Tynion writes an interesting Batman, and expertly guides the supporting characters through the story。 Every villain and sidekick plays a role and it all fits together succinctly and at a good pace。The art is also absolutely top tier in this book。 Classic characters are exquisitely done and kept fresh throughout。

★★★ 1/2Fresh off of his acclaimed run on Detective Comics and his team-up with Scott Snyder on the latest run on Justice League, James Tynion IV now takes the reigns of DC’s most popular book from Tom King。 It’s a lot to live up to and Tynion does a great job。 He picks up the pieces after tragic events of City of Bane and sees Batman contending with a group of the world’s deadliest assassins making their way to Gotham, and as he investigates, uncovers a conspiracy that threatens not only Batman, ★★★ 1/2Fresh off of his acclaimed run on Detective Comics and his team-up with Scott Snyder on the latest run on Justice League, James Tynion IV now takes the reigns of DC’s most popular book from Tom King。 It’s a lot to live up to and Tynion does a great job。 He picks up the pieces after tragic events of City of Bane and sees Batman contending with a group of the world’s deadliest assassins making their way to Gotham, and as he investigates, uncovers a conspiracy that threatens not only Batman, but the future of Gotham。Yea I know that synopsis sounds like every big Batman story, and it’s true。 It all feels a bit unoriginal, but the story is still very well-written and Tynion has a real grasp of the characters, so I genuinely enjoyed this one。 。。。more

A little inconsistent but overall a pretty solid work。 I expected good standards from James tynion, but the rest of the creative family inspired and supported。

After skipping Tom King's Batman run, I figured I should at least read something modern in terms of Batman。 So I landed on this because of Punchline。 I realize alot of DC fans didnt respond to her well but I did and do。 Its a decent story with a new bad guy that leads into Joker War。 Glad I gave it a try。 After skipping Tom King's Batman run, I figured I should at least read something modern in terms of Batman。 So I landed on this because of Punchline。 I realize alot of DC fans didnt respond to her well but I did and do。 Its a decent story with a new bad guy that leads into Joker War。 Glad I gave it a try。 。。。more

Predictable at times。 But I like Bat/Cat and some of the complexity…even the stuff I can predict。

Tom King may have overstayed his welcome, but I didn't find this to be an improvement。 This is a toy movie, and nowhere near as clever as Tom King and Scott Snyder's runs。And now its being cut short。 Tom King may have overstayed his welcome, but I didn't find this to be an improvement。 This is a toy movie, and nowhere near as clever as Tom King and Scott Snyder's runs。And now its being cut short。 。。。more

What a great firt arc for Tynion's run and interesting build-up to the highly anticipated Joker War。 Classic assassins and classic villains, respectful of their history (some dialogues between Catwoman and the Riddler reminded me, without reference to it, that those 2 went to Rome together)。 On top of that a few new characters that are well thought。 Give me more。 Some people don't like Tynion's Detective Comics, other loves it。 I think this Batman run will not change either group's mind, so you What a great firt arc for Tynion's run and interesting build-up to the highly anticipated Joker War。 Classic assassins and classic villains, respectful of their history (some dialogues between Catwoman and the Riddler reminded me, without reference to it, that those 2 went to Rome together)。 On top of that a few new characters that are well thought。 Give me more。 Some people don't like Tynion's Detective Comics, other loves it。 I think this Batman run will not change either group's mind, so you know what to expect。 。。。more

Decent batman story, though pretty forgettable。 Too many unnecessary characters forced in, and the new characters were bland。 Reused motifs from the Nolan movies felt cheap。 The reveal was fairly predictable。 Art ranges from great to just OK。

I never finished Tom Kings Batman run, i cant seem to find his Fifth and final hardcover of his run, so here i am with a new Batman run from James Tynion IV。 Tynion is on a massive role, he won the Eisner Award for best writer, and all his current titles seem to struck gold。 So my expectations were very high, and if i have to be honest, maby too high。 Dont get me wrong, its a fun run, he jumps straight into a story with alot of action, loads of villains and just like no start up or set up of any I never finished Tom Kings Batman run, i cant seem to find his Fifth and final hardcover of his run, so here i am with a new Batman run from James Tynion IV。 Tynion is on a massive role, he won the Eisner Award for best writer, and all his current titles seem to struck gold。 So my expectations were very high, and if i have to be honest, maby too high。 Dont get me wrong, its a fun run, he jumps straight into a story with alot of action, loads of villains and just like no start up or set up of anything, just action action action。 One of my biggest complains of this run so far is the inconcistency of the artists, they seem to change almost every issue and range from very good to just poorly, i love to have atleast artists who's art is kinda simulair,  but its all over the place。 And the new big villains like Punchline are very poor in my taste。 I just expected better to be honest。 This is not the start King Had with his very different run, or Snyders which started with the classic Court of Owls, this is just kind of basic。 Nothing wrong with that once in a while but nothing special ether。 ⭐⭐⭐ stars。 。。。more

