Summary

Sanji & Zeff’s backstory had me so emotional! I love their relationship。 Gin giving Luffy the mask was the cherry on top of my already super emotional sundae。

I'm。。。 still not getting the hype。 These are OK and there have been a couple of great moments so far, but I'm still not completely sold。 I'll continue reading nevertheless。 I'm。。。 still not getting the hype。 These are OK and there have been a couple of great moments so far, but I'm still not completely sold。 I'll continue reading nevertheless。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Gonna give this five stars, and probably next volume as well, just for how damn fun it is (Well, Volume 8 more for making me choke up like a bitch。。。)。 I'll probably try not to be so "generous" with ratings in the future, just in case later arcs are of similar - or higher - quality。The bulk of this volume concerns a fight between Sanji and the Krieg Pirates, while Luffy tries to handle Krieg himself。 As both heroes prepare to fight the baddies, a strange man named Pearl comes aboard the Baratie, Gonna give this five stars, and probably next volume as well, just for how damn fun it is (Well, Volume 8 more for making me choke up like a bitch。。。)。 I'll probably try not to be so "generous" with ratings in the future, just in case later arcs are of similar - or higher - quality。The bulk of this volume concerns a fight between Sanji and the Krieg Pirates, while Luffy tries to handle Krieg himself。 As both heroes prepare to fight the baddies, a strange man named Pearl comes aboard the Baratie, decked out in a bigass shield covering the front and back of his body, as well as smaller bucklers on his arms。 This dude's a huge dork, apparently raised in the jungle, and who has scarcely received any physical damage in his life, accustomed as he was to lighting fires to ward off dangerous beasts。 So, when he gets a nosebleed as a consequence of Don Krieg smacking Luffy into the back of Pearl's head, Pearl freaks out and sets himself on fire (which doesn't hurt him for some reason), while gloating about his defense, and throwing flaming pearls all around the place, catching fire to the Baratie's "Fins" (a large stage raised all around the ship to act as a better battleground for the restaurant's esteemed fighting cooks)。 Meanwhile, Gin decides to be an asshole for a bit, and trains a gun on Zeff, which effectively immobilizes Sanji, who doesn't want to move for fear of getting his mentor/savior shot, thus opening him up to get his ass beat by Pearl。 Gin is eventually "moved" by Sanji and Luffy's conviction, and decides to enter the battle himself, pulling out a pair of tonfa weighted with large iron balls, and smashing Pearl's armor to pieces。 Free to fight now that Zeff isn't in danger, Sanji battles Gin, who beats the shit out of the cook with heavy blows that somehow do not disintegrate Sanji's body despite shattering Pearl's nigh-impenetrable shields。 The whole time, Luffy is trying to approach Krieg, who is standing on a bit of boat a little ways away from the Sanji/Pearl/Gin throwdown, but Krieg keeps shooting smokebombs and spears out of his shield-gun-thing, keeping the Rubber Man at a distance。 There's some "drama" near the end of the volume, when Gin refuses to fight Sanji, and Krieg tries to launch his poison-gas bomb, with Krieg demanding Gin toss away his gasmask and take the attack for punishment, with Gin complying because of his ultimate respect to his captain。 The fallout of Gin's injury is that Luffy gets really angry at Krieg, and the volume ends with Luffy raring to beat the shit out of the so-called "ruler of the East Blue。"As my rating reflects, I really enjoyed this volume, but。。。 honestly, Pearl just looks fucking stupid, and I hope we don't get too many enemies like this later in the manga。 I already know of Hachi and Chew in the Arlong Park Arc, both of whom look dumb as well。 I mean, Alvida and Helmeppo looked corny as well, but we could perhaps excuse them as being gag side-characters; Pearl's fight is long, and the later Fishmen are around for a while as well。 There's a great goofiness Oda incorporates in his manga, which is usually welcome, but sometimes it feels a bit excessive。 By this current point in One Piece, we are less than 10% of the way through the series, so some wonkiness is to be expected。 The question is if it will always be like this。 And。。。 considering I know about Big Mom already。。。。*****Patty: "SAAAAAANJIIIII! You trying to kill your own side!?**Sanji: "。。。。。。。。。Yeah。"*Pearl coming out of nowhere as some wack-ass mid-boss*Sanji: "A kitchen knife is the soul of a cook。 It's not something an amateur like you should ever think about touching。"*Sanji: "Just a cook? I'll kill you scum。。。"*Krieg: "Straw Hat! You'll get hurt if you look away in a fight!!" This kinda made me smirk because of how much time was spent with Sanji and Pearl, without a single glimpse of Krieg and Luffy, as if their fight just froze in time for a moment。。。。*Krieg knocking Luffy into Pearl, making Pearl smash his nose against his shield*Chapter 54's SBS: D: Does Shanks like me?; O: I don't care!*Fire Pearl's Special Treat**Sanji: "Idiot。 How could a chef ever cook if he was afraid of fire?"*Zeff: "I may have lost one leg but this much is nothing I can't handle。"*Sanji: "What's up with this dude?"**Luffy: "Maybe he's mentally ill。。。*Sanji: "I took everything from that damn geezer。 His strength! His dreams! Which is why。。。 I don't want him to lose anything else!"*Chapter 57 and most of 58 as flashback for Sanji and Zeff, freezing the action again so we get more background on Sanji's character, and why he could learn something from Luffy and co。*Sanji: "I want to preserve this restaurant, if even just one second longer。"*Gomu-Gomu no Axe**Luffy: "Hey, I haven't laid a single finger on you guys at all。 All I did was break the Fins。 [。。。] I'll sink this ship!"*Luffy: "So you're planning to die for this restaurant? What're you, stupid? You won't be repaying any debt by dying!! That's not what he saved you for! To throw away your life and die like this after being saved。。。 That's what a weakling does!"*Gin's tonfa shattering Pearl's armor, but later not turning Sanji's ribcage into mush。。。。*Chapter 60 cover, "Formation of the Richie Pirates"*Luffy: "Hm? Nah, it's not as if I could ever be beaten by weaklings like you。"*Krieg's men: "We're the Krieg Pirates, the strongest pirate crew in all of East Blue!"**Luffy: "Weren't you guys just the biggest pirate crew?"*Krieg's fakeout with the announced "poison-gas bomb" actually being a cluster of shuriken**Luffy: "I see。 He got me good。"*Luffy: "Keep talking。 I'll send you flying either way。 I'll come on over there right now, so wash your face and sit tight。" Krieg kept talking about certain end results being inevitable, so the paths taken are irrelevant; Luffy uses similar language to taunt him。*Luffy: "OO-OO-AHH-AHH! Underestimate monkeys and you'll get clawed!"*Gin giving up his mask for Luffy, holding the second mask down on Sanji's face so he can't give it up for someone else*Volume ending with Luffy looking pissed 。。。more

