Summary

It's not the journey that counts, but who's at your side。

Nana is on a road trip, but he is not sure where he is going。 All that matters is that he can sit beside his beloved owner Satoru in the front seat of his silver van。 Satoru is keen to visit three old friends from his youth, though Nana doesn’t know why and Satoru won’t say。

Set against the backdrop of Japan’s changing seasons and narrated with a rare gentleness and humour, Nana’s story explores the wonder and thrill of life’s unexpected detours。 It is about the value of friendship and solitude, and knowing when to give and when to take。 TRAVELLING CAT has already demonstrated its power to move thousands of readers with a message of kindness and truth。 It shows, above all, how acts of love, both great and small, can transform our lives。

4。5 stars。I've never cried so much at a book before。。。 I loved Nana's personality and the relationship between him and Satoru。 I hugged my cats extra close after I finished。 4。5 stars。I've never cried so much at a book before。。。 I loved Nana's personality and the relationship between him and Satoru。 I hugged my cats extra close after I finished。 。。。more

Absolutely stunning, at times quirky but overall heartwarming novel written from the perspective of the cat。 One to read again and again。

A delightful book for cat lovers! The author, Hiro Arikawa, has a great understanding of the feline nature。Told in interspersed sections from a third-person narrator and the perspective of a very wise cat named Nana, this short novel tells the story of the life of Nana's master。 Alternately amusing and devastatingly moving, The Travelling Cat Chronicles is a heart-warming paw-trayal of the bond between pets and their owners。 A delightful book for cat lovers! Such a sweet story of a man and his cat 。 。 。or a cat and his person。 Cat lovers, you will get it。 Not yet a cat lover, this may help you discover why we love them so much。 In addition to the story of a man and a cat, you get a story of friendship and connection through the years。 Just a sweet, heartwarming story。

A rather banal story of a bloke and his adopted street-cat。 Because I love cats, I was taken in by the beautiful cover but what came after was bland。

Some books even after long done, leave a feeling of lump in the throat that never goes。 This is one of those book! I highly recommend this book。

A cute and heartwarming tale about the love between a man and his cat。 My only gripe is with the translation。 Early in the book they get tabby and calico confused, saying that male tabbys are rare when it should be that male calicos are rare。 But later in the book they correctly identify that Noriko's calico kitten must be female (unless they are XXY)。 A cute and heartwarming tale about the love between a man and his cat。 My only gripe is with the translation。 Early in the book they get tabby and calico confused, saying that male tabbys are rare when it should be that male calicos are rare。 But later in the book they correctly identify that Noriko's calico kitten must be female (unless they are XXY)。 。。。more

I am a dog person - not a cat person, but I loved this book。 It is sad - but joyful on so many levels and very visual。 The characters are well developed and believable。 The cat at times narrates。 And I didn't hate this。 Satoru is a lovely man, friend, human being。 I felt good after reading this book。 I am a dog person - not a cat person, but I loved this book。 It is sad - but joyful on so many levels and very visual。 The characters are well developed and believable。 The cat at times narrates。 And I didn't hate this。 Satoru is a lovely man, friend, human being。 I felt good after reading this book。 。。。more

This is the best book I have read in a long time。 I was so engrossed in it。 The characters have depth and are interesting。 I feel that it was well translated at the same time as it kept the Japanese cultural context nicely。 This book shows the love and care in human relationships and the fragility of life。 It is both sad and beautiful。 I don't often give a book 5 stars, but this is one of the few that I feel are life changing。 This is the best book I have read in a long time。 I was so engrossed in it。 The characters have depth and are interesting。 I feel that it was well translated at the same time as it kept the Japanese cultural context nicely。 This book shows the love and care in human relationships and the fragility of life。 It is both sad and beautiful。 I don't often give a book 5 stars, but this is one of the few that I feel are life changing。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book! It was a pretty slow book, even though it's also very short。 There are only a few chapters--and I really don't like long chapters--but it totally worked in this book! The main character and his cat are traveling across Japan trying to find someone who can care for the cat when MC isn't able to anymore。 Each chapter is the MC visiting a different friend to see if it's a good fit for his cat。 We got more background and information on the MC's life and how he grew up wi I really enjoyed this book! If you're looking for a very slow paced book, told primarily from the POV of a cat, and want to get all in your feels about how much you love your pets I'd definitely pick this one up。 。。。more

