Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - The instant classic about why some ideas thrive, why others die, and how to improve your idea's chances--essential reading in the "fake news" era。

Mark Twain once observed, "A lie can get halfway around the world before the truth can even get its boots on。" His observation rings true: Urban legends, conspiracy theories, and bogus news stories circulate effortlessly。 Meanwhile, people with important ideas--entrepreneurs, teachers, politicians, and journalists--struggle to make them "stick。"

In Made to Stick, Chip and Dan Heath reveal the anatomy of ideas that stick and explain ways to make ideas stickier, such as applying the human scale principle, using the Velcro Theory of Memory, and creating curiosity gaps。 Along the way, we discover that sticky messages of all kinds--from the infamous "kidney theft ring" hoax to a coach's lessons on sportsmanship to a vision for a new product at Sony--draw their power from the same six traits。

Made to Stick will transform the way you communicate。 It's a fast-paced tour of success stories (and failures): the Nobel Prize-winning scientist who drank a glass of bacteria to prove a point about stomach ulcers; the charities who make use of the Mother Teresa Effect; the elementary-school teacher whose simulation actually prevented racial prejudice。

Provocative, eye-opening, and often surprisingly funny, Made to Stick shows us the vital principles of winning ideas--and tells us how we can apply these rules to making our own messages stick。

Great book。 I learned that there isn’t a magic formula for making ideas stick, but there are reference points that help you craft the most effective version of your idea。Finding the core of your message and crafting a story to convey its key pieces is always effective。 It also helps to be observant and see a powerful story when it’s staring you in the face。 Even if you didn’t create it。

Solid book! I can however understand why the overall score is hovering just below 4。00。 The commentary and illustrations had a couple of dry spots that require some pushing through。 On the other hand, the amount of pure gold nuggets sprinkled throughout this work make it an easy five stars for me。 If you are at all interested in crafting stories that stick, marketing, advertising, or just being able to communicate more effectively, this book has a great deal to offer。

I take enjoyed this book as it presented ways to make ideas stick。 I've tried some of these techniques at work already and think they've got the possibility to help me better present ideas to my group and leadership。 I will say that trying to apply these concepts to presenting every idea is not practical because it does take effort but for the bigger ideas, it's probably worth the effort。 I take enjoyed this book as it presented ways to make ideas stick。 I've tried some of these techniques at work already and think they've got the possibility to help me better present ideas to my group and leadership。 I will say that trying to apply these concepts to presenting every idea is not practical because it does take effort but for the bigger ideas, it's probably worth the effort。 。。。more

This book didn't do a very good job holding my attention。 It presented a pretty basic idea: Ideas that stick are more up to the presentation than the idea itself。 This book didn't do a very good job holding my attention。 It presented a pretty basic idea: Ideas that stick are more up to the presentation than the idea itself。 。。。more

This book came at an opportune time, right when I’m trying to find captivating ideas。I used to just blindly to headfirst into marketing, looking for interesting facts and info to share with people…But I know better now! Highly recommend for basically anyone struggling to get their point across, looking to influence others, or just market out of their minds。

Some great advice on how to make your message memorable, whether it is an email or a speech or a marketing campaign。 An acquaintance based a speaker’s workshop on this book and I can see why。 Very useful。 Would be great for teens or older kids on how to make your persuasive writing more effective。

This book provides good advice, but feels older than it is。 Quite possibly because many of the examples haven't aged well。 (Lance Armstrong as the epitome of good sportsmanship; Jared from Subway; palm pilots。。。) I wouldn't have made a connection between this book and Gladwell's writings。 I prefer Malcolm Gladwell for the reading experience, but this book was made to be more actionable, which it is。 One recurring problem I have with these types of books is that the framework is subjective enough This book provides good advice, but feels older than it is。 Quite possibly because many of the examples haven't aged well。 (Lance Armstrong as the epitome of good sportsmanship; Jared from Subway; palm pilots。。。) I wouldn't have made a connection between this book and Gladwell's writings。 I prefer Malcolm Gladwell for the reading experience, but this book was made to be more actionable, which it is。 One recurring problem I have with these types of books is that the framework is subjective enough so that virtually anything successful can be made to fit the format。 There were some examples it gave where I felt that was the case。 "It may not do X, but it doubles down on Y!" It's good advice, but it's always overly simplistic to believe every good idea that has stuck is due to a formula。 It's not specifically a marketing book, and it actually pokes fun and speaks down to marketing occasionally in the book, yet it is often recommended in marketing forums and many of its examples are from marketing。 (Which makes sense, since marketing is inherently trying to make ideas stick。)The book creates a six-point checklist for your communication to see how "sticky" it is。 You may not always check them all, but getting them as close as possible will make your ideas more memorable and actionable to others。 The stories within are memorable (which is part of the checklist, coincidentally)。 Much of the checklist is comprised of fairly common marketing or storytelling advice, but this has a good organized structure to it and gets all that advice in one place。 。。。more

Entertaining book and nice approach with the creative principles of SUCCESs as an acronym of Simple, Unexpected, Concrete, Credible, Emotional and Stories。 Could be a shorter book without a lot of repetitive stories inside every chapter。

The authors give concrete instructions that anybody can apply to increment the "stickiness" of their messages/ideas。 This is, to make them more memorable, that people understand them effectively and remember them for longer。 I can say this is one of the best 5 non-fiction books I have read and highly recommend it。 The authors give concrete instructions that anybody can apply to increment the "stickiness" of their messages/ideas。 This is, to make them more memorable, that people understand them effectively and remember them for longer。 I can say this is one of the best 5 non-fiction books I have read and highly recommend it。 。。。more
