When it's sweet, it's really sweet。 Definitely a novel of it's time period though。 As with many fairy tales and children's stories, much of it is darker in the written version than in the sanitized cartoon versions we know from movies and television。 When it's sweet, it's really sweet。 Definitely a novel of it's time period though。 As with many fairy tales and children's stories, much of it is darker in the written version than in the sanitized cartoon versions we know from movies and television。 。。。more

I really did not enjoy this book。 If I didn’t have to read it for uni, I would have left it at 40 pages and not finished it。 It felt like such a drag。 The characters were not likeable and incredibly annoying, the writing style was quite jarring and it wasn’t as magical as I was expecting - I guess that’s because of the Disney effect。 I wouldn’t really recommend it; it’s an elitist, misogynist novel that was a bit of a waste of time to read。

I always found myself worrying I’d find Peter Pan boring in book form but I ended up loving it and finished it very fast。
