Summary

Announcing that rare parenting book that will not only help you become a more effective parent but actually change how you see your children。 Written by Montessori educator Simone Davies, this book shows you how to bring the educational values of a Montessori classroom into your home—while turning the whole idea of the “terrible twos” on its head。

Here is how to set up Montessori-friendly spaces in your home。 Principles for fostering curiosity in your child—and in yourself。 Specific Montessori skills—the winter coat flip; getting your toddler to pour his or her own water and clean up whatever spills might occur。 And it goes much deeper, showing how a parent can really be present, be the child’s guide, and handle tantrums and problematic behavior without resorting to bribes, threats, or punishment and truly celebrate every stage。

It’s also that rare parenting book that’s beautiful to look at, with a bright, airy design and simple color illustrations and photographs。

Like with most parenting books, there were things I agreed with and things I disagreed with in this one。 I was interested to see that a lot of the techniques I use/plan to use are Montessori, which I didn't realize。 A lot of things Montessori seemed a little extreme and slightly overwhelming to me, but I will pick and choose what I liked, or adapt it to fit my family。 So overall it was a good book。 Like with most parenting books, there were things I agreed with and things I disagreed with in this one。 I was interested to see that a lot of the techniques I use/plan to use are Montessori, which I didn't realize。 A lot of things Montessori seemed a little extreme and slightly overwhelming to me, but I will pick and choose what I liked, or adapt it to fit my family。 So overall it was a good book。 。。。more

I liked this。 I picked it up to get a better sense of what I was signing my daughter up for (and what I had grown up with myself) and ways I could reinforce the same kinds of teachings at home。 Simone offers some great tips, photos even on households and their layouts, but overall, gives me a better sense of how to engage my toddler to be less of a burden on me doing the tasks myself and more of a helpful contributor。

This was enlightening! Since reading this book, my husband and I have already adapted small things to help our 1。5 year old become more independent。

My fav thing abt this book is how it demonstrated to me how my wife is a Montessori expert and has been doing a lot of this for years—I love her! I should listen to it again because it has a ton of practical advice for thoughtfully managing learning, regardless of age

Man patika šī grāmata - gan saturiski, gan vizuāli viegli uztverama, mierpilna un strukturēta。Noteikti centīšos kaut ko ieviest mājas dzīvē un pārdomāt savu uzvedību, runas un izturēšanās manieri pret saviem un arī citiem bērniem。

While Maria Montessori's book explains more about the principles, this book is more about how to apply those principles。 It's a practical guide for parents of toddlers on everyday topics, like how to set up a bathroom to allow your toddler to practice self-care。 Highly recommended for parents。 While Maria Montessori's book explains more about the principles, this book is more about how to apply those principles。 It's a practical guide for parents of toddlers on everyday topics, like how to set up a bathroom to allow your toddler to practice self-care。 Highly recommended for parents。 。。。more

I would definitely purchase this book and use it as a reference。 Not only does it outline the simple ways to upgrade your home to create an ideal environment for your child, but it gives advice on how to deal with conflict with toddlers/partners/family etc。 it’s a mix of Dr。 Gottman and Pinterest。 I love the idea of a Montessori education (not sure I could afford it) as I hear more often that students in kindergarten are learning what I learned in first grade (25+ years ago)。。。 I was definitely I would definitely purchase this book and use it as a reference。 Not only does it outline the simple ways to upgrade your home to create an ideal environment for your child, but it gives advice on how to deal with conflict with toddlers/partners/family etc。 it’s a mix of Dr。 Gottman and Pinterest。 I love the idea of a Montessori education (not sure I could afford it) as I hear more often that students in kindergarten are learning what I learned in first grade (25+ years ago)。。。 I was definitely still taking naps in kindergarten, not writing full paragraphs! AMAZING content。 This is one of my books I keep on my nightstand to reference back to。 I'm not a parent, but a professional nanny。 I love my work, its very fulfilling and I'm hoping to one day open my own small scale Preschool from home。 AMAZING content。 This is one of my books I keep on my nightstand to reference back to。 I'm not a parent, but a professional nanny。 I love my work, its very fulfilling and I'm hoping to one day open my own small scale Preschool from home。 。。。more

I really liked 99% of this book and am giving it 5 stars despite some very minor qualms, because it's inspired me to do a lot of things differently, given me ideas about how to set up my child's playroom, and reinforced things I've already believed (because of other books I've read, and because I went to Montessori school too!)。 The photographs and lay out are beautiful and the activity ideas concrete and useful, especially as they are grouped by age。 It also makes some plain sense about how chi I really liked 99% of this book and am giving it 5 stars despite some very minor qualms, because it's inspired me to do a lot of things differently, given me ideas about how to set up my child's playroom, and reinforced things I've already believed (because of other books I've read, and because I went to Montessori school too!)。 The photographs and lay out are beautiful and the activity ideas concrete and useful, especially as they are grouped by age。 It also makes some plain sense about how children see the world and how they can reason at this age, and how it can help both parents and child to see the world from the child's point of view。I especially think it's important - and this has borne out from my experience with the bubba - that toddlers feel useful and feel like they are a part of the family。 I also like the idea of cycles of action for activities including putting toys away, keeping activities simple and organised (Montessori is the Marie Kondo of toddler parenting!) while still allowing children freedom to choose and explore, focusing on the real world rather than fantasy before age 6, mastery of tasks, following the child's rather than the adult's interest, "SHOW" techniques, appreciating slowness and boredom, and advice on the use of language。My only *slight* qualm are the quotes from Alfie Kohn, who the gentle parenting world falls all over themselves for, but who has been shown to cherry pick research and other researchers have questioned for his tendency to skew the science to create a narrative to sell books。 I don't disagree with him on everything and a lot of what he says is good/true (and a lot of it is echoed in this book)。 I've read *SO MUCH* on the pro and against side from a variety of researchers and scientists, and I have a mix of views now。 However, it annoys me when books quote him as gospel。 He's not a scientist and he has a certain non-objective point of view to push。 That aside, this is a beautiful useful book, and I highly recommend it to any parent of toddlers。 。。。more

