Summary

"I guess it does
look like a poem
when you see it
typed up
like that。"

Jack hates poetry。 Only girls write it and every time he tries to, his brain feels empty。 But his teacher, Ms。 Stretchberry, won't stop giving her class poetry assignments -- and Jack can't avoid them。 But then something amazing happens。 The more he writes, the more he learns he does have something to say。

tells the story of a boy jack that learns how to communicate feelings through writing and starts to become confident in his writing and in himself。 cheesy to say but this book changed my life。 i want to meet my reading goal and so i went through my bookshelf looking for small books。 when i saw this i was reminded by how much i love this story and wanted to reread it right away。 i haven’t read it since grade school and it still holds up。

Read with my classroom。 Always brings me to tears。

I love poetry。 I love introducing kids to poetry。 I love poets that build on their poets。 This little book does all three。 It honors poetry and creates new ground。

well first of all, in retrospect maybe it wasn’t the best idea to re-read this one day after losing my “yellow dog” — but the dog plays a relatively small part + a boy discovers a love for poetry, and learns that boys—not just girls—can write poetry + a beautiful, poignant treasure•“My yellow dogfollowed me everywhereevery which way I turnedhe was therewagging his tailand slobbercoming outof his mouthwhen he was smilingat meall the time”💔instagram book reviews @brettlikesbooks

This book gave me mixed feelings。 I loved how the boy made a poem of his dog, to remember the good old memories。 This was a beautifully made book。

This was a really good, sweet and short book about Jack, a elementary school kid (I’m guessing) that’s learning about and exploring his love for poems and poetry。 It’s also about coping with the death of his dog, Sky, through poems and life。 I really recommend this book for a short read with lots of love。

Using this as a mentor text。 This is such a good book。 Oh my heart。

A timeless classic that is expertly told。 No one is too old for this big- hearted slim book of poetry。 It is essential to any home library。

I resisted reading this for years, and I really wish I hadn’t。 The element that caused me to avoid the book - the poetry format - was the very thing that made it such a delightful read。 I’m excited to recommend this book to my students, especially struggling readers。 Sharon Creech knows how to pack a punch in just a few words, and the references (and reactions to!) to well-known poems make this a great teaching text。 One more note: anyone who has ever loved a dog will appreciate Love That Dog。

I read it to my class and I feel like I would’ve rated it higher if I read it on my own。 Super short, could be read in less than an hour。

For work。 Review to come。

This is such a beautiful little book。 I read it when I was in elementary school and just reread it because I think I’ll get it as a Christmas present for my niece。Wow, it’s so sweet, and I was so moved。 I’m tearing up all over the place。

This book was okay。 It was kind of a sad book, and I expected it to actually be longer。 I normally don’t like poetry so that’s probably why I didn’t like it as much。 I like this author, but I was somewhat disappointed on this book。

Poetry 5th+ I really enjoyed this book about poetry。 I loved how it followed a plot。 That is honestly my favorite kind of poetry。 I also loved how the book teaches students that everyone can write poetry and everyone has something to say。 I feel that this really matter when it comes to these grades and ages。 I also really enjoyed the thoughts that this book brings forth。

Many of my students seemed to like this when we had a “Book Tasting。” Is it only because it’s short?

3。5 stars! A cute short book of poetry written by a little boy that played out as a short story。 This is the first in the series so I may be picking up the other ones soon!

My 10-year-old son just read this book aloud to me。 We both loved it。 My kid reads well but doesn't really enjoy reading。 This book spoke to him and he really got into the format and the story。 5-star review from us both。 My 10-year-old son just read this book aloud to me。 We both loved it。 My kid reads well but doesn't really enjoy reading。 This book spoke to him and he really got into the format and the story。 5-star review from us both。 。。。more