One Piece, Vol。 7 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (54–62) of the on-going manga series。This tankōbon continues the Baratie storyline as Monkey D。 Luffy and the cooks defend the restaurant until Gin takes the one-legged head chef Zeff hostage, hoping to resolve the situation without Sanji's death。 Fearing for Zeff's life, Sanji stops fighting but does not surrender the ship to the pirates。 Gin realizes that he cannot save Sanji's life because he One Piece, Vol。 7 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (54–62) of the on-going manga series。This tankōbon continues the Baratie storyline as Monkey D。 Luffy and the cooks defend the restaurant until Gin takes the one-legged head chef Zeff hostage, hoping to resolve the situation without Sanji's death。 Fearing for Zeff's life, Sanji stops fighting but does not surrender the ship to the pirates。 Gin realizes that he cannot save Sanji's life because he is hell-bent on protecting Zeff's restaurant。 Instead, Gin decides to kill Sanji with his own hands。 When the time comes, he cannot do it and begs Krieg to leave the restaurant alone。 Outraged at Gin's disobedience, Krieg uses poison gas against his right-hand man。This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda。 For the most part, it is written and illustrated rather well。 This tankōbon continues the search of a cook for the Merry Going looking for a cook before heading to start their grand adventure towards the Grand Line。 It mainly centers on Sanji and some of his backstory with a flashback with his relationship with Zeff。All in all, One Piece, Vol。 7 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more。 。。。more