This book does a good job explaining Montessori theories and gives great examples of how to carry them out in your home。 Definitely a great resource for Montessori but also includes subjective view points (don’t they all?) that I don’t know i fully agree with and could have done without。

Learning Centered on Parents and ToddlersThe more that I read on these different parenting methods, the more that I start to feel less unease on trying new practices and activities with my baby。 I find myself challenged at being so sure my daughter isn't ready for something and then being proven wrong。 I am really thankful for how these books show me how to better allow for my kid's independence and growth。 Learning Centered on Parents and ToddlersThe more that I read on these different parenting methods, the more that I start to feel less unease on trying new practices and activities with my baby。 I find myself challenged at being so sure my daughter isn't ready for something and then being proven wrong。 I am really thankful for how these books show me how to better allow for my kid's independence and growth。 。。。more

I was quite sceptical at first, but it turned out to be way way more useful and inspiring than I'd thought after the first 2-3 chapters。 Obviously there are points that I disagree with and I don't think I'll follow every single piece of advice this book gives (like, why should I force my child to eat snacks only at the table? That's the point of the snacks that they're mobile and you can eat them anywhere, I do it myself all the time!), but overall it was a great read, with many practical tips, I was quite sceptical at first, but it turned out to be way way more useful and inspiring than I'd thought after the first 2-3 chapters。 Obviously there are points that I disagree with and I don't think I'll follow every single piece of advice this book gives (like, why should I force my child to eat snacks only at the table? Overall, some very helpful concepts when it comes to interacting with and helping guide a toddler。 Things like taking it slow, not interrupting or distracting, and letting the child lead when possible are practices I’d like to employ。 Lots of great activity ideas and suggestions for dealing with things like sharing, bathroom training, limit/boundary testing, hitting, etc。 Some of the content sounded very idealistic, but reading this book did help me learn more about the Montessori approach。 As a Overall, some very helpful concepts when it comes to interacting with and helping guide a toddler。 Things like taking it slow, not interrupting or distracting, and letting the child lead when possible are practices I’d like to employ。 Lots of great activity ideas and suggestions for dealing with things like sharing, bathroom training, limit/boundary testing, hitting, etc。 Some of the content sounded very idealistic, but reading this book did help me learn more about the Montessori approach。 As a parent who is home with my child every day, I found it hard to imagine being able to do a lot of these things if I had to get my child off to preschool or daycare。 But! Lots of people make it work who have less flexible schedules。 Definitely still interested in Montessori schooling for our child, but thinking our home environment will be more “Montessori-light。” (aka I’m not going to dictate to my family that they can only gift him wooden toys, we’re going to continue watching sesame street, and I’m still going to read him books that feature talking animals, even though they’re not based in reality)。3。5 stars and waffling between 3 and 4 for the rating because there was a lot of repetition from chapter to chapter (maybe that was to reinforce the ideas, but it felt unnecessary in many places), and there was a whole chapter that was essentially a pared down version of “how to talk so kids will listen,” (great information, but it felt like it should have just been recommended reading since she went through so many of the same concepts and practices)。 Like, she sourced the book, but it felt almost copied from the original。 。。。more

I have been astounded by my toddler's natural competence at so much that I would not have expected。 This is a nice resource for encouraging that natural competence to develop。 Some of the philosophy is a little too hippie-ish for me, but I'm glad I read the book。 I've already started implementing some of the organization and environment preparation, and I plan on doing more of that。 I have been astounded by my toddler's natural competence at so much that I would not have expected。 This is a nice resource for encouraging that natural competence to develop。 Some of the philosophy is a little too hippie-ish for me, but I'm glad I read the book。 I've already started implementing some of the organization and environment preparation, and I plan on doing more of that。 。。。more

Seems kind of a bit repetitive at some points, but it's better to understand the ideas by these repetitions。 Suggested for everyone if they have a child and otherwise it may still help supporting communication techniques and relations。 Seems kind of a bit repetitive at some points, but it's better to understand the ideas by these repetitions。 Suggested for everyone if they have a child and otherwise it may still help supporting communication techniques and relations。 。。。more

This is a very thorough and practical book。 I did initially feel like there was no way my home (personally) would be set up in the exact Montessori way or be as picture-perfect as so many are。 While I still feel that way having finished the book, there are many excellent takeaways and practical suggestions to include now (with a 1 year old & 3。5 year old) and in the future。 I wish I had read this when my first was a bit younger!
