Summary

A slipcased paperback edition of a modern fantasy tale set in the wider world of Bleach, by Bleach author Tite Kubo!

Behind the world you think you know lies a land of magic and fairy tales—but Reverse London isn’t the pretty picture that’s painted in children’s books。 Fairy tales have teeth, and the dedicated agents of Wing Bind are the only thing standing between you and the real story。

Ninny Spangcole and Noel Niihashi are Wing Bind agents, and they aren’t serving out of the goodness of their hearts—they want achievement points and cold, hard credits in their bank accounts。 But instead of getting a prime assignment with lots of gold and glory, they get stuck on babysitting duty。 Before they can grow comfortable with boredom, Ninny and Noel find themselves on the run with a fugitive who’s like catnip for dragons。 Can they manage to pull off a happy ending or has their story just been cursed?

Imagine Taking THAT For A Walk!A decent read。 I enjoyed it but I thought because it was being promoted as a one shot that it would have a contained story which it didn't really。 Things were left unresolved or up in the air。 There was also a character that really annoyed me and took away a bit of my enjoyment。 However that said, I loved the artwork and most of the characters, the world was fascinating and I would be interested in reading another volume。 Worth a read if you're a fan of Tite Kubo! This manga was such a pleasant surprise! Burn the Witch’s world and story ended up being very different from what I expected, but in the best way possible for me。 I fell in love with everything it had to offer and am incredibly excited to read more whenever Kubo makes the “second season” happen。

It's。。。a harem series, sort of? It's shaping up to be two competent girls being saddled with a bunch of annoying problem characters, anyway。 It's。。。a harem series, sort of? It's shaping up to be two competent girls being saddled with a bunch of annoying problem characters, anyway。 。。。more

Interesting premise but characters seem to lack much depth。

Perfect for fans of bleach's art style and the magical girl horror of Madoka Magica。As someone who is utterly a fan of both, this manga was basically heaven。 It carried the shellshock that Madoka Magica, but has an arguably more enjoyable plot line (do I need to remind people of the dragon-esque creatures?)。 I cannot wait to see where this manga goes in the future! I haven't seen the anime, and I had a really hard time understanding what was going on and how all the characters were connected? Like randomly someone is in a band and their band mate is raising a dragon? Like I literally could not follow this。 Maybe it's me, but it's also maybe this book。 Also, can we stop normalizing trying to look up girls skirts? Like his friend calls him out on it, but then the friend is a dead demon/dragon, so。。。 I haven't seen the anime, and I had a really hard time understanding what was going on and how all the characters were connected? Okay, so London has this secret world called Reverse London where witches live。 These witches have the ability to at least see these supernatural beings called Dragons (normies can't see them)。 Each dragon is unique and you can even keep some of them as pets, but you have to be certified to even touch them because over exposure to a dragon will infect you with dragontoxin and turn you into dragonclad which means dragons will be naturally drawn to you and feed on your negative emotions and transf Okay, so London has this secret world called Reverse London where witches live。 These witches have the ability to at least see these supernatural beings called Dragons (normies can't see them)。 Each dragon is unique and you can even keep some of them as pets, but you have to be certified to even touch them because over exposure to a dragon will infect you with dragontoxin and turn you into dragonclad which means dragons will be naturally drawn to you and feed on your negative emotions and transform into dark dragons that are Whew, that was a lot of info dump just to explain the world, which is somehow connected to the Bleach universe because where our main characters work is called Soul Society West Branch。And speaking of our main characters。。。 we don't really seem to have one。 The first guess is Noel Niihashi since she's the first character we meet in the one-shot prologue but she's extremely bland。 She's a big-boobed high school girl who is also a witch that conserves (manages) dragons but there's no enthusiasm behind anything she does。 Meanwhile, her partner Ninny Spangcole is a pop star who is also a witch with a punk attitude。 She's mostly in it for the rewards。 Then there's Balgo, the poor human who accidently befriended two dragons and became a dragonclad。 He's a perv with a major crush on Noel and (currently) a completely useless idiot who has no idea what he's doing。 (He's basically this story's Kon)There's not a lot of plot so far, other than Balgo finding out he's dragonclad, having to move to Reverse London, and deal with not only dragons but bounty hunting witches who want him dead。 There also seems to be a lot of just telling and not actually showing。 This is a series about witches and dragons and I wanna see some action! Overall, not super impressed with this series so far, but it's only volume one, so we'll see。 。。。more

The art is stunning, as one would expect with Kubo, but the story is just kind of a muddled mess。

Behind our world there is land of magic and fairy tales。 This is the story of that world。 It is by the creator of Bleach which was one of the first manga I read all the way through so this already had a special place for me。 It is set in London and has dragons。 It is the witches job to keep the dragons under control。 So it fast paced and a lot of fun。 I couldn't help but see a lot of comparisons with Bleach, they were just dragons instead of Hollow。 But even thought it was similar to other manga Behind our world there is land of magic and fairy tales。 This is the story of that world。 It is by the creator of Bleach which was one of the first manga I read all the way through so this already had a special place for me。 It is set in London and has dragons。 It is the witches job to keep the dragons under control。 So it fast paced and a lot of fun。 I couldn't help but see a lot of comparisons with Bleach, they were just dragons instead of Hollow。 But even thought it was similar to other manga, this was so much fun to read。 I couldn't put it down。 It brought all my favorite things about this type of manga into one book。 I can't wait to get my hands on volume 2。5 stars。 。。。more

