Summary

When you're small, waiting for anything can seem to take a lifetime, especially when it's a baby! There is so much to sort out for the new arrival - clothes, toys and a place to sleep。 A new addition to any family is exciting, but the experience can also be worrying and confusing for siblings。 Coping with the new situations and emotions that arise can be very challenging。 This series of four board books deals with the anticipation of waiting for the new baby, the excitement of the arrival itself, and the beginnings of the special relationship that develops between siblings。 The simple conversational text and lively illustrations are carefully designed to encourage further dialogue between reader and child。

Simple questions and observations from a little one about the new baby that's coming。 I like that the parents in the book involve the older sibling in the preparations for baby to come home。 Activities like taking out the first sibling's baby clothes, shopping for baby, and the ultrasound。 Simple questions and observations from a little one about the new baby that's coming。 I like that the parents in the book involve the older sibling in the preparations for baby to come home。 Activities like taking out the first sibling's baby clothes, shopping for baby, and the ultrasound。 。。。more

Full of questions a soon-to-be older sibling may have about their soon-to-arrive cohort。 :)

I enjoyed reading this to my two-year-old in preparation for having a new sibling。 It may not be interesting to an older child。 There's very little text on each page allowing you to fill in the gaps。 I enjoyed reading this to my two-year-old in preparation for having a new sibling。 It may not be interesting to an older child。 There's very little text on each page allowing you to fill in the gaps。 。。。more

This was a great book to help introduce the idea of a new sibling coming to our toddler。 I especially loved that it's a mixed family in the illustrations, like us! The bilingual version of this board book features English and Spanish, providing reassurance for any child worried about the coming changes in its life。 Instead of worries about the new baby, the child may feel excited in anticipating the arrival of a new brother or sister。 I liked how the child poses basic questions about how large the baby is, what the doctor is doing when his mother goes for a checkup, possible color preferences, and how he helps by painting the walls of the nursery。 Because The bilingual version of this board book features English and Spanish, providing reassurance for any child worried about the coming changes in its life。 Instead of worries about the new baby, the child may feel excited in anticipating the arrival of a new brother or sister。 I liked how the child poses basic questions about how large the baby is, what the doctor is doing when his mother goes for a checkup, possible color preferences, and how he helps by painting the walls of the nursery。 Because everything is shared with the child, by the time the baby arrives, there is very little jealousy or confusion, and the big brother feels okay with this strange new experience。 。。。more

"Waiting for Baby" is pretty sentimental and cheesy。 We read this book to our daughter leading up to the birth of our son。 Our daughter still pulls this off the shelf to read every once inawhile。 The plot involves a big sister getting ready for the arrival of her new baby brother and wondering what changes will be coming upon the family。 "Waiting for Baby" is pretty sentimental and cheesy。 We read this book to our daughter leading up to the birth of our son。 Our daughter still pulls this off the shelf to read every once inawhile。 The plot involves a big sister getting ready for the arrival of her new baby brother and wondering what changes will be coming upon the family。 。。。more

I agree with other reviews that the text is a little awkward, but I think you can easily ignore the text and use the pictures to have a conversation with your child。 My favorite part of this book is the scene where the pregnant mom is napping on the couch, so the child helps dad to make dinner!

A gentle introduction to the topic of a new sibling appropriate for toddlers and preschoolers。

The pictures were fine but I was puzzled by the text。 It seems like it's there to spark discussion between mom and child, but it was awkwardly done。 "Will the baby be a boy or girl?" Is the mom then supposed to turn to her child and say, "Is/do you think our baby is a boy or girl?" I dunno。 I think it has value but if you're looking for a narrative about having a new baby, this is not it。 The pictures were fine but I was puzzled by the text。 It seems like it's there to spark discussion between mom and child, but it was awkwardly done。 "Will the baby be a boy or girl?" This book helps calm pondering children about the new addition to the family。 It is a great book for ages 2-7 。 It would be great to have in the reading center for younger children who are going through the excitement if a new baby。

I thought the book was fun but I really didn't like the text。 It was awkward and did not stimulate conversation。 It asked questions that the little boy would be asking his mommy, but that had no way of being answered from the pictures: "Will it be a boy or a girl?" "Will it have my hair?" So, I just ignored the text and opened the discussion with my child。 I was surprised that my son, with no relevant activities between his life and the book's subject, enjoyed the book as much as he did。 However I thought the book was fun but I really didn't like the text。 It was awkward and did not stimulate conversation。 It asked questions that the little boy would be asking his mommy, but that had no way of being answered from the pictures: "Will it be a boy or a girl?"
