I read this book out loud to a group of first graders in a book-club setting。 We read a few chapters every day and talked about what happened and made predictions。 Students loved the images on each page and had fun trying to figure out what Worm's powers would be and what would happen to Drake next。It has all the pieces to set up a potentially long chapter book series， but the fantasy elements were not loved by each student。 Fortunately there was some interpersonal drama amongst the main charact I read this book out loud to a group of first graders in a book-club setting。 We read a few chapters every day and talked about what happened and made predictions。 Students loved the images on each page and had fun trying to figure out what Worm's powers would be and what would happen to Drake next。It has all the pieces to set up a potentially long chapter book series， but the fantasy elements were not loved by each student。 Fortunately there was some interpersonal drama amongst the main characters （who are close in age to the first graders） and the tension of whether or not Drake would tell his mom about the dragons was interesting for those that may not have been into the fantasy parts。Personally this one isn't for me， but I probably would have loved it as a young reader！ I think the reason I wasn't feeling it is the fish-out-of-water and new magical powers/"chosen one" narrative has been done to death and as a chapter book for young-ish readers this doesn't do anything particularly groundbreaking or new。 But as an introduction to the genre or a way to transition young readers from fantasy movies and video games to books， this could work really well。 。。。more

Perfect for grade 2。 Mine loved it。 Adventures and dragons。 The main character Drake connects well with his dragon， Worm。 And he makes friends。My kid loved the story and illustrations。 Short chapters with simple sentences。 Very exciting for him。 Good comprehension questions at the end。Another great read from the Branches collection。

If you want your kids to read an out and out fantasy series then look no further then the Dragon Master series from Scholastic Inc。 Parents who are Harry Potter fans but would like to hold on to get that series for their young kids， yet would want them to experience the same level of thrill then Dragon Masters is a perfect book that can introduce them to the world of dragons and wizards。We came across this series on Goodreads and once we read the first book we were not able to stop ourselves rea If you want your kids to read an out and out fantasy series then look no further then the Dragon Master series from Scholastic Inc。 Parents who are Harry Potter fans but would like to hold on to get that series for their young kids， yet would want them to experience the same level of thrill then Dragon Masters is a perfect book that can introduce them to the world of dragons and wizards。We came across this series on Goodreads and once we read the first book we were not able to stop ourselves reading the others。 The first book in the series starts with Drake， a young boy of 8 being taken from his farm to King Roland’s castle for some important task。 Once there， he is made aware that he has been chosen as a Dragon Master and his role would be to train an assigned dragon。 He also finds out that he is not the only one and that 3 more kids; Ana， Rori and Bo are already training their dragons under the tutelage of a wizard called Griffith。 From here starts Drake and the others’ adventure with the dragons。Each book introduces us to a new problem faced by these brave group of dragon masters and most of the times we are introduced to a new dragon too。 There are troubles in the from of bad wizards trying to steal the dragons， dragons getting weak in power， new dragons being found etc。The books are written in simple language and though set in a fantasy world do not have many difficult words or spells for younger kids to get confused。 The storyline is very engrossing and keeps the readers wanting to finish the books in one go。 As we adults call it; they are unputdownable， so much so that after every book ended， I would be more interested to know what’s happening in the next one。 It is therefore a good book to handover when parents need some peace in their lives and still want to let kids have fun😜。There are 17 books in the series as of now and 3 more books are already in the pipeline to be published in 2021 （Yay！）。 We have however read 10 books till now and enjoyed each one of them enough for us to recommend this series。These books are not standalone reads as each book ends on a cliffhanger and the next starts with some backstory from the previous book， though the first chapter generally summarizes what’s happened till now it’s always better to read the book in entirety to enjoy the next story。The book though shows Drake as the main protagonist， the others too have an equal coverage in the story and the the book works more like a team escapade than an individual adventure。These books are 90 pages long and have black and white illustrations on each page。 The illustrations are apt to help the reader connect with the story。 These books have been designed by Scholastic as a chapter book series for early – readers， basically kids who are transitioning to independent reading。 But I felt that it would suit intermediate readers better。 However， it is a great book nonetheless for beginner-readers as read-along with parents。 It will also make a good classroom read-aloud book， with all students taking up a role and at times playing out some scenes from the books。 To see for yourself and make an informed choice about this book head over to my Instagram page， where we will give you a sneak -peek inside the book。 Here is the link http://www。instagram。com/inbetweenboo。。。All the books have some 4-5 questions at the end of the book， which would enable retelling as well as some imagination on part of the kids to answer them and I think that is a great way to have discussion around the books。 That is another appeal of these books that attracted me as a parent。As far as learning is concerned， each book teaches us something but these stories are more to give wings to the imagination in our children and enjoy a good story with adventure。 However， it does give a lesson that it’s the inner qualities of an individual that matters rather than having magical capabilities， to train a dragon。 （or to overcome any challenges）Verdict:Overall， a great series for kids to hop on the reading journey and go to lands unknown and have their imaginations soar。 。。。more

3。5 I enjoyed the first book and can see it being very appealing for the age range it was written for。 It definitely left me wanting to read the next one。 You want to discover the mystery of where the dragons came from and what they are doing in this kingdom。 The illustrations are well done and nearly every page has an illustration。 I wanted a bit more depth and character development。 Hopefully that comes more in the other books。 The idea of each dragon having an element was cool。
