MOOMINLAND MIDWINTER by Tove Jansson （Colour Edition） （Sort Of Books）Book review by Dan FrenchThanks to Sort Of Books， for the first time in the UK， Tove Jansson fans can enjoy a sumptuous， unique colour edition of her classic ‘Moominland Midwinter’， first published in 1957。 It was due to her Italian publisher’s suggestion that in 1961 Tove designed an alternative version of the book for that country’s readers which rapidly became much sought-after by fans including those outside Italy， especial MOOMINLAND MIDWINTER by Tove Jansson （Colour Edition） （Sort Of Books）Book review by Dan FrenchThanks to Sort Of Books， for the first time in the UK， Tove Jansson fans can enjoy a sumptuous， unique colour edition of her classic ‘Moominland Midwinter’， first published in 1957。 It was due to her Italian publisher’s suggestion that in 1961 Tove designed an alternative version of the book for that country’s readers which rapidly became much sought-after by fans including those outside Italy， especially as no other Moomin book had been treated like this。 The new Sort Of deluxe edition revives that vintage look: it offers several full-page colour images， including a different cover design originally painted for Puffin， and a fold-out colour panorama， while retaining the original text and the other line drawings。 This has been made possible by Tove’s great-nephew James Zambra， working from the original artworks stored in the Moomin Museum in Tampere， Finland。This book marks a watershed in Tove’s writing as it reflected her new relationship with Tuulikki Pietilä， who would become her life partner， and the model for the book’s new character Too-Ticky。 Tuulikki （known as ‘Tooti’） also actively helped Tove realise a more mature approach in her children’s writing， enabling a broader and deeper emotional range， as shown in the story through Moomin’s challenges in a strange and frightening winter world for the first time。 Both first-time readers and those already familiar with the story will equally love this gorgeous production， which gives a new lease of life to an already popular tale， no doubt continuing to inspire future generations with its message， both timely and timeless， of comfort and renewal through dark times。 。。。more