Noel Niihashi and Ninny Spangcole are witches working for Wing Bind in Reverse London。 While tasked with conserving and harvesting dragons, they often find themselves in battle with them, while also keeping an eye on Balgo Parks, a Dragonclad (those who, through contact with dragons, are able to see and attract them)。 This series comes from TIto Kube, creator of the long-running Bleach, and it takes place in the same fictional world as his prior series。Tito Kube's Bleach was a bit of a slow burn Noel Niihashi and Ninny Spangcole are witches working for Wing Bind in Reverse London。 While tasked with conserving and harvesting dragons, they often find themselves in battle with them, while also keeping an eye on Balgo Parks, a Dragonclad (those who, through contact with dragons, are able to see and attract them)。 This series comes from TIto Kube, creator of the long-running Bleach, and it takes place in the same fictional world as his prior series。Tito Kube's Bleach was a bit of a slow burn, taking a significant amount of time to set up characters, relationships, and the fictional world before ultimately getting to the meat of the story。 Burn the Witch is apparently much the same, with this first volume establishing our heroines, the world of Reverse London, and their roles in Wing Bind。 It's really just four installments of battles with dragons, with the latter part of the book starting to establish what will apparently be the larger story。Noel and Ninny are appealing characters, polar opposite in many ways, with Noel being cool, calm and reserved, while Ninny is loud and hot-tempered。 Their primary supporting cast initially is primarily Balgo, who here serves principally to be a pest with an extreme crush on Noel。There's world-building aplenty here, with plenty of opportunities for the author to explain about Reverse London, dragons, and the rules surrounding them。 Structurally, though, this is really not much more than another version of Bleach, with factions and hierarchies within Wing Bind and powers and abilities akin to those of Soul Reapers。As an introduction to the series, this volume accomplishes its task, but the adventures of the characters don't advance the story enough to really motivate much to move on to the second volume。 Additionally, the action sometimes muddles the actual storytelling, such that some stories don't so much seem to end as just to stop。 Ultimately, anyone who enjoyed and had the patience for the early volumes of Bleach might find enough to keep them interested, but the sometimes confusing storytelling and slow set-up of an overarching plot makes this somewhat forgettable, though at times entertaining。Thanks to Netgalley and Viz for providing the ARC for review。 。。。more

I love the art。 Tite Kubo's art is so fantastic you cannot deny how mesmerizing the characters all look。 I think the story and world are a bit more complicated than Bleach。 This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I think it's a good thing to know before going in。 This story is mostly about dragons。 The witch thing is similar to the soul society and their soul reapers。 Not as cool though, in my opinion。 I love the guy who has the skull mask。 He is hot, no lie。 The names in this series aren't my f I love the art。 Tite Kubo's art is so fantastic you cannot deny how mesmerizing the characters all look。 I think the story and world are a bit more complicated than Bleach。 This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I think it's a good thing to know before going in。 This story is mostly about dragons。 The witch thing is similar to the soul society and their soul reapers。 Not as cool though, in my opinion。 I love the guy who has the skull mask。 He is hot, no lie。 The names in this series aren't my fav, going to be hard for me to remember。 。。。more

An intriguing fantasy story with charm and turns the ideas of fairytales on its head。 Just wish there was more material to chew but the dynamics of our main characters are clearly defined and bounce off one another really well。 Ninny the pop idol who doesn't believe in fantastical miracles like fairy tales (ironic bc she's in one) but sees for herself to be in control of her own destiny。 Having her be the one that always sparks the initiative to climb higher in society which makes sense since sh An intriguing fantasy story with charm and turns the ideas of fairytales on its head。 Just wish there was more material to chew but the dynamics of our main characters are clearly defined and bounce off one another really well。 Ninny the pop idol who doesn't believe in fantastical miracles like fairy tales (ironic bc she's in one) but sees for herself to be in control of her own destiny。 Having her be the one that always sparks the initiative to climb higher in society which makes sense since she has climed to stardom by being a pop idol in the normal world。 This firey personality bounces well off with her teammate Noel who is more level-headed about situations and is always trying to keep Ninny's temper in check。 I think the world-building has set itself up for an interesting ride since our MCs are nowhere near the top of the food chain when it comes to power scaling and the variety of different dragons yet to be explored sets itself up for more story which I am interested to see。 。。。more

I'll say up front that I haven't read bleach, so I'm not sure how much context and backstory I missed because of coming to this series cold。 That said, I was pretty disappointed。 The world building was really cool (with dragons, a reverse London, and magical office politics), and the art is very manga cool (with the added bonus of well drawn and choreographed fight scenes), but the plot was incoherent and the character motivations were tropey, overly dramatic, inconsistent, and unbelievable。 I'l I'll say up front that I haven't read bleach, so I'm not sure how much context and backstory I missed because of coming to this series cold。 That said, I was pretty disappointed。 The world building was really cool (with dragons, a reverse London, and magical office politics), and the art is very manga cool (with the added bonus of well drawn and choreographed fight scenes), but the plot was incoherent and the character motivations were tropey, overly dramatic, inconsistent, and unbelievable。 I'll read the next volume, but I'll have lower expectations and enjoy this for the fun candy it is。**Thanks to the artist, publisher, and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

I wanted to love this。 I love fantasy。 I love graphic novels。 The description on the book sounded amazing-like this was going to be exactly the sort of thing I love。 The cover looked like this might be funny。 I was a bit bored reading this。 And the jokes seemed to be mostly of the Boobies! Panties! variety。 If that’s how you get your chuckles no harm no foul but…。 No thanks。
