For people beginning a remodel of their home or a major space in their home。 Fans of the author will enjoy her design and decorating tips。 Lots of good basic knowledge but nothing earth shattering here。 Very accessible。
Victoria,
I love Jasmine Roth’s HGTV shows especially Hidden Potential。 This book was pretty with lots of color photographs。 She breaks down how to look at overall build/remodel/refresh for house as a whole and by room and function。 My favorite part of her design style is focusing on fun and personalized spaces。 I did learn some new concepts and love that she shared favorite sources and paint colors etc。 I was annoyed that there were quite a few repeats of pics throughout the book。 She has such a huge des I love Jasmine Roth’s HGTV shows especially Hidden Potential。 This book was pretty with lots of color photographs。 She breaks down how to look at overall build/remodel/refresh for house as a whole and by room and function。 My favorite part of her design style is focusing on fun and personalized spaces。 I did learn some new concepts and love that she shared favorite sources and paint colors etc。 I was annoyed that there were quite a few repeats of pics throughout the book。 She has such a huge design library - for this book and similar - give us different inspiration photos。 I never need to see the same one twice! Overall a fun book! 。。。more
Amy,
I have read many, many decorating books over the years。 Most of them have been way too lofty for an average person looking for simple ideas to add to their home。 Not so the case with this one。 This book is conversational, user friendly, and actually has realistic ideas you can implement in your own home。 It is both enjoyable to read and to simply look through。 Jasmine Roth is every woman。 She placed herself along side her reader。 She has constructed her book to be as wonderful as her reconstruct I have read many, many decorating books over the years。 Most of them have been way too lofty for an average person looking for simple ideas to add to their home。 Not so the case with this one。 This book is conversational, user friendly, and actually has realistic ideas you can implement in your own home。 It is both enjoyable to read and to simply look through。 Jasmine Roth is every woman。 She placed herself along side her reader。 She has constructed her book to be as wonderful as her reconstructed homes。 This book is truly a breath of fresh air and very different from most unachievable offerings in the home decor genre。 。。。more

The target audience for this book seems to be anyone interested in increasing the potential of their home, whether that is from doing big renovations or using simple decor and design。 The title comes from Roth's advice about the objective of renovation- to decide how you want your updated home to reflect you, learn the architectural style and choose complimentary add-ons。 The advice Roth gives follows up from her HGTV show Help! I Wrecked My House, where she encourages viewers to call in the professionals for major renovations and helps them out if they've already overcommitted to a project。 Here, she gives checklists to help you communicate your vision to the contractors before starting projects yourself, and also suggests projects the average home owner can realistically tackle。 The book has lots of graphics and sample layouts that aren't just pretty pictures but ideas to produce cohesive looks。 It highlights the 4 basic architectural styles and gives suggestions for everything from the curb appeal to the style toilet and paint colors to achieve a sleek look。 I think House Story is a great resource for everything home renovation, not just about planning to knock down walls, but also in choosing and styling your decor, whether you are incorporating new pieces or repurposing existing ones。 Watch my video review here: https://youtu。be/hKMQv6MCqh4Note: I received a free review copy of this book from the publishers, Penguin Random House 。。。more
