We loved this one in the whole wide universe and all the seasons。

This book was different because it was all about New York but never really stated that。 I think it would be a good book to read to children who probably haven't experienced some place other than the town they live in。 It talks about all the different things Maisy and her friends did in the city。 It was cool because they talked about the busy streets, the subway and how it was night time but the city was still lit up pretty well。 This book was different because it was all about New York but never really stated that。 I think it would be a good book to read to children who probably haven't experienced some place other than the town they live in。 It talks about all the different things Maisy and her friends did in the city。 It was cool because they talked about the busy streets, the subway and how it was night time but the city was still lit up pretty well。 。。。more

Title: Maisy Goes to the City Author: Lucy CousinsGenre: Predictable BookTheme(s): Travel, City, FriendsOpening line/sentence: Today, Maisy and Charley are visiting their friend Dotty in the city。Brief Book Summary: Maisy and her friend Charley go to the city to visit their friend Dotty。 In the city, the three of them do various activities like going shopping, eating at a café, and playing at the park。 At the end of the night, they all take a subway to Dotty’s apartment where they watch the busy Title: Maisy Goes to the City Author: Lucy CousinsGenre: Predictable BookTheme(s): Travel, City, FriendsOpening line/sentence: Today, Maisy and Charley are visiting their friend Dotty in the city。Brief Book Summary: Maisy and her friend Charley go to the city to visit their friend Dotty。 In the city, the three of them do various activities like going shopping, eating at a café, and playing at the park。 At the end of the night, they all take a subway to Dotty’s apartment where they watch the busy city and its bright lights。Professional Recommendation/Review #1: Publishers Weeklyhttps://www。barnesandnoble。com/w/mais。。。“Cousins's familiarly sturdy gouache scenes, rendered in bright primary colors, pair with simple sentences in a playful font。 As ever, Cousins paints a vibrant, tangible, and inviting world for preschool-aged readers。”Professional Recommendation/Review #2: Sarah Maury SwanChildren’s Literaturehttps://www。barnesandnoble。com/w/mais。。。“They learn how to cross a street safely and that there are many stores to shop in, with elevators and escalators。 Maisy gets lost in the toy store, but the salesperson helps her find her friends。 When you're young, going to new places can be scary and confusing, but this book will help ease fears and give pre-schoolers confidence to try new things。”Response to Two Professional Reviews: I like that Publishers Weekly’s commented on the book’s vibrant colors and playful font, as those were the first two things I noticed when I opened up the book。 However, the second review by Swan seemed more considerate of the child’s perspective。 You can tell by the way she analyzed the book’s plot, like saying “When you’re, young, going to new places can be scary and confusing,” really shows us that she reviewed this book carefully by putting herself in the child’s shoes。Evaluation of Literary Elements:The book is very organized in the way that everything is sequential, so it should be on the easier side of books for kids to follow。 The narration is very expressive as well, shown by the many uses of exclamation points, and it may enhance the excitement in children。 Lastly, I think the font that they chose is very playful and different from typical book fonts, which I thought was a great way to keep the book unique and fun。Consideration of Instructional Application:I think I would use this book for a unit on the different developed human settlements。 I may introduce the unit by reading this book to explore what a typical city, an urban settlement, is like and what activities it has to offer。 Then, I would read books that show suburban, rural, and exurban settlements as well。 At the end, I would have my students compare and contrast the different types of human settlements from what they have gathered from the books。 。。。more

This was a perfect book for now mummy said as we are just about to move from a tiny town to a big city。 The pictures were great and I enjoyed finding different things on them and talking about them with mummy。 A lovely simple story and Maisy gives Dotty a present at the end which mummy said is a very nice thing to do to say thank you to someone。(2yrs 5 mths)

We enjoy all the Maisy books and this one is good too。 My three star review comes because the pictures in this one are so, so busy。 I guess though this is an accurate presentation of a big city。

This was a nightly read for a couple of weeks for Natalie。 We enjoyed pretending to eat the food and talking about our favorite toys。 A great book for Maisy fans, but also for some background knowledge before a trip to the city or a story unit on the city。

Samantha

A cute story in which Maisy and Charley go to the city to meet up with and spend the day with their friend Dotty。 Super fun! =)