Always a good challenge to read a book set in a different country and culture but once I got into this I enjoyed it。If you've ever been blessed with a Soul Cat then this book will touch your heart in a special way。 Always a good challenge to read a book set in a different country and culture but once I got into this I enjoyed it。If you've ever been blessed with a Soul Cat then this book will touch your heart in a special way。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I ugly cried reading this book。 This story had a medium pace to it (which is slower than most books I read)。 Between the slower pacing and parts of the book where we get in depth history about Satoru and his friends when they were in school my rating dropped from what would have been a 5 star to a 3。5 star。 I loved that Nana was the narrator and would have been satisfied with the present day interactions。 For example, I found the details of Sugi and Chikako’s relationship to Satoru so boring and I ugly cried reading this book。 This story had a medium pace to it (which is slower than most books I read)。 Between the slower pacing and parts of the book where we get in depth history about Satoru and his friends when they were in school my rating dropped from what would have been a 5 star to a 3。5 star。 I loved that Nana was the narrator and would have been satisfied with the present day interactions。 For example, I found the details of Sugi and Chikako’s relationship to Satoru so boring and annoying。 I don’t care about Sugi’s jealousy and it’s use to move the story along could’ve been done without taking us down memory lane to see how many times and ways he showed his jealousy and insecurity。 All I know is this book made me cry and if got a little long winded in the middle at least it got back to Nana’s perspective fairly quickly。 。。。more

A light yet sharp, intelligent and accurate account of what's the most important in life: friendships, families, our loved ones and the memories we make together while we have the privilege to share our existence on this Earth。。。 Meow。 A light yet sharp, intelligent and accurate account of what's the most important in life: friendships, families, our loved ones and the memories we make together while we have the privilege to share our existence on this Earth。。。 Meow。 。。。more

I was BAWLING by the end。Granted, I am a bona fide cat lover, but this book。。。 it'll take the wind out of any one who carries within them even an iota of affection towards a fellow living being。 Also, the cat's point of view is just so adorable。 The perfect mixture of a cat's pride, naïvety and love。 This book is written wonderfully, and translated very-well too, with the right amount of sadness, joy, hilarity, and wholesomeness。 I'm so glad I picked it up, it's easily one of the most beautiful I was BAWLING by the end。Granted, I am a bona fide cat lover, but this book。。。 it'll take the wind out of any one who carries within them even an iota of affection towards a fellow living being。 Also, the cat's point of view is just so adorable。 The perfect mixture of a cat's pride, naïvety and love。 This book is written wonderfully, and translated very-well too, with the right amount of sadness, joy, hilarity, and wholesomeness。 I'm so glad I picked it up, it's easily one of the most beautiful books I've ever read。 。。。more

I just expected more from this book。 It wasn’t bad but I wasn’t really invested in the story。 I think that the fact that I did not connect at all with the main protagonist was one of the main issues。The story is told from the POV of the cat (Nana) who travels with Satoru (human) and discovers his childhood through encounters with old friends。 I loved the cats voice and the way Nana interacted and reacted to the world! It is exactly how I would imagine a cat would speak and that’s the only reason I just expected more from this book。 It wasn’t bad but I wasn’t really invested in the story。 I think that the fact that I did not connect at all with the main protagonist was one of the main issues。The story is told from the POV of the cat (Nana) who travels with Satoru (human) and discovers his childhood through encounters with old friends。 I loved the cats voice and the way Nana interacted and reacted to the world! The bond between Nana and Satoru was wonderful, and if you have a cat (or any pet), it will definitely make echo and resonate with you! However, because it is told by the cat, it is hard to connect with Satoru and therefore to care about his childhood and his life as it just seems like episodes told by some external narrator without the cat witty comments and comebacks。 This made those “flashback” parts seem disconnected and irrelevant, and although they were conveying an interesting background story, I wasn’t much interested and was waiting to get back to the parts where the cat would narrate the story。 Overall, it is a cute book with a funny and witty cat POV, and I’m sure that if you’re a cat lover (or have a pet), you will find this book quite enjoyable! 。。。more
