Strange

I absolutely loved this book! It was very good writing and I loved the character development

Marcus

I love Max Brooks and was eager to read this with my eight year old son, but both of us found it a bit underwhelming and the Navy seal style survival tips felt a bit forced。

Ellis

Its an amazing book。 I loved it when my mum bought it for me as a Christmas present。

Seth Manwell

Really fun book。

This is a tricky book to review。。。 Because it sucked。 And yet, my children to whom I read it, loved it (they pretty much love anything Minecraft though, to be fair)。The amount of effort Brooks put into this was pretty much zero。 And that's what really sinks this。 Minecraft has a lot of lore and a lot of potential for good stories, and Brooks didn't bother with any of it。 Honestly, this book is so flat it's borderline offensive。。。 to an adult anyway。The kids loved the blow by blow descriptions of This is a tricky book to review。。。 Because it sucked。 And yet, my children to whom I read it, loved it (they pretty much love anything Minecraft though, to be fair)。The amount of effort Brooks put into this was pretty much zero。 And that's what really sinks this。 Minecraft has a lot of lore and a lot of potential for good stories, and Brooks didn't bother with any of it。 Honestly, this book is so flat it's borderline offensive。。。 to an adult anyway。The kids loved the blow by blow descriptions of the stuff they do when they play。 And there's nothing else to this but that。 Seriously, watch a kid play。 Describe what the do outloud and in english, viola, you're a novelist (evidently)。They want the next book in the series。 In the words of Moo: "Moooooo!" 。。。more

Action, adventure, and video games! What more could you want from a book? I love the ever expansive sandbox world of Minecraft, and to have such a talented writer take on the challenge of dropping a character in that world to survive on the pages of a book is the epitome of enthralling。 A must read for anyone who loves to read and play Minecraft。

Specifically listened to the audiobook narrated by Jack Black。 Did not finish because it's definitely a kids book, which I knew going in。It was moderately enjoyable despite not being the target audience。 Jack Black did a fantastic job voicing the character, and the inclusion of Minecraft sound effects throughout the audio was amusing。 The character's perspective is that of a real person who has somehow found themselves in the world of Minecraft, and the horror and frustration of that change is w Specifically listened to the audiobook narrated by Jack Black。 Did not finish because it's definitely a kids book, which I knew going in。It was moderately enjoyable despite not being the target audience。 Jack Black did a fantastic job voicing the character, and the inclusion of Minecraft sound effects throughout the audio was amusing。 The character's perspective is that of a real person who has somehow found themselves in the world of Minecraft, and the horror and frustration of that change is well demonstrated in a kid friendly way。Heavy on the life lessons but again, kid's book, that's to be expected。 The lessons themselves seemed good though, and teaching them through the lens of Minecraft feels like a good approach。 。。。more

Fun book to listen to with the kids but it could have used more story and character development。 My ten year t lost interest by the end。

It was okay, I suppose。 The way the chapters were named, the way the main character spoke and thought, and the way every chapter had a moral made it feel more like "Life Lessons with Max Brooks" than a Minecraft book。 That being said, it wasn't a terrible story。 And Mojang approved of this, so it must be alright。 It was okay, I suppose。 The way the chapters were named, the way the main character spoke and thought, and the way every chapter had a moral made it feel more like "Life Lessons with Max Brooks" than a Minecraft book。 That being said, it wasn't a terrible story。 And Mojang approved of this, so it must be alright。 。。。more

This was recommended to me by a 12 year old boy and I can see why。 Also I still don't really see the point of Minecraft but if you enjoy it, enjoy it。 This was recommended to me by a 12 year old boy and I can see why。 Also I still don't really see the point of Minecraft but if you enjoy it, enjoy it。 。。。more

Me and my eight-year-old have taken four of the Minecraft novels out of the library and read or tried to read them, aloud。 The End, by Cathrynne Valente, was awesome。 The Rise of the Arch-Illager was meh, but we got through it。 The Island and The Voyage got both reader and hearer bogged down and bored very quickly, and we finished neither。 The Island, in particular, faces some narrative challenges, as a one-character first-person monologue from a simultaneously self-absorbed and self-conscious n Me and my eight-year-old have taken four of the Minecraft novels out of the library and read or tried to read them, aloud。 The End, by Cathrynne Valente, was awesome。 The Rise of the Arch-Illager was meh, but we got through it。 The Island and The Voyage got both reader and hearer bogged down and bored very quickly, and we finished neither。 The Island, in particular, faces some narrative challenges, as a one-character first-person monologue from a simultaneously self-absorbed and self-conscious narrator。 BUT! We then got the audiobook of The Island, read by Jack Black。 I'm only a very occasional fan of the man's filmic stylings, but he truly transformed that book from a stultifying and tedious read to a highly engaging and dramatic listen that J。 has so far gotten through about five times。 It makes you excited to play Minecraft。 I take a backseat to none in my confidence in my ability to read aloud engagingly but I really do need to FEEL engaged by the text。 I'm kind of amazed to see that anyone could take an insanely boring (to me) text and turn it into a fun and engaging (to me) listen, just by virtue of their effective narration! It really makes me admire Jack Black! 。。。more

This book surprised me in a very good way! I honestly got this book just in case of possible lore stuff (Thanks MattPat) and now I'm walking away having loved the story and already impatiently waiting to have the second one in my hands。 I highly recommend this book!! one of the best books related to Minecraft that I've ever read (well, not really 'read' but I did listen to the audiobook version)if I could go back in time to listen to this again, I most likely would。 one of the best books related to Minecraft that I've ever read (well, not really 'read' but I did listen to the audiobook version)if I could go back in time to listen to this again, I most likely would。 。。。more

Super cool cover art, obviously。 Inside, it starts out kind of humorous。 I thought so at least, and so did my family。 In the middle, I thought it became boring and didn't it really go anywhere for a while。 It's pretty much just a guy figuring out how to play Minecraft for the first time, with the twist being he's inside。 He is a physical Minecraft character now, and he does not have many memories of his old life and world。 It makes things a little more interesting and raises the stakes, especial Super cool cover art, obviously。 Inside, it starts out kind of humorous。 I thought so at least, and so did my family。 In the middle, I thought it became boring and didn't it really go anywhere for a while。 It's pretty much just a guy figuring out how to play Minecraft for the first time, with the twist being he's inside。 He is a physical Minecraft character now, and he does not have many memories of his old life and world。 It makes things a little more interesting and raises the stakes, especially since his only friends are the animals on the island。 (He also has to form a way of life a whole bunch of personal philosophies, some of which are good and some of which are kind of goofy。) Otherwise, there's not a lot of new information if you've seen a decent amount of Minecraft stuff already。 It got a little more exciting and interesting near the end though。My family, especially my son, really liked me reading the book。 He enjoyed the story all the way through。 。。。more

I read the voyage and the voyage is actually a great book because it shows the adventures in a block game but is very realistic fiction。
