Summary

Identify, understand, and reframe your life story with this essential guide for self-acceptance from Lisa Olivera, a therapist, writer, and creator of a wildly popular Instagram account。

When Lisa Olivera was just a few hours old, her birth mother abandoned her behind a rock near Muir Woods in Northern California。 She was found and later adopted。

Growing up, Lisa knew she was adopted。 She later learned she was abandoned。 Like with many adopted children, this led Lisa to wonder: why did her mother leave her behind? Without answers, Lisa came up with her own: something must be wrong with her。 Lisa came to believe she was not enough。 This story wasn’t true, but it made sense of a confusing experience。 It allowed her to move forward。 It felt like the only way。 Until, with the help of a therapist, Lisa began to tell herself a better story。

If you have ever felt like you didn’t belong, or like you weren’t worthy, or like you weren’t enough, just as you are。。。it might be time for you to rewrite your story, too。 Now a therapist herself, Lisa shows you how。

In Already Enough, Lisa explores how our stories affect us—often much more than we realize。 She guides us through reframing our stories so we can remember that we are already enough, just as we are。 And she invites us to join her on a transformative journey to healing。 Tender, hopeful, and inspiring, Already Enough is a powerful reminder that we are the authors of our own stories。 The sooner we decide to write a better story, the sooner we can live a more whole, more meaningful, more nourishing life。

I absolutely loved Already Enough。 It is written in Lisa's gently guiding voice that is such a comfort for those of us looking to feel seen and supported。 As an adoptee myself, it was amazing to hear more of Lisa's deeply personal story woven throughout and the trauma of family separation acknowledged at multiple points。 Her descriptions of adoptee grief were very relatable。There are dozens and dozens of thoughtful questions throughout the book that could be used for journal prompts, self-reflec I absolutely loved Already Enough。 It is written in Lisa's gently guiding voice that is such a comfort for those of us looking to feel seen and supported。 As an adoptee myself, it was amazing to hear more of Lisa's deeply personal story woven throughout and the trauma of family separation acknowledged at multiple points。 Her descriptions of adoptee grief were very relatable。There are dozens and dozens of thoughtful questions throughout the book that could be used for journal prompts, self-reflection, to take to our own therapists to process。。。I found them incredibly valuable and I can see myself returning to different sections time and time again。 。。。more

ALREADY ENOUGHBY LISA OLIVERAThis book was AMAZING! If I could give it one hundred stars I certainly would。 Never before have I come across a book like this。 It is seriously addictive--at least for me as this is the first time I have read a book about self discovery and read it several times。 It is tempting not to keep reading it because it is packed with questions to ponder over and they are questions once answered to learn so much about myself。 Anybody who reads this will benefit from it makin ALREADY ENOUGHBY LISA OLIVERAThis book was AMAZING! If I could give it one hundred stars I certainly would。 Never before have I come across a book like this。 It is seriously addictive--at least for me as this is the first time I have read a book about self discovery and read it several times。 It is tempting not to keep reading it because it is packed with questions to ponder over and they are questions once answered to learn so much about myself。 Anybody who reads this will benefit from it making it appeal to a wide audience。 I got so much out of it and it was a joy to read。 If you have ever doubted yourself in anyway then this is the book for you。Lisa Olivera takes a much deeper dive into whether you always feel like enough。 This book blew me away with all of the questions to reflect upon in this part memoir, part collaboration with including the work of many famous Authors that I had heard of and introduced me to others that I really want to explore。 Lisa shares her own personal story about being abandoned and found by two people who took her to the hospital because she was just a newborn baby left out in the wild。 She shares her story being so generous with the details of what it was like for her to learn she was adopted and not being around any other adopted children。 She is a kind and gentle soul that has admitted that feeling like her own birth mother didn't want her then maybe she wasn't enough to be wanted and cared for and celebrated at her birth like we as mothers often feel like the births of our children are the happiest days of our lives。Lisa Olivera has taken her story and transformed her life into a kind and tender guide as a therapist and now a wonderful Author with so much humbleness。 She says right up front that her book might not resonate with its readers and that is okay because she doesn't believe in a book to be a quick fix for we are all always changing and this inner work is a process。 She invites her readers to disagree with her because no one book is the be all end all。 I found her easy going style so refreshing and I think that I will buy myself a copy because I feel that this is the type of book that I will keep returning to again。Her reflective questions really did resonate with me and I found that I re-read it three times which I have never done before with any other book。 I just never expected to love this as much as I did。 One of many favorite quotes from the book is that an emotion has the lifespan of just ninety seconds。 What Lisa infers from that theory is it is the stories that are often myths we tell ourselves around that ninety second emotion is what keeps us holding onto it longer。 An emotion is just an emotion。 A feeling is just a feeling and an experience is just an experience。 We all have stories that we have come to believe based on many factors。 Some are from our caregivers and what our siblings told us or some are from many other influences such as society and the media。As a therapist she has also given examples from composite clients whose names have been changed along with many examples of ideas why we keep living the examples of our own individual stories that we hold to be embedded deep within our beliefs。 She has taken many works and woven a narrative with more questions than I have ever read before which I found to have so much value in order to challenge these stories we all tell ourselves。 I already knew from Dr。 Bruce Lipton's groundbreaking discovery which I find fascinating that between the age of birth until we reach age seven we are like video recorder's soaking up everything we witness in a theta brain wave state。 We soak up everything we see, hear and sense from our environments。 This can become a life long belief and it doesn't always serve us as we grow and change。 Lisa has hope that these sometimes myths that we incorporate as our own stories can be not true but if it serves us we can hold on to them because we are hard wired to accept what is familiar。 Human nature tends to lead us to be comfortable with the familiar and with her questions it is possible to re-frame the stories that we carry。 She gives us hope with her questions and with her personal story and easy to access numerous collective ideas gleaned from other sources who I admire。 This will be a permanent resource until I have memorized it。 Again, I can't emphasize enough how universal and timeless this book is and with an open mind and a willingness towards self discovery this could just be the book for everybody。 Highly。 Highly Recommended!Publication Date: January 25, 2022Thank you to Net Galley, Lisa Olivera and Simon & Schuster for generously providing me with my ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review。 All opinions are my own。#AlreadyEnough #LisaOlivera #Simon&Schuster #NetGalley 。。。more

