This was the best book I’ve read in a long time, I loved this so much it helped me with how I’m feeling! You should definitely read this

I enjoyed this poetry collection better than her book The Sun and Her Flowers。 Poetry is hard to read because you connect with it or you do not。 This book I could connect with the heartbreak, the not feeling enough for that guy, and the slow healing process that comes with it。 I devoured this in one sitting and enjoyed every second of it。

ashley

beautiful and painful in all the right ways。 cant wait to read more from the author!

underwhelming, I expected more based on how popular and viral these poems are。 I missed the more complex metaphors and lyrical flow you find in other well written poems。 I can tell the author put bounds of emotion into writing this, but unfortunately that’s not enough to make it a good poetry book。

I read the entire book in one sitting and I am absolutely in love with the writing。 Rupi Kaur is an amazing poet and has a wonderful way to put words on paper。 Words cannot describe how amazing this book is written。 All I can say is that it’s worth your time。 It will make you discover things about the universe that you never thought you would discover。 This whole book feels like a big hug and a way for someone to tell you that they’re there for you。

It has some relevant and very relatable topics around the concept of feminity and corporality, but are poorly delivered。 The writing and diagramming could have been better。

read this near the end of 2021 and read it again because it’s just that good。 it hit me so hard in the chest and has inspired poetry of my own

Contrary to the popular belief, I love this book as a young woman I relate heavily to most of the topics in the poetry, to the point I believe that Rupi Kaur wrote this book specifically for me, to help me out of my relationship and helping me realise it’s okay to feel all the emotions you go through whilst heartbroken。 I love the ongoing analogies she uses, it’s such an easy read and i couldn’t put the book down。 Best place to read this is on the train with a nice cup of coffee :)

I really like this book。 It has emotional quotes that are very important to me。

This is not poetry and if you think it is, you have probably never read poetry in the first place。It's vague, just a cliché after cliché and has absolutely no artistic value。 Modern poetry is a lot different than the classical poetry, it's simple, but it tells a story through images/flashbacks and the conclusion is far beyond what the author concludes at the end, therefore, it's still poetry because there's something to look for in it, some kind of deeper meaning which is *always* there and you This is not poetry and if you think it is, you have probably never read poetry in the first place。It's vague, just a cliché after cliché and has absolutely no artistic value。 Modern poetry is a lot different than the classical poetry, it's simple, but it tells a story through images/flashbacks and the conclusion is far beyond what the author concludes at the end, therefore, it's still poetry because there's something to look for in it, some kind of deeper meaning which is *always* there and you need to read it a couple of times to try to understand what that meaning is。 And that's what poetry is about。 Rupi Kaur doesn't provide that, what she concludes is what it is, there's no symbolism, no powerful and authentic poetic images, no lyrical value, the style is undefined, everything seems like a random Tweet with plenty of illogical line breaks (which make the reading difficult), the illustrations are okay and they're probably the only thing with some artistic value in this book。 If she got rid of the "poems" and just published the drawings, I'd actually enjoy it。 Example of Rupi Kaur's "poetry":how is it so easy for youto be kind to people he askedmilk and honey dripped from my lips as i answeredcause people have notbeen kind to meWhat should've been done for it to be actual poetry:1) Get rid of the illogical line breaks2) Get rid of the "milk and honey" part because it's been overused, it's not original and short poems *must* be original in order to be good, cliches are bad even in classical poetry, but the poems are longer and more symbolic, therefore the cliché isn't as important, however, in short poems the picture the author is painting must be strong and unique in order to be meaningful3) Shift the focus to internal rather than external because。。。 short poems。。。 If she removed the pathetic parts she deems as "poetic" and actually dug deeper, this could be a great poem。 Instead of replying "cause people have not been kind to me" (which is soooooo shallow) she could've taken us through the subject's thought process upon being asked this question: for example - flashbacks: imagining the abuse she went through, the way others (mis)treated her, her fight with her own self + then cut to the answer: "I don't know" it would still be pathetic-ish, which is what Kaur's goal is, but it would actually make sense and could be classified as poetry。Once it's redone with the advice from above:how is it so easy for you to be kind to peoplehe askedmy mind trembled in the invasive chaos of thoughtsmy mother's belt around my neckthe smell of liquor on my father's handsthe rope growing out of the ceilingthe roots are grabbing me as i runi run towards the place i call hometowards the screams and cries and sobs of the familiar painthe unfamiliar kindnessthe broken chain of hope i still patch up and wear around my neckand it keeps pulling me towards the groundmy heart pounded and my hands shook and my voice broke into these insecure syllables as i answeredi don't knowStill cheesy and simple, but actually makes sense。 If I were Milk and Honey editor she would end up with four poems。 That's that。 One star for this one, although she deserves 0。(For the love of god, if you like modern poetry, please read Szymborska or someone who actually read at least three poetry collections in their lifetime。) 。。。more

probably one of the most overrated books of all time。pretentious motherfuckers popularized it and made it "aEstHetiC" but it's actually so average and mediocre。that's just my opinion, but i actually get really mad when people praise so much this book while there are lots of beautiful books with much better poems。 But obviously art Can be perceived in many different ways for each person, it's just trash for me probably one of the most overrated books of all time。pretentious motherfuckers popularized it and made it "aEstHetiC" but it's actually so average and mediocre。that's just my opinion, but i actually get really mad when people praise so much this book while there are lots of beautiful books with much better poems。 But obviously art Can be perceived in many different ways for each person, it's just trash for me 。。。more

It’s easy to see why this book is so popular。 Many pieces resonated with me, and I saw the beauty and hurt even in those that didn’t。

the start of this collection of poetry was so beautiful - in particular ‘the hurting’ and ‘the loving’。 this is the first poetry book i have read and it was breathtaking。 however in the third and fourth sections i found a few poems a little bit repetitive but otherwise a very poignant collection of poems

A beautiful collection of words gifted by a beautiful friend。 I will turn to these dog eared pages often。

Overall, this book was a good read and there were several individual poems that stood out to me in particular。 Some, I related with heavily, while others I did not。 While the lines of each page were meaningful, they did not all feel like full "poems。" As many other reviews pointed out, it probably wouldn't have seemed anywhere near as meaningful if written in typical sentence form rather than with spaces in the way it did。 Because of this, it felt like something you'd take a picture of and post Overall, this book was a good read and there were several individual poems that stood out to me in particular。 Some, I related with heavily, while others I did not。 While the lines of each page were meaningful, they did not all feel like full "poems。" As many other reviews pointed out, it probably wouldn't have seemed anywhere near as meaningful if written in typical sentence form rather than with spaces in the way it did。 Because of this, it felt like something you'd take a picture of and post on instagram to be seen as "artsy" and less like writing that is truly deep and profound。 However, as a whole I enjoyed this book and I plan to read more my this author。 。。。more
