Summary

Wuthering Heights is the tale of two families both joined and riven by love and hate。 Cathy is a beautiful and wilful young woman torn between the soft-hearted Edgar, and Heathcliff, the passionate and resentful man who has loved her since childhood。 The power of their bond creates a maelstrom of cruelty and violence which will leave one of them dead and cast a shadow over the lives of their children。 Emily Brontë's novel is a stunningly original and shocking exploration of obsessive passion。

A classic, of course。 A wonderful but odd look into a couple of star crossed lovers, revenge, and consequences。 It takes a little bit of time to get used to the older language but it is definitely worth your time!

Not my cup of tea, but I can appreciate Bronte's portrayal of destructive love and indissoluble passion, as well as her commentary on how elitist principles and pride often prevent social evolution。 Over three generations, we see how each character's ability (or inability) to change directly affects their happiness。 Some souls are stubborn, fixed; some are adaptable and receptive -- and we probably need both types in the world。 Not my cup of tea, but I can appreciate Bronte's portrayal of destructive love and indissoluble passion, as well as her commentary on how elitist principles and pride often prevent social evolution。 Over three generations, we see how each character's ability (or inability) to change directly affects their happiness。 Some souls are stubborn, fixed; some are adaptable and receptive -- and we probably need both types in the world。 。。。more

how do i explain this…this book is good。 genuinely。 it’s intense, dramatic and beautiful。 but… i simply got bored。 as soon as we lost track of catherine (the mother not the daughter。 why do they all have the same name) and her relationship with heathcliff, i just couldn’t focus。so yeah three stars for the first half of this book, then it became a bit tiring。

To love someone like they are the only person in the world and all else doesn't matter。 We read about this in poetry, even see it in movies, but to experience it, you should read this novel。 Personally, i dont understand those kind of love but Emily bronte makes it work using those powerful, infamous phrases such as "If all else perished, and he remains, I should still continue to be; but if all else remained, and he were annihilated, the universe would turn into a mighty stranger"。 I mean , com To love someone like they are the only person in the world and all else doesn't matter。 We read about this in poetry, even see it in movies, but to experience it, you should read this novel。 Personally, i dont understand those kind of love but Emily bronte makes it work using those powerful, infamous phrases such as "If all else perished, and he remains, I should still continue to be; but if all else remained, and he were annihilated, the universe would turn into a mighty stranger"。 I mean , come on。 Oh yeah , and i hate both protagonists。 God, they suck。 。。。more

1。5 stars。 I really really really did not like this, and I really really really do not understand how it became a well-loved classic。 Reading this felt like a chore, and made me so tired。 It was fairly boring, and had none of the elements of a romantic story, which I had been led to believe - especially the way Heathcliff is often referred to as a troubled hero, when he is in fact abusive and disgusting。 The pacing was strange and the characters' actions never felt believable。 All of the charact 1。5 stars。 I really really really did not like this, and I really really really do not understand how it became a well-loved classic。 Reading this felt like a chore, and made me so tired。 It was fairly boring, and had none of the elements of a romantic story, which I had been led to believe - especially the way Heathcliff is often referred to as a troubled hero, when he is in fact abusive and disgusting。 The pacing was strange and the characters' actions never felt believable。 All of the characters were incredibly annoying and awful to each other, and it made the book tedious to read rather than creating an interesting story。 I haven't read much gothic literature, but I've certainly read better than this。 。。。more

I thought I’d connect to this in the same way that I did to Jane Eyre or Jane Austen’s novels, but sadly I really did not like this book。 I do enjoy classics, but this one was not for me。 I hated all the characters, didn’t enjoy the writing style, and found the plot to be both terribly depressing and dull at the same time。 I’m so happy for anyone that loves this book, but I just can’t relate。

Love and how it can turn a person mad, written in a time when religious and moral beliefs and behaviours are so different from now。 When I first read this book I was 11 years old and I was shocked at the cruelty, my parents were open minded and I thought how awful it would be to live in Catherine and Heathcliff's time。 As an adult I have read this novel many times and over the decades it amazes me how one book can make you look at the situation in different ways。 The cruelty, inhumanity and disg Love and how it can turn a person mad, written in a time when religious and moral beliefs and behaviours are so different from now。 When I first read this book I was 11 years old and I was shocked at the cruelty, my parents were open minded and I thought how awful it would be to live in Catherine and Heathcliff's time。 As an adult I have read this novel many times and over the decades it amazes me how one book can make you look at the situation in different ways。 The cruelty, inhumanity and disgusting hate and vengeance which is shows true manipulation。 。。。more

Was Emily Brontë a gifted writer? Absolutely。 But I hated this book。 I would have given it less stars if it was written poorly but I hated the characters so much, it was a race to finish it just I could be done with them foooooreeeeeeverrrrrrrrrr。 Misery, misery I tell you!

No shame in saying Wuthering Heights is probably one of my favourite books of all time。 It is FASCINATING to me that Emily Brontë decided to make the central protagonists two people who are so deeply flawed and honestly, monstrous。 They bring out the worst in each other and destroy the sanity of those around them and yet, it is all driven by desire and a love which is so intense。 This book showcases the reality of obsessive love - none of the BS you see on tumblr and in Y/A books。 This is real, No shame in saying Wuthering Heights is probably one of my favourite books of all time。 It is FASCINATING to me that Emily Brontë decided to make the central protagonists two people who are so deeply flawed and honestly, monstrous。 They bring out the worst in each other and destroy the sanity of those around them and yet, it is all driven by desire and a love which is so intense。 This book showcases the reality of obsessive love - none of the BS you see on tumblr and in Y/A books。 This is real, raw OBSESSION which leads to absolute downfall and agony。 It’s so real and so powerful。 Emily, I think we would’ve been best friends。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This book isn't a normal classic。 It's very dark, the characters very broody, sometimes downright cruel。 It was difficult for me to understand the motivations of most of the characters for the majority of their actions。 Yet, I rate this book 4 stars。Simply because the book was very interesting。 I was fascinated by the characters the author has created, and I've never read anything like this before。 I couldn't stop reading, which hasn't been the case for me generally when it comes to classics。 Re This book isn't a normal classic。 It's very dark, the characters very broody, sometimes downright cruel。 It was difficult for me to understand the motivations of most of the characters for the majority of their actions。 Yet, I rate this book 4 stars。Simply because the book was very interesting。 I was fascinated by the characters the author has created, and I've never read anything like this before。 I couldn't stop reading, which hasn't been the case for me generally when it comes to classics。 Reading about the characters and their actions was like watching another species on discovery channel。None of the characters are necessary likeable。 The narrator is questionable (Cathy 2 never gave me an impression of being an angel)。 I was confused by the ending, it felt like Heathcliff was on drugs near his death。 It genuinely felt like the sole reason for everybody's existence was to make the other family's life as miserable as possible。 I can not relate to this sentiment, that's why I found it very fascinating in a morbid sense。 If you're unsure of what to read next (like I was) and have fallen into a reading slump of sorts, this book will get you right out of it, in my opinion。 Especially if you're into morbid type of stories。 。。。more

。。。more

I thought this book was another love story, and you could argue that it is a toxic love story。 But I think it is amazing how Emily Bronte traces how dysfunction can be passed through a family。 The incredible thing is she never interprets or labels what is happening; instead she helps the reader experience it and leaves them to try to make sense out of the absurdity just like the characters have to。