Already Enough is a guide to reframing the stories we tell ourselves and offers encouragement to accept ourselves entirely。 Olivera, a therapist (@_lisaolivera on Instagram) who was abandoned as a newborn uses her personal experience to explain how we, as humans, create stories (to make sense out of the nonsensical) that need to be challenged and rewritten。 She also shares how a therapist helped her see how her old stories benefited her and how updating them would would allow her to see that she Already Enough is a guide to reframing the stories we tell ourselves and offers encouragement to accept ourselves entirely。 Olivera, a therapist (@_lisaolivera on Instagram) who was abandoned as a newborn uses her personal experience to explain how we, as humans, create stories (to make sense out of the nonsensical) that need to be challenged and rewritten。 She also shares how a therapist helped her see how her old stories benefited her and how updating them would would allow her to see that she is inherently worthy and enough。 I felt an overwhelming amount of support, encouragement, compassion, and kindness reading this book。 It feels like Olivera cares about the reader and wants him to feel like everything is okay and that it's okay to have feelings (even if they're negative!) and that it's up to him to decide how he wants to live, especially if he didn't have a childhood he wanted。 Unlike many self-help books I've read, Olivera includes thoughtful check-in points where the reader is encouraged to acknowledge the difficulty in doing deep inner work while Olivera offers words of praise and encouragement。 There is also a useful resource guide organized by topic with more books readers might find useful as they continue their journey toward self-acceptance。This book will resonate most with curious people looking to reframe their stories and who are seeking to better understand themselves and those around them。 By reading Already Enough, readers will find that a more meaningful and nourishing life is always within reach。(Thanks to Simon & Schuster for providing an ARC via NetGalley) 。。。more

"We so easily forget that accepting ourselves isn’t about reaching some final destination but is more about doing the deep work of slowing down, turning inward, and gently reintroducing yourself to parts of you that you were told you should fix。"What a joy and gift this book was to read。 Lisa Olivera is a kind and gentle voice throughout this book as she walks you through the journey of unpacking your own stories and finding your way back to yourself。 Lisa guides you to spend time seeing and und "We so easily forget that accepting ourselves isn’t about reaching some final destination but is more about doing the deep work of slowing down, turning inward, and gently reintroducing yourself to parts of you that you were told you should fix。"What a joy and gift this book was to read。 Lisa Olivera is a kind and gentle voice throughout this book as she walks you through the journey of unpacking your own stories and finding your way back to yourself。 Lisa guides you to spend time seeing and understanding the stories you're telling yourself so that you can put the distance you need between yourself and the stories and can see the distortion they cause in your life。 This book doesn't contain absolutes, quick fixes or easy answers。 "Looking for confirmation of our stories is a way of consistently validating the belief that they are true, which makes it really challenging to see things through a different lens。 But once you start, you can look for proof of the opposite—and make room for the possibility that the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves are wrong。"Instead it encourages you to look within yourself, ask yourself the questions and create room for the possibility that maybe your stories are not, in fact, truth。 Maybe, just maybe, you are creating this lens that is not serving you and you might be able to let it go and choose a different way to see things。 She gently pushes you to explore and question and make room for possibility。"The truth is that unless we do that work internally, a relationship will only mirror the work we haven’t yet done within ourselves。"This book is not a lecture。 It's an interactive experience。 There are many questions at the end of each chapter, inviting you to participate in your own journey。 Inviting you to explore。 To dig deeper。 To be willing to do the work。 To show up for your own life。 It gently guides you through the steps of slowly coming back to yourself。 Being who you are meant to be without all the distortion。 Giving yourself what you need。 Creating the version of you that feels most true to you。 Reminding you that you get to choose。 You always get to choose。"The truth is that we get to choose who we are。 We get to choose how we care for ourselves and how we show up in the world。"with gratitude to netgalley and Simon & Schuster for an early copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more