Too long for what is basically all set-up for "Joker War。" Very good art, though there is one bit of inconsistency I noticed, which is probably more of a writing error -- Batman and Deathstroke are fighting what are essentially zombies, cuts away for a few pages, and when it comes back, Deathstroke has been handcuffed, with no dialogue or narration explaining when or how this happened。 Just a bit weird it's never mentioned。 Too long for what is basically all set-up for "Joker War。" Very good art, though there is one bit of inconsistency I noticed, which is probably more of a writing error -- Batman and Deathstroke are fighting what are essentially zombies, cuts away for a few pages, and when it comes back, Deathstroke has been handcuffed, with no dialogue or narration explaining when or how this happened。 Just a bit weird it's never mentioned。 。。。more

Tom King's run is over and now James Tynion have the cowl, I can't say that I loved this first volume but I have to admit that after the first part it becomes entertaining, the art is spectacular and you can see that it is the prelude to something great。。。 I love that the romance between Bruce and Selina is still alive in this new stage, but on the other hand the absence of Alfred is evident and it feels like something is missing, I suppose that at some point they will do something to got Tom King's run is over and now James Tynion have the cowl, I can't say that I loved this first volume but I have to admit that after the first part it becomes entertaining, the art is spectacular and you can see that it is the prelude to something great。。。 I love that the romance between Bruce and Selina is still alive in this new stage, but on the other hand the absence of Alfred is evident and it feels like something is missing, I suppose that at some point they will do something to got him back or something because a Batman without Alfred is honestly not so cool 。。。 Gotham's most iconic villains are scared, something they planned in the past resonates in the present, and for the thousandth time there is a master plan that will reduce the city to ashes if the Bat is not fast and skilled enough 。。。 One of the highlights of this volume is the appearance of Punchline, the character itself doesn't seem like a big deal to me, but the context in which they put her and her confrontation with Harley is something to see 。。。 A fight between the ex and the current girlfriend of a psychopath is always something interesting 。。。 The above is the most remarkable, the problem with this book is that I feel it extremely repetitive, I feel that unlike what King did with Batman, what we see in this book is something that has already been seen several times 。。。 。。。more

This was really good。 (view spoiler)[ Essentially the plot features Bruce Wayne attempting to rebuild a new Gotham after the death of Bane。 However, something is working to upend his designs。 This something is the Designer, an old-school supervillain who specializes in thinking several steps ahead of his opponent。 In the early days, the Designer had summoned Catwoman, the Penguin, the Riddler and the Joker to a secret meeting where he offered each of them the chance to plan their ultimate caper。 This was really good。 (view spoiler)[ Essentially the plot features Bruce Wayne attempting to rebuild a new Gotham after the death of Bane。 However, something is working to upend his designs。 This something is the Designer, an old-school supervillain who specializes in thinking several steps ahead of his opponent。 In the early days, the Designer had summoned Catwoman, the Penguin, the Riddler and the Joker to a secret meeting where he offered each of them the chance to plan their ultimate caper。 And now, those plans are being acted on。 However, there's something more sinister in the background as the Joker prepares for war。 (hide spoiler)]As I said, I really enjoyed this。 The story is engaging and easy to follow。 The art is good, often excellent。 The only downside is that while labeled as "Volume 1", it is a continuation of the Rebirth Batman line (which I think ran for about 12 volumes)。 As such, it references events of those stories such as Bane's takeover of Gotham and Catwoman and Batman's marraige。 That said, this is still one of the most accessible superhero Volume 1's I've read in a while。 I usually find, with Marvel especially, picking up a "Volume 1" just leaves you horribly confused。 So, if you like Batman and want a good jumping-on point for newer comics, this definitely fits the bill。 。。。more

I kept thinking while I was reading this, how high Tynion-s IQ must be to write a story like this。 This is a wonderfully complex Batman tale, yet easy to follow despite that you won't understand what's going on for quite a while。 But that's exactly the point, this is a great mystery that truly requires Batman's detective skills and his technological adventage。 What I like the most is that the writer focused on the core of the characters: The Penguin is a mobster hungry for power, the Riddler is I kept thinking while I was reading this, how high Tynion-s IQ must be to write a story like this。 This is a wonderfully complex Batman tale, yet easy to follow despite that you won't understand what's going on for quite a while。 But that's exactly the point, this is a great mystery that truly requires Batman's detective skills and his technological adventage。 What I like the most is that the writer focused on the core of the characters: The Penguin is a mobster hungry for power, the Riddler is obsessed with puzzles and games, Catwoman still thinks as a thief despite she's Batman's wife now, and the Joker is still a crazy motherfucker who does everything just for the fun of it。 Tynion took everything back to the roots and I think the series really needed that after King's controversial run。 Brilliant story, it deserves all the 5 stars, and I can't wait to see what's coming next! 。。。more
