Summary

'Emotional, involving, witty and sad。 Everyone is going to love Lenni and Margot'
JILL MANSELL

'Lenni and Margot are two of the most wonderful, warm, witty and wise heroines I've ever met。 Beautiful and glorious' CLARE POOLEY, author of The Authenticity Project

Fiercely alive, disarmingly funny and brimming with tenderness, THE ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF LENNI AND MARGOT unwraps the extraordinary gift of life, and revels in our infinite capacity for friendship and love when we need them most。
_______________________________________

Life is short。

No-one knows that better than seventeen-year-old Lenni。 But as she is about to learn, it's not only what you make of life that matters, but who you share it with。

Dodging doctor's orders, she joins an art class where she bumps into fellow patient Margot, a rebel-hearted eight-three-year-old from the next ward。 Their bond is instant as they realize that together they have lived an astonishing one hundred years。

To celebrate their shared century, they decide to paint their life stories: of growing old and staying young, of giving joy, of receiving kindness, of losing love, of finding the person who is everything。

As their friendship deepens, it becomes vividly clear that life is not done with Lenni and Margot yet。

An extraordinary friendship。 A lifetime of stories。 Their last one begins here。

A sweet and poignant story about two women, one younger, one older, both on the same path of friendship, love and laughter。 Narration is like a warm hug。

Dive on inTruly one of the best books I have ever read。 Reminds us we all have something to offer…we can all find our people…and we all leave a mark。 It pulls at your heart strings, but this story is worth reading。

A beautiful story, but a very slow read

This both makes my heart happy and brought tears to my eyes。 It’s one of those books that takes you on a roller coaster of emotions but still leaves you feeling good and hopeful about life and humanity。

I love the idea this book, but didn’t love the actual book。 The story is about Lenni who is 17, and Margot who is 83。 They meet at the hospital and realize their combined ages are 100。 They go to the arts room to create a series of 100 paintings, one to represent each year they have been alive。 With the painting comes a story they tell each other about their lives。 Throughout the time in the hospital they also form relationships with other patients, the nurses and a priest。 Some of their stories I love the idea this book, but didn’t love the actual book。 The story is about Lenni who is 17, and Margot who is 83。 They meet at the hospital and realize their combined ages are 100。 They go to the arts room to create a series of 100 paintings, one to represent each year they have been alive。 With the painting comes a story they tell each other about their lives。 Throughout the time in the hospital they also form relationships with other patients, the nurses and a priest。 Some of their stories were interesting but overall it fell a little flat for me。 。。。more

A lovely book following the friendship between 17 year old Lenni and 83 year old Margot, whilst they are in hospital。 The book also flips to the past to tell about both character's lives。 There is also Father Arthur and his comical interaction with Lenni, which I loved and wished there was more off。It was easy to fall in love with the characters, smiling with them, rooting for them and causing tears at the end (even though you know from the beginning what the end is!)。It also portrays a serious, A lovely book following the friendship between 17 year old Lenni and 83 year old Margot, whilst they are in hospital。 The book also flips to the past to tell about both character's lives。 There is also Father Arthur and his comical interaction with Lenni, which I loved and wished there was more off。It was easy to fall in love with the characters, smiling with them, rooting for them and causing tears at the end (even though you know from the beginning what the end is!)。It also portrays a serious, scary and sad topic in an interesting way。 。。。more

A beautiful story of life, loves lost, lives fulfilled, illness, death, and hope。 A sweet and well-written story of truth。Note: I listened to the recorded book which was read by two Scottish women, one old and one young, and their performances add magnificently to the book!

This is one of those books that I really wanted to like 。。。 tried twice this year to read it and made it most of the way through before I gave up for good。 So many of my friends love this book but somehow it just was not my cup of tea。 I love the premise and I feel badly that I did not like。 Weird, huh?

A beautiful tale of two dying women — one young and one old — and the moments of their lives that made them worth living。 This is a story of friendship, love, desire, and curiosity。 Margot and Lenni are such a lovable duo — and are phenomenal women on their own。 I knew when I read the first page that this book was going to destroy me。 It did not disappoint。

Claire

Fantastic book! Lenni and Margot had me laughing and crying throughout the whole book, I felt their pain, their misery and even their happiest moments。 I hear its being made into a film and I for one cannot wait to watch it!

Such a great read! Had me in tears multiple times and also laughing during other parts! While I don't love all the life choices the characters made it was a book about life, which sometimes can seem so unfair especially for Lenni who is dying at the age of 17。 I love how the characters from the May ward all come together to support each-other through their journeys。 Great read!!! My favorite read of 2021。 I felt the emotion of this book deep down in my bones。 There were so many times where this book tugged on my heart strings。 I felt sad, angry, happy, giddy, and every other emotion that can possibly be conveyed through Cronin's work。 I think this book taught me a lot about being thankful, being optimistic in difficult times, and always looking for the light a the end of the tunnel。 If there was only one word I could use to describe this book it would be: beautiful。 My favorite read of 2021。 I felt the emotion of this book deep down in my bones。 There were so many times where this book tugged on my heart strings。 I felt sad, angry, happy, giddy, and every other emotion that can possibly be conveyed through Cronin's work。 I think this book taught me a lot about being thankful, being optimistic in difficult times, and always looking for the light a the end of the tunnel。 If there was only one word I could use to describe this book it would be: beautiful。 。。。more

3。75 stars ⭐️ I loved the friendship between Lenni and Margot, the community that was created in the hospital, and the unique and unexpected story line of telling Lenni and Margot’s life story though art。 I felt the relationship between Lenni and Margot could have been more developed and central to the story。 In addition, the Meena storyline was frustrating and a thorn in a plot full of yellow and beautiful roses。

。。。more
