I’m going to be 100% with this review (as I am on any other review), this was a slightly uncomfortable read for me。 Which if you have read the previous volumes in this series, you will know this series edges on the more adult humor; however, I felt this volume took it a step WAY too far with the first half of this volume。 However, the second half of this volume was a whole different story。 The introduction of a brand new character was the only reason I gave this an extra star one more than I ini I’m going to be 100% with this review (as I am on any other review), this was a slightly uncomfortable read for me。 Which if you have read the previous volumes in this series, you will know this series edges on the more adult humor; however, I felt this volume took it a step WAY too far with the first half of this volume。 However, the second half of this volume was a whole different story。 The introduction of a brand new character was the only reason I gave this an extra star one more than I initially felt this deserved。 Still planning on getting the next volume just hope they ease up on this kind of “humor” and it doesn’t get worse。 。。。more

Such strange characters, such unnaturally slim bodies, yet it somehow fits。Ko and Nazuna continue their nightly adventures。 Nazuna gets roped into working at a vamp maid cafe。 She's not particularly suited for the role。 A new character is introduced, and I suspect they will be playing a reoccurring role, especially after the events at the school, and Ko's connection to a person the new character is searching for。 Midori is actually pretty hot, when you get down to brass tacks。 I wonder if we wil Such strange characters, such unnaturally slim bodies, yet it somehow fits。Ko and Nazuna continue their nightly adventures。 Nazuna gets roped into working at a vamp maid cafe。 She's not particularly suited for the role。 A new character is introduced, and I suspect they will be playing a reoccurring role, especially after the events at the school, and Ko's connection to a person the new character is searching for。 Midori is actually pretty hot, when you get down to brass tacks。 I wonder if we will see more of Kiyosumi, the cute OL that Nazu threw out a window a couple volumes back。 。。。more

Hi Gemmies, I have a new manga review for you。 Call of the Night Volume 4 by Kotoyama is so much better than volumes 1 & 2! I feel this series really stared to come alive in volume 3, and volume 4 is even better。 We get to meet more characters and vampires。 We also get a bit of a mystery in this volume and learn a little more about vampire lore in this world。 Nazuna and Ko remain socially awkward, a little bit creepy, perverted, and just downright funny。 There wasn’t a lot of progression with th Hi Gemmies, I have a new manga review for you。 Call of the Night Volume 4 by Kotoyama is so much better than volumes 1 & 2! Happy Reading! 。。。more

Ko and Nazuna continue their nightly jaunts, but strange detectives and unpleasant realities are added to the mix。 Before that, however, it’s time for a maid café, a mystery, student-teacher night, and the joy of trespassing!I don’t pretend to understand my fondness for this story - it’s unfocused, meandering, and appears to be about not much of anything。 I mention this every time because I keep expecting to be sick of it, but I am not。 Some things make you happy for no reason, this story is kin Ko and Nazuna continue their nightly jaunts, but strange detectives and unpleasant realities are added to the mix。 Before that, however, it’s time for a maid café, a mystery, student-teacher night, and the joy of trespassing!I don’t pretend to understand my fondness for this story - it’s unfocused, meandering, and appears to be about not much of anything。 I mention this every time because I keep expecting to be sick of it, but I am not。 Some things make you happy for no reason, this story is kind of there for me。The first section features Aki, who was turned last volume。 I really wish Ko would not call him Mental Guy, but at the same time, part of the thing with Ko is that he is in some ways wise, but in other ways a naive, obnoxious teenager (less frequent, but it happens)。Aki’s definitely gotten a level up since turning, but it sure makes Ko seem even more delicious。 His advice to the young man eventually turns into a very nearly hot and heavy encounter with Nazuna, who espouses a theory about what’s sexy that I happen to agree with 100%, so this volume was already off on the right foot。Then the maid café happens, which is not as awful as feared and brings back Kohakobe, one of the vampire women who wants to nibble on Ko。 Her whole ‘thing’ is that she thinks she is beyond cute, though Ko is utterly impervious to her nonsense。Actually, the author admits to just wanting to draw a maid café, but gets surprising mileage from it - Kohakobe gets Nazuna to fill in because she thinks Nazuna won’t upstage her and, in a welcome break from what you’d expect, Nazuna doesn’t even come close。Between Nazuna’s entirely anti-maid attitude and Ko picking apart the entire premise of maid cafés, this very much has its cake and eats it too。 Then pivots hard into a full-blown mystery。 It’s not hard to figure out, but it is fun to see Ko working through the solution logically (and he’s having as much fun delivering stock detective lines as anybody would in that situation)。 That mystery itself turns into a life lesson about embracing the things they make you weird and I wasn’t expecting that, but as somebody who often feels like they march to the beat of their own drum, it resonated with me。There’s a lot more with Ko’s friend, Asai, this volume too。 I really like her because, unlike Ko, she’s still trapped in her facade and is well aware of it。 We get a flashback where she blames herself for hurting people, which I don’t necessarily think is accurate, but it’s not hard to see how she’d go there given how events seem to have caused Ko to give up on school。Asai returns in a later chapter along with Mahiru, one of Ko’s other distanced friends, as the trio embark on a daring nighttime investigation of school grounds that I really like because it captures the glee of teenagers thinking they’re being so edgy breaking the rules。They have a blast investigating the schools seven mysteries (give or take a couple) and generally goofing around having fun, until the situation takes a decidedly more sinister turn。This brings back a character introduced earlier this volume, Anko, a very strange private detective。 In her initial introduction she doesn’t seem terribly bothered when Ko unintentionally propositions her (in fact, she’s way more interested than she should be)。 There’s also a very appreciated Detective Conan reference。But it turns out that tracking down cheating spouses isn’t all that’s on Anka’s job list and her methods and views turn out to put her much more at odds with Ko, suggesting that either she is very biased or Ko is incredibly naive。 I’m willing to say that I think both are pretty possible。It’s a hefty reality check that for all the flirtation and Ko’s own desires, he is still asking to be turned into a creature that feeds on others in some form or another。 I’m not sure where this is heading, but it’s an interesting wrinkle。As you can see, this book kind of meanders all over the place。 It feels more of a ‘slice of life’ that happens to be about vampires than a coherent driving plot and I think I would like it less if it was all tension and such。 This series works because it’s as aimless as its main character, who similarity lacks direction。 I doubt this juxtaposition was intentional, but it fits the themes perfectly and I can’t ask for more than that。I do wish there was more Nazuna, who, outfit aside, is here to discard large chunks of vampiric mystique as she discovers the joys of capitalism and really, really leans into her beer habit this volume (she’s so easily bought)。4 stars - I love this series, but it is not the sort of thing where I think anybody could read it and have a great time。 It’s great for those who do click with it though。 Even with some eyebrow-raising content, it’s still one of my most anticipated reads when a new book comes out。 。。。more

The story continues to develop past what I was originally expecting。 It is a bit darker and more serious that I thought it would be。 Im digging it so far。 We meet a new detective character in this volume with the potential to really move things into an interesting area。

In this volume, Ko and Nazuna investigate someone taking pornographic pictures at a vampire maid cafe, Ko has an encounter with his former homeroom teacher, a private detective is looking for Aki, and Ko encounters a different kind of vampire。 #CalloftheNightVol4 #NetGalley
