This book is well organized, allowing readers to quickly jump to relevant sections for their own reflection or as a reference when working with others。 Highly recommend assessing your strengths prior to reading。

Nice review when looking for new ways to engage the folks I supervise。 It’s been a while since I’ve dug into strengths finder exercises and this allowed me to think differently about some of our routing meetings / office practices。
Hannah,
Helpful refresher + reminder that we all grow faster from affirming strengths vs minimizing weaknesses
Reinhard Gaul,
I do like the Clifton Strengths ideas and way of looking at leadership traits… this particular book from them wasn’t the best tho。 The presentation and writing just didn’t do it for me。 “Yadayada… this one CEO did this one thing one time… yadayada… be yourself… yadayada… buy our personality test… yadayada”
Amy,
very enlightening。
Megan,
I was hoping that this book would explain more about the Strengths Finder theory and the research that went into it。 Apparently, this book is the second book in the series, and the first book does explain the theory。 I thought the stories about the four leaders were interesting, but I wanted more detail and explanation for how they used their particular strengths to be better leaders。

I really liked it and recommend it for everyone at all levels。Prior to reading many books and with due to my many other personal responsibilities,I couldn't get enough time to really write a personalized review, but this is really a good book you have to read。 I really liked it and recommend it for everyone at all levels。Prior to reading many books and with due to my many other personal responsibilities,I couldn't get enough time to really write a personalized review, but this is really a good book you have to read。 。。。more

I took the strengths finder test (for my top 5 themes) for a volunteer leadership position。 I found the results themselves enlightening and confidence boosting。 Then, I realized I had this book sitting on a shelf and decided to read it。 It was a quick read with takeaways that made it worthwhile。
Hannah Graham,
I was given this book (along with the code to take the accompanying strengths test) when I started working for the public library。 I really enjoyed taking and seeing the results of the test, reflecting on how my strengths manifest in my life and work。 I think it is a valuable tool for team building and can be used to determine who you may delegate certain responsibilities to from a management position。 That being said, the content of the book (while valuable) probably could have been condensed i I was given this book (along with the code to take the accompanying strengths test) when I started working for the public library。 I really enjoyed taking and seeing the results of the test, reflecting on how my strengths manifest in my life and work。 I think it is a valuable tool for team building and can be used to determine who you may delegate certain responsibilities to from a management position。 That being said, the content of the book (while valuable) probably could have been condensed into a PowerPoint presentation rather than spread out into a whole book。 Definitely learned from it, but at the end of the day I learned much more from taking the test than I did from reading the book。 。。。more

Tom Rath and anything that has something to do with Strengths-Based Gallup anything hasn't disappointed me yet。 It's clear and incredibly concise。 It also took examples and attitudes of what you currently see in the corporate world and fashioned leading-with and leading-those around said examples。 It's a must-read especially if you've already taken the 34-Strong test。 Tom Rath and anything that has something to do with Strengths-Based Gallup anything hasn't disappointed me yet。 It's clear and incredibly concise。 It also took examples and attitudes of what you currently see in the corporate world and fashioned leading-with and leading-those around said examples。 It's a must-read especially if you've already taken the 34-Strong test。 。。。more

I had to read this book for a training course that I am involved in currently。 However, there is an assessment that you get access to find your top Strengths, then the book talked about each of the 4 domains of top Strengths。 So it was interesting to take the assessment then read the book and learn more about your strengths and other strengths that others can possess。

So this book was interesting an book, but it really didn’t go into all that much detail。 The most important part was taking the test and then reading the different strengths。 If I had done this with my whole team at work it would have given me a ton of insight into my colleagues but since this was for a class, I only found out about myself。 It was still really interesting and did make me wish my whole team had done it, but I don’t see everyone paying $40 for the test。 It would be a great discuss So this book was interesting an book, but it really didn’t go into all that much detail。 The most important part was taking the test and then reading the different strengths。 If I had done this with my whole team at work it would have given me a ton of insight into my colleagues but since this was for a class, I only found out about myself。 It was still really interesting and did make me wish my whole team had done it, but I don’t see everyone paying $40 for the test。 It would be a great discussion starter though and could really be useful for teams that want to find ways to better work together。 。。。more

Of all the “personality” tests I’ve taken, I had the most disagreements on aspects of this one; however, in discussions with my team and reviewing the book, I found some merit in a few of my attributes。 The first half of the book was very insightful and where I’ll pull the majority of my lessons。

So many people have left negative reviews for this book, which leaves me a bit dumbfounded! While I did not find this book groundbreaking, I certainly found it useful。 The book's structure might be a bit non-traditional for a leadership text so I am wondering if that is it。 Before I say anything further, I should add that unless you have already taken (and paid for) the StrengthsFinder Test online, you must purchase a physical copy of this book。 Otherwise, this book won't be so helpful。 It assum So many people have left negative reviews for this book, which leaves me a bit dumbfounded! Read this for a law school class。 Bound to become a favorite of mine。 This bucks the idea that leaders need to be “well-rounded” or good at everything all the time。 Instead, this book (and the Strengths test you can take in conjunction with it) advocate for playing to your strengths as a leader。 I plan on coming back to this again and again to remind myself what I am good at and how to maximize my and others’ strengths。
